I know the retail version will have SecuROM, but not sure about the Steam version. It would be nice if they did the same thing that EA does.

Retail- DRM

Steam- They cut out the SecuROM/activation limits and only use Steam as the DRM.

I would definitely buy the Steam version in that case.

If Capcom is doing what im thinking they're doing... I think whether you purchase the game online or in store, you'll have to tie it to a Steam account thus preventing piracy.

As far as DRM, Steam is using DRM, we dont "see" it because its been streamlined into the Steam login.

Definitely, that's what Capcom should do - there are lots of people who will boycott a SecuROM-protected Steam game no matter how good it is (something I'll never understand), so why give them a reason to do that? EA listened to complaints and it seems to have worked for them just fine.

Steam's pretty pointless for anything other than TF2 or L4D, as they don't usually utilize the platform to its fullest extent. Whereas with SecuROM, you can just get a crack to avoid having to jump through hoops to run a game you bought.

Anyhow, I wonder when Sven can post an update regarding concerns about SecuROM not being future-proof. It would make sense to make such announcement before people actually decide to skip a game due to DRM issues.

While I understand the need for DRM (still dont like it. especially activation limits) I will never agree to have it tied to my steam account. that's just too much. install the game through steam which will then add securom and then ill be asked to install games for windows live.....what could go wrong...

The retail version uses Games for Windows LIVE, which is itself a pretty cool form of anti piracy.

The Steam version will use Steam's DRM. Retail will use SecuROM. Other digital outlets will use either SecuROM or that specific outlet's proprietary DRM mechanism (for those that have them). Games for Windows keys will be required for online play, regardless of outlet.

As such, all versions will have some form of DRM (regardless of how you choose to define DRM).
