Disc Locked Content isn't even an accurate description in this case, considering that it will be an actual download and not an unlock key.

A more appropriate term might be Additional Witheld Content.  Doesn't quite have the same ring to it (and may or may not be true).

Well, they did the same with SFIV and the costumes. Anyways, I feel there is a better way to tell Capcom that you don't like it than complaining on a board. Don't buy the "DLC". Don't even build up a multiplayer community for RE5 and let it remain flaccid and dead. Then, and maybe then, Capcom would realize that the Namco Bandai way of doing business won't fly with its consumers.

I have no idea that anyone brought up the point I am about to make, but I certainly home "SVEN" takes note. I will not buy Resident Evil 5 until they decide to release the versus mode free of charge. I think what Capcom has started is alarming. This began with the DLC of new costumes for Street Fighter IV. Granted, it is an excellent strategy to make more money, but I do not believe that these costumes add any sort of replayability... at all! Moving onto RE5, it is quite unfortunate that Capcom has decided to charge more moeny for content that was done before the game released. Everyone who has asked why it was not included if i was already done bring up VALID POINTS... I certainly believe that the game @ $60 is worth the money. However, the Versus mode is NOT worth the EXTRA money... I paid $60 for Halo 3, COD 4, COD WaW, Gears of War 2... those are 4 of the top 5 Xbox Live games... and they ALL came with various online modes packaged already. I have no problems paying extra money for new levels... They ADD replayability... Charging for a versus mode is preposterous. There is no telling how long a life a RE5 versus mode has... but it certainly wont be compared to the aforementioned games. My biggest gripe is that I pay $49.99 a year for the priveledge of playing games online... It's called Xbox Live... So Capcom is basically selling this priveledge... They are basically saying... if you spend $60 youcan have HALF of the online playing priveledge with playing with ONE friend... to have the priveledge of playing against people... well, you have to pay more money... you don't get anything new except a new mode... Hell, I'd totally be on Capcom's side if they were charging $5 for Versus mode and a few maps... That is a bit more feasible... However Capcom is showing no remorse towards their LOYAlL CONSUMERS. They are basically giving a big middle finger to everyone who has loyally bought and beaten every resident evil game that has come out. In essence they are saying, it's not enough that you purchased, played, and beaten all of our resident evil games, but we want you to not only buy our newest game, but we also want you to pay another five dollars for a new mode that was completed before the game came out, but for whatever reason we decided to hold back on releasing it with the game so that we can charge you some more money... so you can ENJOY our game more... Capcom wants us to PAY to enjoy the game more... It doesn't matter to them that their goal should automatically be to PLEASE their fan base and release the most enjoyable game they can... no... they want us to pay for the game... and then if we dont want it to collect dust, then well, we need to pay 5 more dollars... Their strategy is unjustified in my opinion. Like I said, the mode doesn't necessarily add replayability... If you buy the mode... and you hate it... well your screwed out of money... because there are no new levels, campaigns, etc to make you want to go back and at least keep playing the story... However, I will end my rant... and again point out that we Xbox live users already pay for the right to play games online... The reasons that you dont hear of companies charing for such modes is because they know we already pay in the form of xbox live... THese companies want to be the best on xbox live without nickle and diming us... giving us a reason to care about their next releases... this strategy by capcom makes me not want to buy the game at all and not care what future releases they have... next thing you know capcom will come out with a residen evil with one character... for $60... and then charge you for each level u want to play... Its ridiculous and outlandish... Trying to justify charging for a versus mode is ludicrous... if all games that have versus modes include it already, then capcom should've been no different, but they are being outed as the greedy company they are...  I wont even get into the fact that Japan is getting charged less for this DLC while USA is getting shafted for a few extra dollars...

I see where youre coming from. I just found out japan gets it cheaper too thats a little bogus. At first after 'sven' explained, I was okay with the idea, but not anymore. Ive played the game, its great and worth the money, but youre right the vs mode is not worth the EXTRA money. I feel like devs forget that their fans are responsible for a games success. RE5 would not have sold 4 million copies already had it not been for the installed fanbase. Gamers are the reason games do well. Anyone can spend years making a game but if no one likes it- it flops.

If it's not an unlock, then why are the Versus trophies on the PS3 version visible until you sync the console online, which hides them?

You people are forgetting about the extra costume packs for Street Fighter IV. Those costumes are available on the arcade version, why take them out of the console version then?

We know this is all corporate b.s. and it's all about making money, but at least have the f*ing decency of not lying to your consumers.

This is the part where I get to say "BS". RE5 is well worth every penny of $60. A huge game, with tons of replay value, loads of unlockables, new weapons, co-op, mercenaries mode, etc. If any game warrants its price point, it's RE5.

Prior to the announcement of the Versus mode, no one complained they weren't getting their money's worth with the initial release because it packs TONS of value because it is an amazing game. So if people were already satisfied with what the package had, when we offer MORE, why is it people feel they've been somehow cheated? If you don't find value in our secondary offerings, the choice is simple, don't purchase it. If you do find it valueable (and we hope you do) please do but it and enjoy it.

Secondly, whenever we do PDLC, that content exists with its own budgets, it's own profit and loss analaysis with its own forecasts. If it didn't, that extra content wouldn't have been put into production, because it did not fit within the production budget of the base product.

The content that is shipping in the full game exists within its own budget. The content shipping afterward (regardless of how close to release it is... because the goal IS to have it release relatively closely to the base product's release) exists within its own budget. To try and have it release in a timeframe that is relatively close to the initial release, development starts well before the base product is on the shelves. There's no other way to keep it within 3 to 6 weeks of the initial release (which is the goal).

That's a pretty good answer Sven, but my point still stands, Versus modes and the like are basic modes included in nearly all games on release, I can't think of any game as I type this that held back a basic mode and then sold it on afterwards.

You are right when you say Resident Evil 5 is value for money, it's a class game and I'm not arguing that point, but there has been a worrying trend developing since the advent of downloadable content that Capcom is now adding to. You are also right when you say we have a choice and we don't have to buy the "extra content", it's easy to unload these answers onto the fans but that's not going to stop some (not all) fans feeling left short. You only have to look around at some of the forums that have already sprung up on the subject of the Resident Evil 5 DLC, the majority of people are asking, "Will it be free?".

Maybe developers should take a leaf out of Valves book. They are releasing new modes and levels for their game Left 4 Dead in the near future. The price? Free. This is the part where I get to say BS.

Value Faithful!!!

thought this should all be quoted again  Sven still hasn't cleared up the point he made...meaning in these tough times capcom just showed me what i won't be buying ever again

good luck goodbye lonely forum
