    Dear Capcom

    Friday, April 24, 2009, 04:04 PM [General]

(My first time ever writing any kind of request/review, so be easy on me)

I remember when I picked up my first console...it was a Sega Genesis...I really didn't know what I had in my hands at the time...I played all sorts of games from the classic Sonic games to Sim Theme Park, from goold ole' Lemmings to that seemingly impossible Jurassic Park(at least it was hard for me). Street Fighter brought hours of fun, The Lion King as well.  I liked this whole experience, to say the least. But it was not a love yet...I played video games because I was a young boy who liked to blow up things in a video game. It was just a mere satisfaction, a relieving for my desire to, well, simply be a boy.

However, one day, I went over to my friend's house to play this older nintendo system. Yes, Nintendo had been out for a while...but I had no idea what it was...anyways...he showed me a game called Megaman. I was never the same. I know it sounds crazy to talk like this over just a video game, but there is a reason why I am in love with video games now. Megaman won my heart. And through that, so did video games in general.

I went through a transition of having all the Sonic games (even pinball and mean bean machine, and that weird adapter game that you could add to every game and it would play this sonic-ball-rolling game differently everytime.) to getting into Megaman.

I'm going to skip a stage in my life, I loved the Megaman Series and still do, however, there is one particular Megaman Saga that captured my attention. When Sony came out with the first Playstation, I received word from a friend about a Megaman Legends. I thought, well I'm getting that one. When I got it I played it. Just the beginning...In a world covered by endless water...captured my gaze and ears. It reminds me of Star Trek. I loved the old series, but I became fond of Voyager and TGN. Their stories seemed deeper to me(the series, not the movies mind you). This is the same way with Megaman Legends. The old series has a special place in my heart and I do like the Battle Network games and the X generation, all of it. But what changed the way I played and the way I viewed video games was playing Legends. Sure, the camera angles where a little wacked at time and the graphics were...uh...3D? but the story captivated me...I felt like I was Megaman. I felt like I was doing something in the game and not just going through mazes like in the other games. Again this is my opinion. I am glad that they continue to make Megaman through other versions...but I really stand for a whole lot of people here who were changed with one simple game...(I love the second one as well!) and desire for a continuation in this version of Megaman. I fell deep into the story, more than Final Fantasy, more than Dragon Quest, more than Pokemon, more than any other story I had encountered. It taught me that a story is just as important as the gameplay.

Capcom...I don't think you really realize how much you have made me a gamer through Legends...I don't know what kind of money issues you guys have or what plans you have for the future. Please don't put us aside. Every friend I showed this game to(at least 15), they loved it. I can still play the game today and enjoy it. I believe Megaman Legends 3 has the potential to make a comeback like Fallout 3 did (reviewed by many as one of the best RPG's of the year, if not the best game of the year)...The fallout series seemed almost long forgotten but Bethesda brought it back to life and created something beautiful. Now I am not a great writer by any means, nor do I try to be like one. I'm just trying to signal you a chance for a great game.  I believe, Capcom, you can bring many old Legend fans and create new ones through a 3rd installment. I believe, Capcom, that you can make Megaman more of a popular figure, the figure he deserves to be, through Legends.

I await the day when I will be in line to purchase my copy of Megaman Legends 3. If you don't want to make it or can't, I hope you give the rights to some other company so that at least this Megaman can continue on.

I would like to finish this blog with a quick story. One of my friends loved the history of Titanic. He thought it would be the most awesome movie ever. At the time he was very pleased with Disney's direction of Film-making and thought it would be cool to send them a letter asking if they would ever plan on making such a movie. After several weeks he got a packet in the mail with a brochure and letter. The brochure contained a list of upcoming movies and the letter said something quite interesting, now that we see from this side of the timeline. It said something like this, "Dear Steven, we appreciate your film idea very much, however, we feel that a movie about the "Titanic" sinking would not be a profitable nor enjoyable movie." The letter continues on, but I hope you caught that Capcom(I don't even know if you would read this). Several years later, Titanic came out, beating the box office scores like no one's business. Do you really know what you have in your hands? Sure you are making some great games...but don't you see at least the slightest bit of potential a 3rd Legends has? There is a popular saying that goes like this, "You never know what you got, until it's gone." Don't let this chance go...

    Your committed gamer,

    Aaron
