but i personally do not believe pirating games hurts them. it doesnt hurt the music industry, even though they have desperatly tried to convice us that it is so. Same with movies. they are raking in huge amounts of money; piracy is more of a free preview.
i think its more wrong to force someone to unkowingly buy a crap product, than it is for them to try it before they buy.
of course, there is no proof one way or the other...
if piracy is so aweful, then why was MHP2G the best selling game across all systems, last year... and it was only realesed in Japan. so many of us imported it.
blah blah blah. im sure ive pissed off a few people with this opinion.
Capcom will certainly mind... It is still considered as stealing and the release date is only a few days away. Whether you have bought it or not, downloading it is not helping Capcom in at all and it's definitely supporting piracy.
Uhm, how is it considered stealing, the copyright law in my country at least states that you can have a backup copy of ANYTHING you own for you own use, so if he paid for it already in the pre-order how is he stealing anything? Capcom already has his money, thus he now owns it.
Piracy is considered as stealing.

No, it is not, but that's not the issue here, anyway. Care to explain how you can steal something you already paid for?
You walk into a store, put down forty bucks on the counter for SF4, then make a mad dash for the shelf it's sitting on, grab the game, and then jump through the window to get away. Is that what you're thinking of?
I could theoretically go to a police station, with my legit copy of lost planet colonies, download a torrent it on one of their pc's while they are watching what I'm doing, then burn it and take it home. Without them being able to do anything about it, its perfectly legal ( at least here) to have a copy of something you own for personal use, like if you don't want the original disc to damage.
very interesting...if you already bought it.....I would think yes its fine to download.....but I believe if you want to get technical.....by the law saying you can have a backup it means you can backup the game yourself using your own disc....in this case you are downloading a different game...yes still SF4 but this is not the game you will be getting....therefore this game does not really belong to you......
either way you look at it ....I believe capcom would say sure back up your game when it arives...but by no means go and download a torrent....lol....

How can I steal a copy of something I already have?
From my point of review, downloading before the game comes out offers capcom 2 benefits.
1. A more satisfied costumer. Satisfied customers are likely to purchase products again from you. 2. Leeching onto torrents which slows them down even further, which makes the people who are dishonestly trying to get the game have a more unpleasant time getting it. This in turn tempts them to just go out and buy the game. Thiefs steal things when it is easier to steal it than to buy it. So therefore, the harder you make it on them, the less they are inclined to steal it. That's why there's cd keys to prevent people from playing online.
Let's say that hypothetically, all the people here who honestly bought the game leeched on the torrents. Right now you can download the game in about a day. If we all leeched on, we could bring it to possibly two weeks. This makes stealing the game far less attractive. Think about it, who wants to leave their computer on 2 weeks trying to get a game they can't play online. This is further less appealing when you have to seed during those weeks..making your internet connection incredibly slow. It's far easier and simpler just to go out and buy the game.
Therefore, by making the stealing experience even more of a hassle, more people will start to buy the game instead of stealing it in the first place.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm willing to leave my computer on when I'm not using it to keep downloading torrents of SFIV. As soon as your done, just delete it, and download it again. As I stated earlier, this will cause more people to buy the game, and therefore more sales for capcom, which will make them release more PC games, which we the consumer will benefit from.

I would say so too, but I'm just looking at it from a legal standpoint. The copyright law here doesn't actually differeciate between wether its your copy or not, matter of fact as long as it doesn't concern software you are allowed a home copy of any video/audio for own personal use wether you own it or not. For software copies you do actually need to own it, but it doesn't have to be your original which needs to be copied, since you own the license to use it. Thus if I lost the disc to lost planet colonies, or the disc broke or whatever, I'm legally allowed to download it again.
I suspect our preference would be for you to wait for the game to release before playing any form.
What about redundant leaked downloads after the game is released? THat way we could download the torrent file by leeching, then delete, and download again. If we did that we could definiatly make it a lot more painful for the people are trying to get away with not paying for the game.
Tom I seriously don't think those people care, if they don't want to pay then they won't even if it takes ~2 weeks. Sven has already given you an answer on the matter, think the rest is irrelevant.
