Sven, Seth and the like have been awfully quiet over this thread. I think Capcom is watching it. This is a strong chance to show A LOT of support for this kind of investment. If you have friends who really wanted this remix, but maybe weren't a unity member, now would be the time to get them into our community.

Keep it up, folks!

I go by what is actually in the games, I also am looking at "Darkstalkers Graphic file" at the endings.

Whoa, you're missing ALOT of stuff, then. Way before the Darkstalkers Graphic file came out for the US, the "All about Capcom Fighting Game" book was released, and it had information about lots of Capcom games that was provided from the official japanese writers and company sources. It's not just "that book I mentioned" Tongue out it's been used as a source for the canon of Street Fighter and Darkstalkers for years. Alot of people who know about the Darkstalkers story, know about the noble families of Makai, right? That information's not in the game; where do you think it was revealed? The book also describes the Makai world, the different strength levels of Makai inhabitants, the history of Morrigan's family and lots of other stuff.  You don't have the complete canon if you don't have this.

And the intentions of the writers I think were pretty clear, in that time, man. I mean, Pyron didn't come back in the other games because he was meant to be the villain for the first part of the story and that's it. They intended to advance the storyline after that, and they were'nt afraid to leave him behind in order to do that. That doesn't make fans happy nowdays of course (which I can totally understand; I'm a huge Donovan fan myself and I hated that he wasn't in the arcade release of Savior), and writers nowdays probably aren't bold enough to remove a character completely from a game only for story reasons. But in that time, the japanese writers felt it was fine.

canon isn't important if the fans want lilith back, the scenario I said was only a likely one given how the writers of Cross-edge basically did that same thing, except against her will.

not that it matters. Its Darkstalkers, game first, back story stuff later, its a fighting game for crying out loud. Just slap some world threat and some flimsy reason for everyone to get involved and blamo we got a game.

Well wait, I know it's a fighting game and story comes second. I'm not sure why you're turning around and telling me this now, I mean.. we're discussing here, assuming that the canon were to be taken seriously, right? I'm stating reasons why the current canon makes the story continuation difficult, I'm not saying that Capcom can't do what they want or that canon is more important than fan demand. Yes, Capcom can do whatever they want. I just thought in this conversation we were both assuming that they wanted to keep the canon intact. If you come back now and say "ah it's not really important", then we're on different wavelengths altogether.

Look, in my opinion, Darkstalkers is a different from other fighting game series, because the character designs draw people in; they make people want to see and know more about the characters. Probably the only reason why Darkstalkers is still as popular as it is today, even though we haven't had a single new game in more than a decade, is the characters. These guys aren't a bunch of men in karate gis doing spinning kicks, these characters wield floating swords and summon spirits, and they fight in stages that have giant scary-looking fetuses. Things like that make people want to know more, and for that reason, I think Capcom would be interested in taking a bit of extra-special care with some of the game's background and story.

As for the future I only see one way it can go, Anita. Making Anita the main character would make it easier to take a Street Fighter 3 approach with the series and may be the best bet to do so. If the old characters can be added that's fine but it shouldn't interfere with the natural flow of the storytelling.

Wait a minute. Anita's great and she should have some role if a sequel was made, but the majority of the original characters should definitely stick around. They're the reason most people are fans of the series. As much as I'm arguing in favor of following a storyline, excluding the old characters is really not an option, in my opinion.

I don't wanna exclude a classic group of characters but nothing is never gained by standing still. Anita as the main character just makes logical sense. And you could feel if the story was to continue it would be from her perspective. Unless a brand new character was created to tell a brand new tale through then Anita is the best character for the job.

As far as the characters go there are archetypes that could easily be filled with new characters. Sexy Kitty Cat, Brooding Vampire, Bored Succubus, Another Frankenstein, Hunter with a creeping evil inside and I could go on and on. These archetypes and all the others in the series can easily be filled  or manipulated to create new archetypes. Perfect examples include characters like Necro, Sean and Remy from Street Fighter 3. So just because there character isn't there in form doesn't mean they're not there in vein of spirit. If there is any future for the series then reintroducing the old to prepare for the new is the way to go,

GrimyVision is the future and there is a reason I'm Emperor of the Internet!!! Take a look for yourself.

Do you actually think replacements are going to do any better than the originals???

Thankyou Rhuen. Speaking of endings, do you guys( and girls) think Capcom gonna make the endings like they did Street Fighter HD

I'd hope so, fully animated openings and endings are all the rage these days.

and Dhylec, Darkstalkers Graphic file does mention all that Makai history in it, however I also know that mistakes get made, in fact in it there is a chart of what characters appear in what games, and some of the dots are in the wrong place, listing some in games they arn't in and others not listed in ones they are.

I can easily see how a mistake (Morrigan/Demitri) could be made in regards to Pyron.

yes plot is important, but this is a game where the plot is in camps

(Makai: Morrigan, Demitri, Jedah, and related characters)

(Felicia and Jon: the human interacting characters)

(The hunters: Donovan, Hsien-Ko and crew)

(The Outsiders: Anakaris, Rikou, ect...)

All these characters get tied loosly by only odd world effecting dangers.

Besides some guys need retconned anyway, like Lord Raptor, did the math on his birthday, to be a rock zombie he would have been over 70 before punk rock was even invented.

What it boils down to is, any reason for them not to fight has been overlooked before. Like I said they had no reason for all of these guys to fight each other to start with. The plot was more like (everyone team up and take down Pyron) rather than fight amongst yourselves, unlike Street Fighter which has a tournament for that. Same deal with Darkstalkers 3, the enemy was Jedah, so why fight each other? other than those in same camp having issues with each other.

This camp thing in fact is why we may never see a movie (CGI or otherwise) serious characteritise and so few making sense to interact. Like they'd have to focus on just (Makai) or (Felicia and Jon) or (Donovan & Hsien-Ko) camps and wedge in some of the extra guys for interactions.

Its like the comic book by Udon, you feel like your reading three different comic books woven together because of this.

Another Frankenstin, another catgirl, another robot. The only characters worth keeping are Hisen-Ko, Morrigan and Dimitri. Than there's anyone who's story isn't complete, which is pretty much just Donovan (evil Donovan in Chaos tower!). Everyone else is expendable.

VS 3 with older Anita = best idea.

But I'll settle for a VS 2 HD.

Need more Ibuki.
And Juli.
And Chick Dictator is still hot.

I love when games kill of characters, I mean it sucks when they're your favorite :/ but I think plot is really important.

I hope if Capcom brings this game back they give it a few more modes, especially if its going to be an HD remix. I know the HD SF was mostly for online play, but I felt jipped when it came to modes because I honestly hate online play. XD And btw, I got HD remix because I missed the old SF ;3 I know the games purpose was online play.
