I just recently got done hacking up my arcade again to remove the ipac and put in my two cthulhu MC boards, they dont plug into the comptuer as a keyboard but instead as full fledged windows gamepads (like you see it in the controller section of windows with an analog, dpad, buttons) Well guess what?
Problem still not sovled!
Because for what ever reason the way the game is coded, when you play 2 players the 2nd player has to press "start button" to join and none of the buttons seem to register to SF4 as the start button. So the 2nd player can not play at all. Both joysticks work but only as 1 player but selecting the "choose 1 player device" in the game options. This shows a very poor coding of the game. First the lack of 2 player keyboard, and now the lack of 3rd party controllers as well. I tried everything I can think of and I can not get the 2nd joystick in the game at the same time as the first. So for now I am forced to make somebody play the game with a Xbox 360 controller and thats no fun for anybody. Especially with full blown arcade controls unmaned staring you in the face. |

You have to assing a button from the controller to the start when you launch the game. |

Can Capcom confirm if this issue is being addressed or left as is? I assume the silence means we are SOL. |

I have done that, many times.
It defaults to button 8 and button 8 is my FK button so even if I didnt set the start button it should work when I press FK, my start button is button 10 and every single time I set button 10 in the config at the launcher, it reverts back to button 8, as in you close the configuration and if you open it again its back to how it was.
I googled the problem and others are having the same exact issue with some 3rd party gamepads. So seems SF4 is not coded to accept generic gamepads instead it only recognizes certian ones. My joysticks are working fine in EVERY other game, I tested it thouroughly before blaming the game, and I tried everything I can think of to fix it. My only lead right now is a file called pad.default.ini in the game config folder, it has a few joysticks listed with there ID and default layout, if I can find a way to program my gamepad in there maybe it will work, but the ID strings used have many characters and are unusual, its not the standard PID/VID type. |

Probably so. No love for the people who build their own controls on keyboard encoders. |

Regardless of what they are going to do it would be nice to see someone from Capcom post in this thread, letting us know if this might be possibly addressed or something, anything. The silence is pretty lame. |

Hey BILL, Thank you so much for providing help reagarding having 2 players on 1 keyboard, unfortunately I don't understand everything your doing and I need some more help, please. I have followed ur instructions on Page 1, Post #9. The part I get stuck at is Step 13 and beyond. For Step 13, are we inputting the Controls we desire to use in SF4? For a small example, I want to use: Controller 1: W = Up UpArrow = Up The next part is to map these keys to the SF4 Launcher, Controller Setting, I mapped all the keys, also have the bottom drop down set to custom. I did the same for P2. Then I click Launch SF4, now this is where parts get confusing. NOTE: PPJoykey states the following comment at the top "sending Joystick updates to PPJoy. Step 18 states, go into Option and click on "Assign 1P Device" I did this like 100 times, and nothing works, none of my keys work, and I can't move in a game. Like what do I do? How do I make SF4 understand I want to use PPJoy Keys as apposed to the builtin SF4 keyboard keys. |

Like stated earlier in this thread, some keyboard buttons can't be used. Because some of them are "fixed" to menu controls. If you search in the thread, you'll find a post where I wrote wich keyboard buttons I use on both controllers. Keep in mind I don't use real keyboard to play with 2 players, I use X-arcade. The layout I posted will be hard to play with 2 people on keyboard. In fact, because not all buttons are able to be used or remapped.. I think it will be hard to find a layout that is comfortable for 2 players on keyboard. The actual binding of controller 1 and 2 is explained in step 18. Start the game, go into options and choose "Assign 1P device". Press one of the keyboard buttons mapped to "Virtual Joystick 1", or on the controller you use. This will assign 1P to Joystick 1, and it will automaticly assign 2P to Joystick 2. Capcom should fix this issue in a patch. Because not everyone is able to use PPjoy (64bit users) and even if you use this workaround, its basicly impossible to have a comfortable game between 2 players playing on a real keyboard.

Hi BILL, Thanks for the list of buttons we can't use, but still, nothing works for me. I just tried using ur PPjoy scripts and setup everything in Controller Settings exactly like yours, but in game nothing works. I went to Assign P1 Device, I press "Q" since that key is used on your PPJoy1key and nothing works. I think my problem has something to do with the following game menus: Button Config |
