Lockups on PS3

Hi all,

I guess that the reason as to why so few have complained is that the process of registering on either this or that other forum (the non-xbox one) just to complain on a single issue never to log on again is not that rewarding. You just continue to play and hope that it won't freeze again. Look: the game is seriously broken. I've had multiple freezes. In some instances the game either quit or shut the console down, I don't remember which. The Multiplayer is nonexistant: I play other games frequently and I have no issues at all with them - neither with finding games nor high ping. Here it's just empty lobbies: I've yet to see a glimpse of another player in the lobby.

Today I read on www.ps3fanboy.com that the game supposedly has added trophies, and on Age of Booty's homepage they stated yesterday that there is a new playlist in multiplayer with 3 vs 3 battles.

Why can't I find this update? Why are there no trophies for the game? Why is 3 vs 3 players not an option when touted as a new feature, although this would give me little comfort in my empty lobbies.

I like the game. But it is broken and I tire of being a charity troubleshooter. FIX IT ALREADY!

I also read there was a trophy patch and hoped that some bug fixes had been slipped in to get rid of these annoying crashes. But when I launch the game there is no update available. Weird I though, so I checked the PSN page for AoB (Aus PSN) and you can't even buy the game anymore. There is a game listing, but it has no content inside. Pity there is no way to get a refund, which in Australia is illegal.

I had the same issue like most of you guys, and I solved it by NOT going online with a router.
I have the same issue on Superosnic rocked powered battle cars.

Maybe that will solve your issues too?

Maybe, but I am not going to drag my PS3 over the other side of the house, buy a modem and then connect directly just to play AoB. Wireless FTW.

Hi,  I just signed up to post that I cannot complete the last of the medium challenges as my machine is constantly locking up in AoB.  It's been happening more and more as the levels get more complex.

Ok, so Daryl just posted on the front page that we had NOT ONE, but TWO builds of Age of Booty leak into the public.   His post is here: http://www.capcom-unity.com/d.a.r.y.l./blog/2008/12/09/age_of_booty_psn_patch_coming_trial_and_trophies_to_follow

Now this is a problem, but a fixable one.  Easiest fix for anyone experiencing problems out there is to Delete the SCEA version they are playing now, and redownload from the Store.

Specifically, if you are in Europe using SCEE (Sony Europe PlayStation Network) then any Trial downloaded from that region is an unfinished (leaked) Trial/Demo.  It is a bad version.  It will not work well.  If you have purchased the full game by downloading the Trial/Demo and buying a key to convert it, you will still have a bad build.  The only way to avoid this problem is to delete your build and re-download the full version from the Sony Store.  There is a Download icon inside the Store next to the Shopping Cart, so hopefully this isn't too difficult to find.  [update: We confirmed there is no "work around" to fix the SCEE Trial by deleteing it.  A Patch will be published shortly; we are expediting it. ~tim, 12/10/08]

If you purchased the SCEA version (Sony America from PlayStation Network Store) on or around Dec. 4th or 5th, you might have gotten a build with some of our experimental Trophy support in it.  Again, this is a leaked unfinished build.  While you can see some trophies, you will instead have problems match making. The best way to fix this is to delete this build and redownload the full version from the Store.  It won't have trophies because we are not done doing our trophy integration work.  Please be patient on that front.

We admit this is pretty weak sauce.  We don't like having half-baked builds of our games escape our QA process, and then infect the public with a Zoo of bugs.  But it has happened somehow, and everyone is pretty surprised.  Unfortunately i cannot share the gory details beyond the classic "Please be patient, we are working on the problem."

Regardless, the universal solution to most of these problems is to Delete the game and redownload from the Sony Store.  Again, this applies to SCEA Full Games purchased around Dec. 4th, and any SCEE Trial versions that have been converted to full games.

Moving forward, we have a legit (and QA'd) full game update (i.e., Patch) we are putting out quickly to get everyone back on the same version.  It will be a couple days.  Spread the word if you like, but until we get that patch it is not possible to tell what the TRUE problems are since people are all match making online with different versions of the game.  If you could imagine Sony America, Europe, and Asia each having different versions trying to play with eachother, with code pointing to different places, and some builds thinking they can do things - while other version have no idea what the other player is refering to - then you can guess this going to cause some problems.

Again, in the short term the best fix is delete the SCEA (north american) old game and download the full game again from the Store.  (You don't have to worry about Saves; leave them alone). [There is no fix for the SCEE Trial until a patch is available.  We are working on this now.]

Lastly, we are working hard on getting the Trophy Patch completed.  It will roll up all bug fixes for the remaining issues that may be causing problems on AoB.  It will have Trophy support working.

If anyone else has problems beyond what i have described, feel free to message me directly, or contact Customer Support.

Cheers Tim. Only thing is, the last time I checked (this morning) there was no longer available for download through PSN (I'm in Australia). If I go to my downloads and get from there, will this be the latest non-leaked version?

Hi Tim,

I just reloaded the game from the german PS store and it still freezes.

For example in the 1st campaign on the hardest level. It always froze when I had about 0:56 seconds left, and the problem remains after deleting/redownloading/install the game.

I am wondering if there is still the old messed up version in the german store because nothing has changed (besides that the game was completely removed from the store for new customers).

Ok, so a couple more points.

It really will help me if people will tell me some specifics.  I will make a blog post about this, but since not all PS3 builds are deployed the same, i need to know the following.  When you post, please include this information:

  1. When your bought the game (if you can't remember specific, ballpark the month).
  2. Where are you playing from?   North America is SCEA.  Europe is SCEE.  Asia is another territory.  HINT:  If you DO NOT see an ESRB notice on boot up you are NOT using the SCEA  (north american) version.
  3. Did you download a Trial version?

Bonus Questions:

  1. What kind of internet connection and network are you using?   Indicate Router/Gateway device (name and model is helpful), and if you are running any firewall's or have the PS3 in a DMZ.
  2. Answer the above to the best of your ability.  if you have no idea, still ask us for help.  We will try.
