Secondly, whenever we do PDLC, that content exists with its own budgets, it's own profit and loss analaysis with its own forecasts. If it didn't, that extra content wouldn't have been put into production, because it did not fit within the production budget of the base product.

Ok.  For RE5's versus mode, I can buy this argument as long as I don't notice a 120/180kb unlock key when I attempt to buy the DLC.  Otherwise that's some MAJOR shenanigans right there.

I'm not sure I can buy this argument for the alternate costumes for SFIV, though...those were seemingly done well in advance and are very much already on the disc.  I purchased the CE of SFIV but did not download the Brawler Pack to make a point.  I will pay for DLC that adds value to the game that I want.  However, I will not pay for frivolous DLC or DLC already on the disc.  I believe it's stealing from consumers to sell us a game where features are deliberately locked away behind downloadable keys.

I've often wondered why no "cheat devices" (gameshark, etc.) have showed up for the next-gen consoles, I think I have my answer right there...people would be able to "steal" disc DLC that was already locked away on game discs.  Sometimes I almost wish a company would release something like this; it would keep publishers honest.  If you're going to have DLC available that was done previous to the game's release but not in the original budget, is it too much to ask to keep it off the disc?  There's a real feeling of being ripped off for downloading an unlock key as opposed to actual content.  I understand the "license" model as opposed to the "disc ownership" model, and I know corporations love it in the age of digital distribution.  The company I work for does it for business solutions all the time.  Doesn't mean I agree with it in the slightest.

That said, I do appreciate Capcom at least making the FEATURE-oriented DLC for SFIV free (at least the championship mode). I would also consider paying for extra characters or stages - I know those aren't in plan at the moment but I certainly would give those a look.

Oh and by the way, I'm not arguing the price (it's actually pretty cheap compared to other DLC), I'm arguing the principal

Yes, the principle, that's much less stupid. Just give us what's on the disc, we don't want anything extra!

RE5 is awesome, and I'll gladly take anything extra they put out for it.

Sorry, but how do you know this when the content isn't even released yet?

- We have unlockable context and expansion context. Yup, don't take my word as official, but I needn't to be a genious to figure it from patterns. Plus, what do you expect from a file shorter than 500k? An expansion pack or a unlock key? ;)

At least you dont have to pay $5 to get 5 costumes lol now thats right there is BS, plus sf4's online mode is so incomplete and flawed that I would gladly pat $5 for quarter match mode or something useful.

Watch, RE6 will cost $100 for a collectors edition, then when you get home and put it in you'll have to pay to authorize access on your system. Im sure that sounds nice and profitable too. I wont buy this based on principals. I want the game a I payed for. I love RE5 so far. Im on chapter 3-2 or something. Its fantastic, but I want the complete version.

I think it's utterly ridiculous that people that bought the game will have to pay EXTRA for a mode that should've been part of the game as an INCENTIVE to buy the game in the first place. Basically, it's a slap in the face to those that DID buy the game. This type of consumer maltreatment is going to come back and bite Capcom in the butt someday, and they deserve it.

It's really nice to know, though, that there's people who are refusing the buy the whole GAME because of shenanigans like this. I've read 3 or 4 posts in a short, short thread of people who are doing just this. And there's definitely more than that. Stick it to them, guys.

Am I the only one here that thinks you're all overreacting and/or being ungrateful?  It's not like other RE games had online (other than the two specifically made for online).  And I don't think RE5 needed online to sell, nor was it expected of it.  And it's not like this is a huge online mode with 32 player deathmatches or something.  It's 1-on-1, 2-on-2, or "see who can kill more zombies" it'll probably be $5 or something.  Don't eat lunch one day and buy it if it means that much to you.  Even without it you can play online co-op.

If capcom HAD released this as a part of the game you know reviewers just would've slammed the online for not being expansive enough or something and lowered the overall score of their reviews.  It seems to me the only reason they did this at al was BECAUSE they could do it as dlc.  RE5 doesn't need multiplayer by any means and doing it could backfire as easily as succeed, so there would be no benefit for capcom if it wasn't dlc.

No, you're not. In fact, this thread is so stupid  because Capcom already put the Mercenaries Mode in there, which makes a great extra that adds tons of replayability. The fact that they're offering MORE to the players by way of DLC is apparently offensive to morons.

You're in luck. It's not an unlock.
