I really hope this question gets a good answer. There are rumors that Megaman Battle Network 5 Double Team DS was going to be a 3D remake of the original BN5. That never happened, but there is evidece against that. Textures prove the making of a 3D ACDC Town. I find it strange that it still says "Higsby's" and that the 7-11 is in Japaneses. But what's more baffling is the commercial buildings even being there.
Better yet, a small rendition of this map can still be seen.
So I'm asking Capcom, "What happened to this game and why was production quickly cancelled?"

That last one looks more like MML1... In any case man, games get cancelled for thousands of reasons. Budget dries up, someone quits, source code gets lost, no longer profitable for company, sub-prime meltdown causes loss of capital, etc. You could go on for days.

Twas before my time at Capcom so I don't know the answer. There is somethig you are presuming: that it was ever actually in production just because of the existence of a few assets. This could have been just exploratory R&D/preproduction with no budget associated or greenlight happening (it wouldn't shock me if that were the case). And for whatever reason (maybe from what was learned during pre-pro) that it wasn't put into full production. I don't know, just throwing out possible alternative explanations.

Some things did start to look like MML. I guess that just happens when 3D environemts are involved. But one more thing. I found these only after another person (on Wikipedia) claimed to have found them in Megaman Star Force back in 2007. They may have been reused way after they were not used. Hmm?

Isn't the team who made BN/SF the one who was originally behind Legends prior to that? That could account for it, too. --LBD "Nytetrayn"

Also, it may have been possible that this game would have had 3D battles. There is a 3D stage, too. The 3D model of Megaman used in the released game is also accompanied with these remnants. But closer inspection reveals that there are more unused emotions for the model. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g144/mega_rock_exe/ds_texturesRockman.png As seen in the above image, Megaman appears to open his mouth in different ways. Sadly, in the actual released game, his mouth never opens, he just blinks. Maybe it's a mistake but these may have also had a different use. But it does start to look more like MML. Megaman Star Force doens't do facial changes so that detail was dropped, I guess. But it doesn't add up. Diggin up an old screenshot of the game, a different 3D model is shown and with no evidence of 3D gameplay. http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/image/928331.html?gs=15 ...so what's the case here?

Bump. Please. I really want a good answer from Capcom on this one. It is too mysterious.

Bumping isn't going to get you a different answer than the one I've given. I'm afraid you'll have to be left in suspense.

This was found on Star Force right? They were probably just messing around with the 3D effects they could make and familiar environments. If this was EXE5 remake or EXE7 I highly doubt there would be a Honda store or a 7-11.
