I'm extremely happy that this news is reaching the masses. As a gamer and in-study game developer, I find the practice of releasing incomplete games and withholding finished modes from the final product a very worrying and disturbing business practices and I seriously hope that this trend is nipped in the bud before it gets any worse. Like the thousands of others, I see no reason why a mode that is standard in thousands of other games and is obviously complete could not be included in the retail version of the game. I see no reason why downloading a small code to read a few disc assets couldn't have been made free of charge. To charge some people $90 (minus tax and shipping) for a collector's edition of the game that still lacks this content I find to be unethical and misleading. People bring up Valve for a very good reason. You go to Valve's website, you look at their fans, and you won't find a happier group of people. They are fans that have passionate love and devotion to the company and their games. You know why? Because Valve treats their fans with respect and as part of their community, rather then just as customers with a little more cash to bleed from their wallets. I'm boycotting Resident Evil 5 and will probably buy a used copy on the resale market. I fully believe that RE5 is a worthwhile game worth every penny, but the intentional exclusion of content for the sole purpose of charging us for it is something I neither accept nor condone. This isn't about money, it's not about the quality of the mode, the quality of the original game; it's about the ethics and business practice of charging for something that has been accepted as a standard in the industry and the potential for other game developers to release incomplete games and charge customers for the missing content. If I buy Resident Evil 5, I get 95% of the game, and that 95% is fantastic... but that doesn't excuse the missing 5%. You wouldn't watch a movie 95% of the way through, enjoy it immensely, and then be forced to pay to see the additional 5% because, even though you've enjoyed every moment thus far, you expect a complete experience, not one that's been intentional censored. This isn't about money and it isn't about quality. It's about the principle of this decision, and I strongly disagree with the way it has been handled, and judging from the very strong reactions all across the internet, from Kotaku to IGN, the Resident Evil fan sites to the Capcom boards, I'm glad to see I'm not alone. We love your games, Capcom, we really do, but this Versus mode ordeal is the straw that broke the camel's back. The exploitation of fans in Mega Man 9 for missing modes and characters, the sealed costumes in Street Fighter IV, and now this. I believe it would be in the best interest of your company to fix this and just release the mode for free, if only to remedy the poor relationship and general sense of anger and digust that is permeating throughout the fanbase. Seriously, take a page from Valve and realize that we, the gamers, are your priority, not our dollars and cents. Until then, consider me another upset yet loyal fan who is regrettably passing on a game I know is fantastic. Trust me when I say that this sort of thing is VERY important to people and we, the fans, shouldn't be taken for granted. |

There's no big deal, like most of the previous posts, this is an ADDITION to the game, not exactly part of it as a whole. Resident Evil 5 already includes a lot of goodies inside the game and if one would take their time, it'll last for a long time. Think of it this way, the option to put pepperoni onto a pizza. The pizza is good as it is but if you would DESIRE the EXTRA topping, you are obliged to get it or not.

Lets look at this this way: I've got the car with the engine, brakes, tyres, Turbo charger.. Everything! Only problem is, The Turbo charger needs to be connected with a special cable to enable it to actually work and thats only available from the Manufacturer for an extra $100... WTF!! I own the Turbo charger lol Give me the cable man! It's the same thing with Resident Evil 5, It's got it all, It just has a certain thing that hasn't been enabled. |

Just so you know I signed up for the sole purpose of posting in this thread. Atm I'm loving playing Resident Evil 5. When I heard about the multiplayer being DLC I was srsly annoyed, it should have been included on the disk. I don't want to sound like a whiner but this is nothing more than shameful marketing tactics to try and make a quick buck. All this is doing is creating negative reputation for Capcom that it doesn't give a damn about it's fans. Don't you see something a little stupid about the situation where the representative is getting a load of negative comments and then tells the fans if you don't want to buy it, then don't buy it? I thought you wanted us to play your game? I mean all of us bought your game didn't we? we are your fan base and you aren't listening! screw the shareholders we are the ones giving you our money and we ARE NOT satisfied! You know I've got a job and I also sell things. I try to look after each individual customer and make sure they get a good customer expereince when they shop at the store I work in. Doesn't Capcom have a similar feeling? if you don't try and do well at what you do what's the point? If you just want to make money just make software apps because it's obvious Capcom and it's employees are not passionate about videogames.

Holy crap, that is a thing of beauty. I signed up on this site to say the same things, but never would have pulled it off so eloquently (or without diverging off into angry tirades). So, Capcom, apply everything above to another former fan. MM9's DLC was troubling, SFIV's was egregiously inappropriate, and now RE5's has pushed you right to the top of my list of game companies NOT to give another red cent to. And you know who else is on that list? NOBODY. That's right, I've been playing games since the Intellivision, and have never felt the need to boycott a company before. I really hope you clean up your act, and allow me to return to giving you money. |

This wouldn't bother me if the campaign were say a 15 to 25 hour experience mainly because I don't feel the controls are streamlined enough for multiplayer, but its not 15 to 25 hours it's a 10 hour experience. The reason this bothers me is because I would rather have an epic campaign than a lot of replay value via unlocking weapons and modes. It just doesn't seem to me like RE4/5's control scheme lends itself well to multiplayer: Pretty much everything requires 2 buttons. Hold A/X + stick to run, hold L1/left shoulder button + right trigger/R2 to use your knife, hold L2/Left Trigger and press A/X to reload etc. Why isn't your default move speed to run just by pressing the stick the direction you intend to travel, why can't I activate my knife just by pressing the left shoulfer button/L1 and why can't I reload simpy by pressing the right shoulder button or a face button? The complexity is horrible for twitch based multiplayer design. If it played like Gears I'd totally be down. The fact is I think if they had reinvented Resident Evil multiplayer would be far more viable so I just don't think this DLC will be worth it. However what does bother me about the retail product is because they didn't reinvent the series and they are putting out a clunky multiplayer what time and resources got wasted that could have made the campaign far more enjoyable? I'm not saying I even care about RE having Gears design mechanics, RE isn't Gears I don't need to be able to walk and shoot. No one can argue the point that the controls are overly complex though and the way the product is being handled is all kinds of bad. Atleast if they had opened up the level design and made the combat faster with less complex controls the prospect of multiplayer would at least be enticing. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm already mad about the retail version that this new direction Capcom is taking just makes me a little more angry than I was before. It's like SF Super Turbo Remix and Bionic Commando are about the only things handled right. I mean I'm feeling pretty burned right now about RE5 and the fact that Monster Hunter 3 for PS3 got canceled upset me, I mean if one $5 transaction gets you all of the multiplayer modes this isn't as bad but it's still pretty bad when multiplayer is sold separately when it's common practice that multiplayer is included in retail products. Personally I hope people are smart about this and don't buy it, it was stated that this DLC had it's own budget but I'm hoping it's a loss for Capcom so they don't continue to think they can get away with this. I don't want this to become a trend in gaming. Also I have been a fan of Capcom for a long time and I don't want that to change, I like having the knowledge that they are a reliable company that I can be satisfied with their products, my devotion has been shaken by this though. I now have to adopt a wait and see position, I really want the new Bionic Commando and I now suspect that they will charge a fee for multiplayer as well but I think multiplayer in it will be worth more than in RE5 in terms of playability but I'm not sure I'm willling to pay extra for it and I'm not sure the single player experience will be worth it. I feel like I'm coming off as idealistic and having a sense of what's fair but I really am struggling with this part of me is like get over it but the other part is saying don't let them get away with this and if I'm feeling split like this then I guess my concenr is that a lot of people will take the position of "get over it". I'm almost hoping the economy effects the DLC as well as people aren't willing to give up their money to pay extra for multiplayer. I guess I'm just feeling betrayed even though I'm not really entitled to feel that way and I am trying to justify it as "it's only $5" and that bothers me too. God the more I think about it the more upset I become, I'm gonna end this now and play something to take my mind off of it. |
