Bringing back the old Resident Evil

I think the RE2 level in RE Darkside Chronicles will be cool enough, making remakes unnecessary. What I really hope is that Resident Evil PSP will bring back zombies a T-Virus, but retain the gameplay from RE5. I think this RE for PSP will be focused in 4 players coop since Monster Hunter was a success in the PSP because of this social portable gameplay experience and even Lost Planet 2 take inspiration from the Monster Hunter series.

id love a resident evil 2 remake. but i want the main series to go back to its roots. i want it to be more horror based again and creepy. this is part of the reason why alot of us want outbreak back. im gettin gto the point where my fave series ever is boring me. and if the next main game in the series is how 4/5 was then i wont be buying. 4 and 5 were good but they were not resident evil. oh well. time will tell.

1) I agree that Resident Evil has become less of a survival horror and more of a straight forward action game. I can admit that the settings of the first two Resident Evil games made them slightly eerie to play alone.

2) I doubt that Capcom will go back to the original formula because it had less appeal. The games were wildly popular of course (it is Capcom's best selling franchise) but the franchise has since experienced an explosion of popularity with the introduction of the rail shooters on Wii and the more action oriented sequels, 4 & 5.

Mikami said that real/regular zombies were not as threatening because they moved slow. Most players were frantic only because of how the game controlled, not because the enemy was something to be feared. This is why the camera angle was adjusted and static and it is also why we have non-zombie enemies. It makes things more hectic when you are swarmed by an angry thinking mob of monsterous humanoids.

I feel the best solution would be to abandon these global locales and exotic settings and go for something a bit more dark. The setting change has affected the franchise more than its gameplay changes. Spain and Africa don't really scream out "creepy." A factory, old mansion or a good forest could easily fix that. It is sort of like Friday the 13th Part 3. It took place in Manhattan. Not scary. Friday the 13th Part 10 (referred to as Jason X) took place in a spaceship in outerspace...worked well with Aliens, but not Jason. I see Resident Evil as the same way. The old mansion was as much a creepy entity as the creatures you directly fought.

So true Native I couldn't agree more.  Africa can be scary just not while the sun is out.  Man if they would have made that African village part in 5 with the crocs and such at night time man I would be freaked out.  I mean think about wading through the water at night with those monsters in the water and you can't see them until they're are right on you.  I'd crap myself lol!

i agree with everything being said, but as for the zombies not posing enough threat because they are slow, well then make more like dawn of the dead zombies and have them still be a brainless flesh hungry enemy but let them run and be more of a challenge, while bringing back the element of having to conserve ammo, better puzzles and everything

Here is one thing I have to say about the RE4 type games..

They are so linear it makes the games dull and boring. you CANNOT get lost like we all did at first with the First series.

I dont see WHY they cant go back to its Roots.. they said it was slow but I think it was just fine..

I gotta say I honestly didnt even finish RE5, it was rubbish. RE4 managed to be action packed as well as scary in parts, but RE5 was just an action game with a characters I used to recognise.

I am just crossing my fingers that they try to make REpsp a little scary, because with the sales numbers of RE5, I have some doubt they are going to go back to the classic horror for the main series anytime soon, but it sure would be nice.

I really really hope the series can get back to it's true self one day. Or at least have something like RE3.5.

I miss zombies, camera angles, lack of ammo, and horror. I really loved that stuff.

And I don't see why capcom thinks no one will buy it, or that people only like action games. I used to play shooters all the time, and I'm pretty sick of them now. I only played an old style RE game for the first time last year, and thought it was brillaint. I really wish they were still being made today. Cause I finished the series to fast, I just couldn't stop playing. I mean RE4 was ok, but it just didn't have the same feel. It was to much like every other game. And RE5 was just bad. Really bad. Horrible. I hope AE can fix this.

Also, a real RE2 Remake would be godlike, I don't want any of this on rails nonsense. Come on capcom, give us a full Remake of RE2, and RE3. Please! And Bring Outbreak back too, that was great.

Exactly i loved exploring and finding locked doors and having to search a dark eerie, creepy location to try and find the right keys and having to back track and all that seems like it may be a pain in the ass but the truth is..everybody loved it! take movies for instance as another point, the old classic horror movies were good, now they are doing remakes of them and they are trash! so when u take a good style game where nothing is wrong and try to redo it without any of the original elements...garbage
