Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies comes to Android, Nintendo shows off Ultra Street Fighter II, fans speedran Breath of Fire and more!

UPDATE: Slight updates to the streaming schedule.

[PAST]

This week we had some last minute schedule shuffling to do, but it was all worth it to see Frank West’s Quickstep shuffling. Check that out in our Dead Rising stream archive below. But on the topic of live streaming, please visit the Community Highlights section below as Patrick will give you the “run down” on some awesome Breath of Fire fan speedrunning that went down over the weekend.

Resident Evil 4

Dead Rising

[PRESENT] [NOW PAST TOO]

On this day, eight years ago, Bionic Commando was released on PS3 and X360. Yep, I’m talking about the dreadlocked, Mike Patton-voiced, fully 3D sequel to the beloved NES game of the same name. In honor of the occasion, we’ll be stepping into Nathan “Rad” Spencer’s metal boots today at 4 pm (Pacific). Catch the swinging and shooting action over at Twitch.tv/CapcomUnity.

UPDATE: The stream is now over, and it was a total blast. Catch the recording here .

[FUTURE]

All times listed are Pacific Time:

  • Tuesday , May 23rd @ 3PM Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
  • Wednesday , May 24th @ 2 PM Dead Rising
  • Thursday , May 25th @ 3 PM Resident Evil Code: Veronica X

Remember: hit up that “Follow” button on our Twitch channel to stay super up to date. It’s especially useful if we have any schedule changes. ^^;

Kellen Haney: TAKE THAT, Android users! Sorry, I’m not talking about that other recent game about androids, but I am talking about Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, which is coming to Android soon! While Ace Attorney has traditionally made its home on portable platforms, it’s now easier than ever to immerse yourself in the courtroom antics of the Ace Attorney series.

For those who aren’t familiar with this entry in the storied series, it starts out with a very literal bang, devastating a court room during “the Dark Age of the Law.” Not all hope is lost, though; seeking out the truth, series veteran Phoenix Wright is joined by rookie attorney Apollo Justice and the newest member of the Wright Anything Agency, Athena Cykes. Athena has been hired on for her incredible specialist skills in analytical psychology and her ability to uncover the source of one’s intense emotions.

No matter if you’re a fan looking to play again or just beginning to dip your toes into the series, pre-register here to get in on the courtroom action as soon as it’s available!

At the tail-end of last week, our friends over at Nintendo shared a special hands-on video of Ultra Street Fighter II as part of their Nintendo Minute series. They played some 2 vs. 1 co-op battles, created some fun Nintendo-inspired color schemes with the Color Edit mode, and, of course, duked it out in classic 1v1 fights in both retro and modern graphic modes. As a reminder, Ultra Street Fighter II for Nintendo Switch releases next Friday, May 26.

Patrick Kulikowski: Ahoy there, Breath of Fire fans! I wanted to give jazz hands to the folks at RPG Limit Break 2017 for featuring Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter in their speedrunning activities this week!

RPG Limit Break is an annual speedrunning charity event broadcast on Twitch from Salt Lake City, Utah. The RPG runners of this week-long event have been raising money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), which represents families and people affected by mental disorders in the United States. At the time of this writing, they’ve already raised over $87,000! Incredible!

On the night of Tuesday, May 16th, runner DavidK519  ran through and completed Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter in just 1:09:57 with a D-Ratio of 99.98% (Note: Hitting 100% before the game finishes = instant game over)! Odjn would be pleased.

The strategies employed in this run were expertly pulled off. His crafty use of baits and bombs to soften enemies up prior to battle was a lot of fun to watch. The most satisfying strats for me, however, were his perfect setups for Ryu’s Dragon D-Dive, which allowed him to demolish entire groups of enemies and end battles with a single D-Breath attack. You can see the setup and execution of this at the 15:52 mark. It’s a lot harder to pull off than you’d think!
