Well, I'd say that less than 5% of all games run at 60fps overall. Most current gen games, even the big budget ones like RE5, are locked at 30. The real benefit of 120hz is when watching Blu-Ray movies. You hear a lot about 'dejudder' or 'motion blur reduction' but what it really comes down to is your picture is smoothed. Films are generally shot at 24fps, and since 120 is a multiple of 24 it's much easier for the TV to display the image exactly as it was filmed.

Long story short, unless you're running PC games on your TV I wouldn't worry about games hitting 120fps for a long, long time. Certainly not this generation. Games won't hit that level until 120hz tvs are extremely common. If a game is locked at 120fps and your tv can only show 60fps then you're going to get a rubbish image if you get one at all. Since most developers are still working on tweaking things with current gen hardware, i'd be surprised if you see any great number of games running at 1080p/60hz anytime soon.

well after that I will actually be able to sleep tongiht lol.....still I hope if or when developers do this they implemet the V-sync option into the game for those of use with 60hz tv's......but damn I didnt even know RE5 ran at 30......that game to me is close to flawless......thanks for the words man.....and the judder is not too bad in movies really.....maybe the 240hz is much more noticeable not sure....

Well, V-sync works regardless of your screen refresh rate. As was mentioned earlier, all it does is prevent the game's frame-rate from exceeding your screen refresh. MOST console games are already running at an optimum framerate since console hardware doesn't change in meaningful ways. IE: You might get a slim PS2 but the specs are still pretty well the same as those of an older PS2. V-Sync really helps PC users more since your computer's capabilities are different from mine and everyone elses. But since console and TV specifications are fairly well set for the time being, you won't have to worry about a 120hz or 240hz tv anytime soon as a requirement for gaming.

Well, having 4 PS3 consoles and 4 copies of a single game running on a single screen isn't likely to become a requirement. They were just showing off with that one. :)

No1 cause of screen tearing on consoles it that to optimise the FPS usually takes 6 months or more few games on console's get this so they compromise and disable vsync which causes horrible screen tearing on most games but more playable FPS.

Dead Rising on X360 is the best 360 game you can get still IMO. However, it has appalling screen tearing which ruins the cut scenes atmosphere & gameplay. It was ok until Fall 2006 MS dashboard update changed something and has never been fixed since. Only work around I found is that if you use a Component cable on your X360 the screen tearing goes away totally. VGA + HDMI is broken. Same with Resident Evil5 on X360 superb game but again unless you use a Component cable the screen tears regardless of resolution. Not every single HDTV exhibits these symptoms but a lot do.

MS should address this & developers should include a vsync option like the LEGO games have to let the gamer decide.

Well, I don't know anything about Blu-ray as I don't watch movies and don't use it. But I can tell you that the graphics card you mentioned would enable you to play any game of highest for a loooong time. I have a 9800GT HYBRID POWER DDR3 1GB and any game I set to highest runs smooth as butter on a skating ring.

hmm well I am a bit restrained due to the fact my PSU is only about 300-350 so I need a card that only requires that much power.......and this is the cheapest one...runs for about $160......and yeah I am assuming if its good enoguh for high end games it should be good enough to play a huge video file......Im thinking the 1GB since I want to take some stress away from my CPU....not sure how it will turn out but ill keep you guys posted.....if anyone has a better suggestion please post....I think it is a little bit of over kill but it still might be in my best interest?
