SFIV PC for tournaments?

This question is mostly for Mr. s-kill. With Street Fighter IV coming out soon for the PC, how likely is it to see it become the standard for tournaments like EVO? A common platform that could accept both PS3 and 360 arcade sticks would do a lot to bridge the two consoles' communities, IMO.

Yeah, the current situation with 360 and PS3 is kinda sticky Smile. PC would be a pretty cool solution

Well, PS3 and 360 have also been confirmed to run faster than the arcade version. I'm wondering if the PC version has had it's speed adjusted.

Hmm.... I did not know that Rock.  I wonder if that effects gameplay in any way.

If your into the tourny scene, you most likely have a dual-mod stick. And besides, is to much of a hassle to ask the organisers to bring PC's(or build one)Console's are alot easier to transport then a PC, and more stable(Talking about the OS here)

I still play the Arcade Version at Chinatown Fair(People still play it)And the speed still feels the same as the console version.

Bringing a PC is not that hard, especially to something big. Some small tourny you set up for your friends then yeah but for something like EVO where they move hundreds of thing much larger then a PC it's irrelevant. Also my Windows machine is at least 100% more stable then the 360.


PC is really the only logical choice to use IMO.

It's not a huge difference. You have to run them side by side and do the speed check the old fashioned way, having the characters jump straight up until time runs out. They seem to start even at first, but as time goes on the PS3 and 360 versions do start to desync and go faster.

My thoughts exactly. I can definitely see portability being an issue at a small tournament, but I a large event? Come on. They used to bring in arcade machines to EVO. Ever hear of a LAN party? Transporting computers is not undoably hard.


I know that it would probably never happen though, because of the PERCEIVED stability issues (which is arguable; a properly running PC should not have stability issues). And I guess it's true that if you're serious enough to go to EVO and insist on using your own stick, then you should probably have the dual system mod.

Hey,


It's not something I'd considered before directly, but honestly it's not a bad idea.  PCs can seem to have more lilttle issues since the games aren't quite as "plug and play," but obviously it's overall a great platform.  One possible advantage of consoels over PC in this regard might be having slightly different specs on the PCs (we would need a lot of them), whereas consoles are uniform. 


That seems like a pretty marginal issue (and one that could be addressed), but at the top levels, even minute differences can be a big deal.  Even if machine specs don't result in any playable differences (and they should not), one thing so many years of EVO has taught me is that someone would complain about it anyway Tongue out


One other potential issue would be console swapping.  Given the number of games played at EVO, and the fact that the player-preferred versions tend to be on different consoles, we have to allot time and manpower to swapping out the previous game's console and swapping in the new one.  With consoles, this isn't fun, but isn't usually too bad (except for the DreamCast, which loves to break if you move it--we have easily burned out 50 of those things just playing MVC2), but swapping out a console and swapping in a PC would be a lot more work.



Definitely an interesting question to consider, however.  Hrm...
