Capcom seems to be enjoying very strong sales when it comes to Street Fighter IV. It sold 3 million copies on consoles alone. Even if the PC version has 500k total between retail and Steam, that still puts this game well into successful territory. Mortal Kombat may have lost staying power but the World Warriors seem to be going strong.
Capcom did, by largely ignoring the third iteration of the franchise and turning back to the second entry as a continuing point (much like Superman Returns did).
I think Capcom has already done this with Street Fighter IV, two movies (one animated, one live action) and an on-going comic book, among other merchandise. Street Fighter isn't hurting for popularity.
It isn't really about licensing conflicts. It is the fact that outside of the realm of fanboy driven aspirations, the franchise would not make much sense in terms of plot or gameplay mechanics. The end result, no matter how well developed, would be sloppy. If you really want to see Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter (and how horrible the lack of balance would be), I suuggest you go find M.U.G.E.N. and fill it with various Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter characters. |

Popularity over Good games? no thx... I'd rather see 2 decent games revamped and redone then Capcom have to go up against a series that should have died after MKII. >_> thats just me thou.
*insert witty comment and words i can't spell here*

I'd rather get a legit next-gen MK first. Besides, the blood/gore would likely be taken out. That's what made Mortal Kombat so iconic in the first place.

Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter is another dream match I always wanted to see. I definitely would play it if they make it. Two great game series going at it? Why not? It happened with SNK, it can happen with this too. |

Wear and Tear and minor blood can still be implemented into this game. Mortal Kombat 9 will be released before this anyhow. Hopefully Capcom ASKS at least Warner Bros what it will take for this to happen. 50/50 profits down the middle.

The Street Fighter fighting engine is obviously superior. Most of the changes to the fighting engine would be cosmetic, ex. just add the classic MK uppercut. I suppose part of an agreement with warner bros. would involve letting the MK team make their own version similar to the Capcom and Snk agreement. Its no secret which version I think will be superior. MK has interesting characters and atmosphere, it would be so good to have the refined street fighter fighting engine behind that. One art style they could use that would work well with both franchises, low saturation color, with pulses of vivid particle effects with high saturation. Uh and give everything a subtle MK green glow |

Yeah, thats what I meant. Though I'd really prefer a Capcom all-stars fighter over CvS3. Really wouldn't care to see SF vs. MK at all. |

I thought trilogy was the best of the bunch! i have almost all the games... Either way, if done correctly this would be awesome! And no story needed, just give me versus!
Don't listen to me, I'll only make you miserable ;]

I also think that everything after MKII was garbage. If this is what Capcom wants to do, I'll support it, but it's not the at the top of the list of things I want to see in terms of Vs. fighting.
Coming Soon: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Super Street Fighter IV, Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2, Bayonetta, Dark Void, Monster Hunter Tri |
