They did use characters other than SF and KoF, in CvS2. It wasn't such a good idea, since those characters didn't blend well with the rest of the street fighters (save for Rival Schools' Kyosuke). Personally, I support Street Fighter vs King of Fighters (which could also easily include characters from Final Fight, Saturday Night Slam Masters, Rival Schools, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury and Maximum Impact) over a generic CvS3.

Anyway, this thread is about re-releasing an old game for PSN, not for making a whole new game (which is obviously a much bigger operation, and needs a lot more resources).

According to that, not really.

Not really to the first part, or to the second one? Because that's just a wiki page on the game. It doesn't have opinions, and sure as hell it confirms everything that I said.

If you meant the first one, well, learn how to read (also, I did own and play that game for a long time... you absently read a wiki page, and didn't manage to fully understand it... why linking it and why the arrogance? Just read it all again... Surprised ).

If you meant the second one, I don't think there's any point arguing if you don't understand the difference between rereleasing an old game for PSN and making a new one.

A crimson pool so warm and deep.
Lulls me to an endless sleep.
Your hand in mine - I will be brave.
take me from this earth.
An endless night - this, the end of life.
From the dark I feel your lips.
And I taste your bloody kiss.

Oh! My bad, I meant I looked up the character list and they didn't use more then SF and KOF (some DS and SS thrown in but y'know all fighters is what I was getting at)

Sorry for the arrogance didn't really mean it that way, just didn't have time to type much when I put that up.

The only fighting game I want from capcom is a new darkstalker title. I'm not a big fan of fighting games but  I did like SF4 and do like the darkstalker series. I get tired of fighting games the points s-kills makes about fightings are so true, i'll get maybe two a year and thats being generous, I'm still playing VF 5. I would love to see Hd remixs of other genres not just fighting games.

The thing which i loved about fighting games is that you can know your opponent player's mind better.

Playing versus close friends are so much fun.

I think MvS2 has a good strings of in-game logic flows.

I bought CVS2 twice on ps2 and somehow it disappeared from my house twice I love that game more so than MVC2 which also vanished so Id like it to come to PSN instead of buying it for ps2 again and not being able to play on ps3 but instead of a straight up port I think it would be nice if the levels from the first CVS could be included I just felt like those levels had alot  more personality than the CVS2 counterpart. It also might be smart if there was to be a download to have it include the CVS E.O play style with the thumb stick for pulling off supers easier. Its easy enough to play without but can make the game more accessible plus I get tired of my kids complaining about not being able to do supers when they want to play.I also think it would be cool if they added a couple character sprites like Alex and Hugo it would be easy enough to do plus something like that can add new incentive to buying the game again copying and pasting some 3rd strike sprites is fine with me.

I too would love to turn on my consoles and have my choice to play any of my past favorites, but a few things to keep in mind for CVS2, or really any Capcom fighter not currently available on next-gen systems:

"Just release it on PSN (or XBL, etc.)" is much harder than it sounds.  As you can see from MVC2 and SF HD Remix, we aim high in terms of overall standards even for digital-only releases, and getting online right, much less the port itself, can be a very painstaking process.  Having been a part of both of these from the inside, the amount of work that goes into the games, even when they are just ports+online (like MVC2) would likely shock you.   It takes a lot of time and effort, all of which costs money.

That leads us to consideration #2:  return on investment (aka "yes, this is a business that has to make money to keep the lights on").  CVS2 has a very dedicated following, and had a long tournament life, but wasn't one of Capcom's most generally popular fighters.  In order to make these proposals "pencil" (as in, predict reasonable sales that at least cover our development costs), we need to be able to offer games that appeal to a larger base than just existing CVS2 fans.  This is a hard market to expand, however, because CVS2 is *extremely* complicated for new users.  It has C, A, P, S, N, and K "grooves," a large cast, multiple team members, not to mention roll canceling (the first hurdle you must jump if you want to play "seriously"), which puts the difficulty bar at a ridiculously high place for anyone trying the game for the first time.

Finally, even if we can generate enough sales to cover costs, there are at least two other issues to consider: First is opportunity cost.  That's basically the cost of having our staff work on this instead of something else. The people we have working on CVS2 online aren't working on SSFIV, or some other game that might produce a better return.  We're all about the fan service (trust me when you see a few of the things we have in store!), but when fan service becomes a black hole for time and money, that party gets ended pretty quick.

The second issue has already been mentioned here, and that's flooding the market.  I am insane about fighters, as are a few of you, but for most of the game-buying public, they only have room for a fighting game or two per year.  If Capcom decides to release a bunch all at once (and let's not forget, we've already gone from approximately zero per year to MANY just since I've started), we risk burning out even the hardcore.  Being "hardcore" about any game means devoting a lot of time to it, so having a lot out at once can get in the way of having enough time to really spend with any of them.  Fighters are special--they aren't like your Assassin's Creed, where you play it, hopefully enjoy it, get to the end, and then stick it on the shelf with your collection, probably never to play it again.  You can play a good fighter every day for well over a decade without getting bored, and even without mastering it.  Having TOO many such creations around can be taxing on everyone's time.

Wow, long answer to a simple question, but hopefully that gives you a little extra perspective from our side...

best,

Seth

Actually, I have to disagree, and mvc2 also isnt complicated? mvc2 you have to control 3 characters at the same time, and deal with the brokeness of the Sentinel/Cable galore and the crazy amount of infinites in this game. At least in Cvs2 there is a 1 on 1 mode which gives casual gamers more options, plus even if cvs2 is 3 on 3 it isn't AT THE SAME TIME, like mvc2. Plus the groove isnt that complicated. AND, at least every character is some what playable in cvs2, not like in mvc2 where everyone just picks the SAME, lame characters over and over again to the point where you thought Sentinel/Cable/Magneto/Storm where the only playable characters in the game.

The Deadly Four, featuring Captain Commando: Clash of the Big 4, get it now on psn and xbla.

Roll canceling should be removed, IMO. Kara taunting to avoid a fireball? lol

Roll canceling was the only blemish on an otherwise fantastic fighting game, and a lot of SNK fans are feeling burned at the shoddy online play in KOF XII. A CVS2 re-release would be great to bring everyone together.
