I get so angry when people pirate video games, (or anything) people's hearts and soulsgo into the creation of those games, so I am also trying to figure a way to stop piracy, so here is what I think that should keep people from pirating, a three-ring rule should be placed on the console or pc game the following is:
Rule#1:When you buy a game, the game can only be played, when it is scanned by the register.
Rule#2:The game cannot be copied, because it should be made with a lockout, preventing you to copy it with any software.
Rule#3:When you try to copy this game with any software, or hack any data or numbers in the game so a backup copy can be made, it will make the disk become void, and your money will not be returned...
Please I want to perfect this idea, so if you got criticism let me hear it.
I have a kickass PC connected to my 65" 1080p TV in my living room. It'll destroy all of my consoles and ask for seconds in terms of performance. I know there are others out there like me that similarly enjoy that experience.
Yup, I'm one of 'em! Playing Lost Planet and DMC4 in 1920x1200 resolutions at ultra high settings is a blast!
PC's are also the closest thing we have to a convergence device at the moment. As well as next gen titles, I still play my Grim Fandango CD from time to time. You can't have that experience with a next gen console.
It is really a shame that sales are low, i would blame piracy but that is not only problem, you guys should advertise more games like this, i mean game is really good, optimization is one of the best i have seen on PC, game is beautiful and polished, but i didn't see any advertisement, and i spend a lot of time over the gaming dedicated sites and steam.Another problem is that game was already out sometime on consoles, but again i really believe that sales would have jumped if you advertise more...so if you plan to make another games for PC ADVERTISE! and get it on steam or somewhere where PC gamers are actually looking, popular sites, magazines etc. Good luck guys and i hope you wont ditch PC.
I downloaded the demo of DMC 4 for the PC (same as the XB360/PS3 version I see) while I can run this game in max res 1920x1200 with all the settings up on very high, it ran pretty impressive on my PC (DC2 E6850 with 8800ultra 4GB Ram).
The only grip about it I have is when I hook up my ps2 controller (with 3rd party adapter and I have 2 different ones) it works but no rumble.
Also the game does not send out Dolby Digital sounds through SPDIF out to my receiver (yes I know only few games that does that otherwise you have to get analogue adapter from creative or rca to 3.5mm adapters for each analogue input which I have btw hooked up to my Yamaha RX-V663 using X-Fi Platinum Edition and also tried Onbord) so unless the full version actually does Dolby Digital which I highly doubt it I have to skip out on the PC version after all and keep my PS3 version (ugg 720p blah). I know you can do multi channel sound from analouge hook up but if it's advertised as Dolby digital then by god it should be able to output that signal through optical cables.
My X-fi under Vista 32bit (yes with the updated drivers) is driving me crazy with its popping crackling sound (through analogue and no it's not the cable), why can't sound cards be universal standards like directx or opengl? Also you'd think with the current technology out there they would be able to do analogue to digital conversion on PC sound cards, sorry for the rant but after spending a lot of money for sound receiver/sound card/speakers/adapters and cables can get to you.
If anyone have the PC with similar setup, can you verify to see if your receiver picks up Dolby Digital through SPIDF out (Optical)
on the full version? I can somewhat live without rumble on the controller but I MUST have multi channel sound!
In FPS, I stopped shooting while jumping, for my crotch can't take the abuse anymore. Darn noobs with their auto aims... my precious it hurts us.
Didn't want to revive a week-old thread, but since that's already been done, I figured "why not". So:
I'm not sure about how Capcom in general feels but It's not doing as well as I would like in the US at retail. It's such a good version and it really deserves better sales. I know it's getting pirated to hell and back (it was up on torrents literally the day it shipped).
Isn't this a bit of a red herring? The US has the lowest software piracy rates in the world, and I don't see that being dramatically different if you only view video games. Consoles seem more popular over there than in Europe, and those versions were available half a year before the PC one. Buying online is infinitely more accessible in the US, so not accounting for those sales would be unwise. (Good luck trying to buy anything outside of the US or Western Europe. Just to illustrate: I went through about 40 online shops and while all of them shipped to the US, only one of them would ship here.) Accessibility could be less of a problem with digital distribution, but DMC4 isn't represented there, either. Furthermore, with the long-lasting draught of similar titles on the PC, you would expect people interested in such titles to have obtained a console by now, and likely already playing the game on that platform instead.
I would expect low sales in the first place, compared to the console versions. But if it's underselling even those expectations, you have a couple of mistakes outlined above that contribute to that, likely more so than piracy. And yeah, that's a shame, because it's a pretty good console port.
It'd be interesting to know how the game's selling in Europe, to paint a more complete picture.

interestingly enough, I recently switched from X-Fi for this very reason.
To answer your question, yes, the X-Fi and other current soundcards do support analogue to Dolby Digital conversion, it's called Dolby Digital Live. The X-Fi had Dolby Digital Live in XP, but it was disabled on it's Vista drivers by Creative due to licensing issues. The only way to get it working is by using a hacked driver, and even then it's a huge hassle as it doesn't always install correctly and on top of it the driver settings are lost after a restart.
That's why I switched to the Asus Xonar. When I play games I turn on Dolby Digital Live and enjoy Dolby Digital with DMC4 and other games.
What I don't understand is, why are Capcom PC titles released with the Dolby Digital logo when they are not encoded in AC3??

Thanks mashakos for the answer and yes I know about DD live and kinda pissed that X-fi lines from Creative didn't have them but the 3rd party that uses it does and bit teed off to buy a new sound card and feel uncertain on how it'll behave on Vista.
Your right about the XP on Xfi but it wasn't DD live, it was bitstream out option where a external decoder is needed (Mine passes there since it has better DAC and sound processor tee hee) to decode AAC/DTS/Dolby series. What they did in Vista is remove that option but I have a hacked sys file that enables them and it works (doesn't matter anyways since I dual boot).
In the end however I figured it out that DMC4 for the PC isn't encoded in AAC or Dolby at all most likely Directx or OpenAL/EAX instead just like what you thought.
