Write to Certain Affinity

I have just fired an e-mail off to Certain Affinity (the devs), at info@certainaffinity.com asking them to please come to the forums and comment on the situation.

There's nothing I hate more than being ignored, when there CLEARLY is a problem with a product, so, here's hoping that that will get some sort of response in here, even one that just acknowledges the problem at hand, and that they are looking into it.

Furthermore, I have written Steam support (where I purchased the game), regarding a refund.

While this game is moderately fun in single-player, the only reason I bought it was for multiplayer (which is also the number one feature that they market it on), and, multiplayer, as many can attest to, simply does not work, so the product must be considered broken.

I'll let you know when and if something happens in both cases.

Hehe, well, it couldn't get much worse than it is, thats for sure.

I wonder if the QA department have been testing on LAN only.

And, I have yet to receive a response from Certain Affinity.

Hello folks!

My name is Dave Jones and I am with Certain Affinity and we are aware of the issues some of you are experiencing. We are currently working on a fix to be patched out. I do not currently have an ETA, but I assure you that it is coming.

I do need some help tracking down the crash issues that are being reported on launch. If you have experienced these issues on launch, please post and let me know the details.

I should be around the forums several times this weekend and next week. I would love to hear likes, dislikes, complaints, and loves of Age of Booty.

I should clarify that right now I am specifically needing help in tracking down issues seen with the PC version.

I apologise for hijacking the thread but I am hoping for some official word regarding the multiplayer status for the PS3. Is there going to be future patch to address the issues?

I haven't been able to play mp at all since I bought the game. I sent an email to CA already so hopefully someone here or there will respond? Thanks!

hi,

thanks for showing up so i'll take the opportunity and go for it (from high prio to low)

-) register AoB key with steam so it won't show up and one doesn't have to enter it each and every time (probably remove securom while you're at it and embrace steam's functionality)

-) multiplayer issues (I've only tried it once so others for sure have more details about it)

-) entering the credits freezes the game

-) ability to play custom maps locally (as challenge for example)

-) joypad input

-) I can set the screen resolution only to 1024x768 max (desktop res is 1650x1080, and the options menu shows also 1120x720 and 1152x720 but both grayed out, always.
a higher resolution would be nice

-) splitscreen

-) menu-option to restart a challenge instead of needing to quit and start

-) ability to build new maps offline!

ps.: I have posted it above already but just to make sure you're aware of it (because I don't think that's intentional: the steam pc version is shipped with a .pdb file and (it seems) full xbox360 source code)

don't get me wrong, i like the game and think it's great fun it's just that... without those bumps it would even shine :)

that's it so far
cheers,

I really appreciate the detailed posts! below I have some replies, info, and answers:

PS3 multiplayer Issues - I don't know any details on this but I will add this to my list for investigation.

"register AoB key with steam so it won't show up and one doesn't have to enter it each and every time (probably remove securom while you're at it and embrace steam's functionality)"

Hmm... I was unaware of the need to enter your key each time you play, we will look into this.

"ps.: I have posted it above already but just to make sure you're aware of it (because I don't think that's intentional: the steam pc version is shipped with a .pdb file and (it seems) full xbox360 source code)"

We will look into this as well

"multiplayer issues (I've only tried it once so others for sure have more details about it)"

"entering the credits freezes the game"

These 2 issues are currently being worked on and we hope to patch soon.

"ability to play custom maps locally (as challenge for example)"

Anytime you want to play your custom maps locally you can start a LAN game. You will have full options control just like a custom online game.

"I can set the screen resolution only to 1024x768 max (desktop res is 1650x1080, and the options menu shows also 1120x720 and 1152x720 but both grayed out, always. a higher resolution would be nice"

If your video card does not natively support a resolution the Age of Booty client will not make it available to you. There are ways around this (adding custom resolution support to your card) depending on your particular video card, but keep in mind any monkeying you do with your video card can introduce instability.

Notice that my video card does not support these 2 resolutions either and therefore those options will be greyed out for me as well.

"joypad input

splitscreen

menu-option to restart a challenge instead of needing to quit and start

ability to build new maps offline!"

Right now there are not any plans to add these features to Age of Booty.

Hi,

thanks for the answer, though i have some comments :)

"register AoB key with steam so it won't show up and one doesn't have to enter it each and every time (probably remove securom while you're at it and embrace steam's functionality)"

Hmm... I was unaware of the need to enter your key each time you play, we will look into this.

I also wanted to stress the 'embrace steam' point, which would allow one to play the game on any PC where steam is available and the player logs into his/her account. (no securom hassle and installations everywhere, why not use (steam) what's already there.. although i know that game-devs immediately think of illegal things when a player only mentions the word securom)

"ability to play custom maps locally (as challenge for example)"

Anytime you want to play your custom maps locally you can start a LAN game. You will have full options control just like a custom online game.

yes but i still need internet access to log into that gamespy thing (which isn't all that cool for a LAN party either where probably no i-net connection is available. LAN... in my opinion should be LocalAN

"joypad input

splitscreen

menu-option to restart a challenge instead of needing to quit and start

ability to build new maps offline!"

Right now there are not any plans to add these features to Age of Booty.

well then, may i quote the AoB homepage?

-) Up to 4 players split screen, up to 8 networked
-) Easy and intuitive console controls (granted PC's not a console, but you have the code for the xbox anyway and transferring the xbox joypad code to windows is not much if any rewriting work at all)
- Play alone, splitscreen, or with friends on a local network or online (i would expect that this means either local OR online, but not that you have to connect to gamespy just to play on your LAN.

So I just wanted to say, it's not a ton of totally new awesome feature (except for the build maps offline) that i requested, but only what was promised on the game's homepage... And i couldn't find the "oh but you won't get that on PC" note

don't get me wrong i like the game and think it's great fun.
it's just that without those few bumps, it would shine brightly :)

PS3 multiplayer Issues DETAIL:  The online matching system is a complete disaster.

Nothing like dozens of games with 3 of 4 or 7 of 8 all waiting for that last player....

Here is my situation.  I'll finally find a game that fills up and the game starts, but before I can make any moves, I am back at the lobby with a message that the host is no longer avail, or something like that.

Funny thing is, before I PAID $10 for the "full" version, I could get into demo online games and everything worked fine, and the only problem was quitting the game because of the 3 game limit.  I should have just dealt with that inconvenience because it was a hell of a lot better than not being able to play online at all.

Sure am glad I plunked down those Doubloons on your early beta product.

I'm experienceing the same issues detailed by panisula above.

I played the demo with only minor issues, but the full version is full of (online) problems.

- It takes several minutes to get set-up in a game (in any game type, QM or otherwise)

- When I finally get a game, the instant the game starts> "lost connection to host" message> [back to main menu].

David- thanks for showing the someone (on the PC side, at least) is listening, but who can the rest of us PS3 users talk to.  It is very discouraging to have purchased an online game that can't be played online.
