Upgrades in the beginning

The way mutliplayer games start out is kind of annying. Especally when you're doing a 4v4 game with only 2 upgrades. It's kind of hard to strategize as it is with people not having a mic, and not knowing how to communicate with their team. Even if they did some people just don't communicate to begin with. So the upgrades kind of go to whoever can hit the button the fastest, and someone can hit it fast and get both. Granted I haven't played too many games (Hard to find them), so I'm not sure how much of a problem this is but it seemed to be when I played. There needs to be a better way of distributing this. Here's what I propose:

Spend (or distribute) upgrades before the game starts. Either in the lobby or in that moment you get before the game starts. This can be distributed randomly or assigned by players. Random means you have two upgrades ready to be assigned to a player. These are then given out randomly and the players have the option of upgrading their ship, giving it to another player, putting it back into the pool (Placed back to where anyone can spend it), or putting it back into the random generator where it's assigned to another player. Upgrades that aren't spent within 10 seconds of the game starting is put back to the team's pool. This would help out a lot where you get one guy who takes both upgrades and it kind of leaves the rest of the team in the dust. Not that one player with 2 upgrades isn't a strategy a team could do, but that's what the giving away upgrade part is about.

Thoughts?

Well, as long as there's a team chat function enabled, should eliminate this problem.

yeah but generally speaking on the pc side...no one uses it...text or voice...not just in this game but for a lot of games...on the console side even though everyone has a mic (or most do on the 360) it's very rare that you get any cooperation out of people...

I think having 5-10 seconds at the beginning of the match could be a good thing.  Could be time to plan and look at map.  There is often a couple seconds of lag when a game first starts as well.  I've seen it where I push a key to upgrade and it lags so I don't know if it takes.  I'm always afraid that if I hit the button again I'll wind up taking 2 upgrades right away.

At the start of a game a delay is enforced between upgrades so that one player can't steal them all. This helps distribute starting upgrades. This doesn't replace coordination, of course, but it should help a bit.
