Did we?

hmmm,

looking over just the games I own.

There is Primal Rage, Talon comes from a South Pacific Island, but he's not even human (he's a dinosaur), and a South Pacific Island could be any of a large number of places.

Well I looked through my collection of fighting games, only at the manuals. Surprised to see that very few games actually list that kind of stuff in the manual. Would have to look at the bio pages in the game. Which alot had during the Sega Saturn days, but few now seem to have.

Found some interesting character nationalities though, including an Australian and a Canadian.

Virtua Fighter:

Wolf: Canadian: fighting style: Wrestler

Jeffry: Australian: fighting style: Pancratium

Battle Arena Toshinden:

Elis Dee: Turkey. What's weird though is looking at her she is clearly Japanese, and a Loli type at that. Her father is Gaia, a Japanese man, and her mother an unknown Turkish woman apparently.

So no, Fillipino fighters that I am aware of.

Soul Calibur's Talim is Filipino I think...

Also, Lord Raptor is Australian and Sasquatch is Canadian (Maxima from KOF is as well)...

Thanks to this thread I have started a project using Access. I intend to look into every fighting game from every company and see how diverse the casts are divided by name, Gender, species, nationality, and of course game.

Just got done doing Battle Arena Toshinden, had more games than I thought, and had a funny pattern. At first the diversity was low, simular in fact to Street Fighter II, but it looks like as the number grew the cast got more diverse in nationality, although many characters were nothing but doubles of earlier characters much like Plasma Sword did to compare it to a Capcom game, and as the sequals grew the game got less Sci-fi and more fantasy and even some none-humans got involved, a robot, a bio-android, a primate, and a cat-girl*debatable on that one though*, and even a 2000 year old sorcerer.

But anywho. the diversity. total number of characters in all: 50, 14 females, 35 males.

countries represented in all: (alot more than there should be listed as Unknown, as if that was their way to make one too many mysterious), In Alphabetical order: Austria, Brazil, China, Cuba, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Norway, Peru, Russia, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Turkey, United States.

Most those are just one each, the majority are Japan and the United States with China and England getting most of the rest. I remember once saying the same thing about the diversity of Street Fighter.

No coincidence if you ask me. Battle Arena Toshinden practically copied Street Fighter on a few things, heck Eiji and Kayin are just sword swinging version of Ryu and Ken.

I don't expect to find many Fillipino fighters, but who knows.

I think a lot of people are in favor of an Israeli character who uses Krav Maga. Rather interesting fighting style! Unlike other styles which where made to help discipline the body and mind, Krav Maga was invented for the purpose of survival!

YES, YES, AND YES!

Capcom you've hung out with Cung Le, I remember some pics of Ono, Seth, and Cung Le. How about using him for choreography for a SF commercial or just base a new character off him. You can rep South Vietnam AND have a new fighting style, Sanshou, enter the ring Wink

Ryu: "That's fine. Perhaps I can learn something worthwhile from your discipline. However, I won't lose. Let me show you the meaning of true strength."

I would like to see Canadian, Austriallian, Egyptian, and Turkish as SF characters

@Rhuen, Egyptians could fight  the same as Zangief, Cody and Guy

Dudley and Guy for SSF4

....only Namco has thought of this so far.... (I'll give 'em respect for that)

Talim = Soul  Series and Mokujin = Tekken Series.

I would want to see one in Street Fighter, the perfect platform. Street Fights ALWAYS happens in Philippines.
