With Resident Evil: Directors Cut coming out for PSN in the US next week, does Capcom plan to start releasing PSone Classics simultaneously or shortly after in Europe as well? There was a large delay for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Street Fighter Alpha to be released in Europe after America, and the argument could be made that SFA was released to make up for the delay of HDR.

There are extra issues for us in Europe for PS1 (rights issues) that we're still exploring but it's fair to say that PS1 releases are not eminent. Sorry.

Thank you for your answer, Sven. It seems that most developers and publishers give the same reason, which is shocking to find out. Surely if Virtual Console can release games pre-PSone once a week, Sony could do something similar with their PSone archive. My guess is Sony are stockpiling the classics to release as part of their (rumored) PSP rebranding and move to digital distribution. At least us Europeans got The Little Mermaid II before America did... I hate this.

Just out of interest:

Is it to do with virgin interactive distrubuting capcom games back in the day?

Or the PAL versions being in 50hz maybe?

Good point. Time to put my investigative hat on...

Virgin Interactive had the rights to sell Resident Evil and its first few sequels for PSone, PC and GC in Europe. Virgin Interactive was bought by Titus Software, which has now ceased trading.

My guess is distribution rights for the Resident Evil games on the PSone in Europe aren't relinquished yet. I know Resident Evil Zero for GameCube was re-released for Wii and that was originally distributed by Virgin, but I don't know if that was released in Europe as well... it's all speculation on my part anyway.
