There is a possibility that "maniac" could have instead meant "hardcore." Clearly in the interview, Jun states that they want Resident Evil to have a more broad appeal. We all know for a fact that Resident Evil 4 was a succesful platinum game, but we also know that Resident Evil 5 is the best selling Resident Evil game (meaning that Resident Evil 5 was successful in appealing to more people). Now the only confusing thing for me, is why they thought Resident Evil 4 was more for hardcore players. Resident Evil 5 clearly has its play mechanic rooted in the style of Resident Evil 4. Maybe the African controversy drew more of a crowd. Who knows.

Note that you can take what people on the internet say into consideration, but it is a bad way to run your business if you only listen to people on the net. Unless you want to go broke really fast. Internet opinion doesn't always have bearing on what actually sells. Otherwise Okami would be the greatest selling video game of all time, King of Fighters would make ten million dollars a year, a new Darkstalkers game would make a ZILLION dollars, no way in hell would Madden sells as good as it does and so on.

You'd be surprised at how many people just go out and buy games and do not post on the internet what they like and don't like about them. And sometimes the internet hate for a game is so bad, if they do praise it very little people care because let's face it, hate stands out more. At times they don't want to get into arguments with people so they just go on thinking as they do and remain silent. And you even have people praising games that they don't even buy, which is odd but it does happen.

The internet is a funny animal....

I think Takeuchi meant that "maniac fans" (literally translated) are "very passionate and dedicated". I don't think he meant that as any sort of insult,  but as more of an intimation of how hardcore they are and as a result, are fewer in number than a mainstream gamer (NOT to be confused with a  casual gamer).

We work very hard to listen to our fans. Our community outreach efforts like Unity exist for only this purpose. Your input has dramatically changed many (but not all) business decisions, influenced product directions, caused products to exist that otherwise wouldn't, etc. That doesn't mean that we can act on every request at every time, immediately.

Speaking in very general terms, and not at all in regard to anything mentioned in this thread, there are things that have been requested through the community and this site specifically that are in progress. Some of them won't show up or be heard about for many years. That's just the nature of how long these things take.

In a few cases, I've put my own reputation within the company on the line to make some of these happen (MvC2 being one example).

It is clear that Capcom does listen to us. The home version of Street Fighter IV had its bonus roster directly taken from Unity polls. That is how we wound up with Cammy and Fei Long. People made noise about the other two former New Challengers, and now they are in Super Street Fighter IV. Even look at Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which on the Wii, will probably have only a modest turn out here in the States, yet Capcom made it happen. Just a little bit of faith folks. That is all it takes.

I agree.  Capcom seems to really take our thoughts into consideration, as Native Dialect has pointed out.  MvC2 being another huge example.

This thread fails without fail. Thank you Sven and all Capcommunity officials for this kind of fan.Even after all the whining, complaining, ridiculous requests, followed by Capcom's response; it's hilarious that people come in here with allegations like this.

I guess my little ruse worked. I created this thread in the midst of excitement surrounding SSF4. There hasn't been much information on Darkstalkers or any other CAPCOM franchise for awhile so I decided to create this thread. I made it seem like I'm a disgruntle CAPCOM fan, but I'm not. : ) I just wanted a response from Sven and I did. To the person that said "this thread fails" , from the words of Brian Griffin's girlfriend, "shillax". : ) I know Jun didn't mean anything negative by those remarks and I also know CAPCOM does listen to their fans. I thought I try from a different angle to get new information from Sven. Just check Sven first reply buddy. : ) To Sven, since we're told of SSF4 in a year advance, how about Darkstalkers HD remix news in advance buddy?
ps. I just didn't want too much attention taken away from Darkstalkers HD remix that's all. : )
