Hey, I know theres only one online account per game, and the retail game has a DVD-check. But my question is: is there a limited number of installs per game? I know some PC games have that, and I was wondering if SFIV was one of them. Thanks.
GfWL has limited activations, the retail version doesn't add any further limits. The limited activations will supposedly be taken out in GfWL 3.0, though.

Do you have to activate the game to see if it works? I'm asking because I have a laptop that may or may not run it well, and I don't want to waste an activation on it if it doesn't work.

No idea. I don't think you'll use an activation as long as you don't actually log in to LIVE. Or you could use the separate benchmark program released not long ago.
Since when does GWFL have activation limits? Doesn't the serial BIND itself to your LIVE account? Even if you tried using it under a different account it wouldn't work anymore.

No... but you won't be able to play online or save a game (unlock anything) without it being activated.

Since the beginning? Activation limits are on top of the serial being bound to your account. In GfWL 3.0, that's the only thing that'll remain, so it should function similarly to Steam in that respect.

How many activations do I get? I'd liked to be able to have it activted on my desktop and laptop so I can play on the go. Do I have to get another copy just for my laptop?

You can safely install the game on your laptop and your desktop PC, you'll just have to put the DVD into the drive before playing. And that's awesome.
