PCs have to run a full OS rather than just a kernel, as well as additional programs running in the background. Consoles do not, therefore some things are a bit more taxing if you want to achieve the same result in some cases.

So why is split-screen one of these special things that are somehow much more taxing on PCs than on consoles? I really don't see any reason. Especially when one of RE5's PC exclusive features is support for Nvidia's 3D display thingy - you know, rendering the game from two viewpoints instead of one?

You have a quad core processor where as an XBOX 360 has a tricore processor. That pretty much undermined your arguent right there.

...If it weren't for the fact that the X360 executes two hardware threads in parallel on every core. Whoopsie?

A more inferior console can run the same games as a superior PC, because less resources are needed to get about the same performance as a more powerful PC.

That's kind of ignoring the fact that he's running stuff far beyond the console's capacity. You need better hardware to run more computation-intensive stuff? Shocker!

PCs multitask at all times, even when the user is not actively doing anything.

Have you ever looked at your CPU load while not doing anything? If you did, maybe you'd realize how irrelevant that argument is.

1) Running threads is always inferior to having multiple cores. This is why a 3.0GHZ HT processor is still outpaced by a 2.1GHZ dual core processor, even though the HT processor is hypothetically running "two processors" in tandem. It might give the 360 a performance boost but it still fails to measure up to having an additional genuine core. If this weren't the case, more games would support the use of Pentium IV/Pentium D processors that suppport hyper threading as a viable alternative to a genuine dual core processor.

2) "The reason most studios have abandoned, Booth pointed out, are easy to identify. You're tasking the hardware with displaying the content on-screen twice."

That is a quote directly from the mouth of a lead designer on Left 4 Dead.

3) Nvidia 3D vision isn't about two view points at once. You are flat out wrong. It is simply an IR based 3D glasses set up that relays the video output to rapidly shuttering lenses in the head set so that you can get 3D. It is pretty much like the old stereoscopic 3D that required red and blue lenses, except no need for red and blue lenses. So it has nothing to do with your systems processing power. It  just converts video output. So why even bring that up?

4) I am running an AMD Athlon X2 64 2.1GHZ processor, 4GB of RAM and an HD 3200 GPU with 256MB of RAM. Right now, the only active thing I am doing, is looking at this web page. My CPU usage is ~43% and my RAM (physical, not virtual) is ~40%. In the background I am running Panda Anti-Virus, Ad-Aware and Spybot.

I assume most people run at least one anti-virus on their computer (I am just a bit paranoid). So lets be friendly and say that CPU usage would drop to 24% in that case and RAM usage down to 29%, you still have a lot of resources being used in parallel. Consoles only do one task at a time. You can only watch a movie or only play a game. So you have no real background processes to worry about. So I don't see what your point is.

Alright, mind if we get this thread back on track?

It's way off topic.

Thanks.

Technically it is still on topic isn't it? The examples are a bit outside of the topic, but we are arguing over why Resident Evil 5 on the PC did not include same screen co-op. I offered my views from a technical perspective, but it appears that many take my word to be dubious. Do you care to offer any insight Twiggy?

Native Dialect,

I didn't prove your point, not even remotely.  Now you're just being stubborn and willingly naive -- especialy about PC hardware.

Debating with someone that's in denail is always futile.

Anyways...

I beat RE5 for the first time on Thurdsay on vetren mode. :)  Starting again on proffesional mode.  On vetren mode, the game had a few areas that were a walk in the park, but there were other areas that kept me happy.  Anyways, great game to add to my collection.

Well, the thread is a Thank You thread. Technically it shouldn't have been made in the first place because this is Ask Capcom, but Sven & Joveth were happy to hear th praise which is why I think it should remain open.

However, lately, it's become a discussion on why there's no split screen. That's not really on topic.
