In the Spyborgs forum Sven stated that Spyborgs will utilize all of the Wii's graphical power, but after I watched the first video, it looks like it could easily be done on the PS2. I'm wondering when we can see new videos or screens of this game in action. I also like that you're giving us I Wii exclusive, but does it have to have potty humor?
You won't see new assets for several more months. We're refining it considerably (pretty much as significant an overhaul as Dark Void underwent from its first announcement to its first big reveal). I have seen a new build recently though... it's coming along nicely. That's all I'll say about that for now.
I hope by "significant overhaul" you mean removing the minigames, cartoon style, juvenile humor and overall family friendly image of the game.
And it's not that I'm opposed to those things, but 1) you guys were seriously forcing the issue and it showed in every aspect of the game. Super Mario is as E for everyone as it gets yet it doesn't force the issue or insult our intelligence. Everything feels natural and like it belongs in the universe so we happily accept it. 2) The Wii has more than enough family games already.
When you look at the pedigree of the team.. The character designs from games they've worked on.... You see a lot of Saturday morning cartoon influence in all of them. But more detail. More artistry. WoW and R&C both have a better mix of cartoon and realism. I hope Spyborgs leans more and more towards a R&C/WoW style while keeping the Celshaded look and hopefully continuing to refine it.
Ratchet and Clank
World of Warcraft
Resistance: Fall of Man
Tony Hawk
Call of Duty
The Killer for me personally was the DJ Character I saw in the trailer. It reeked of Marketing Research to me. Very 90s generic. So was the fish minigame.
I think the commercial breaks idea is sound. But they have to be funny. Bionic Games needs to watch Amazon Women from the Moon a few times for inspiration.
The VERY first scene of Amazon Women on the Moon had me crying in laughter the first time I saw it. Arsenio at his best. :)
Robert Glibert could really help the humor on this game, keeping it funny for all ages, mainly us older peeps. I played Monkey Island 1 again on my DS last year and it was just as funny as I recall and I haven't played it through since the early nineties.
I agree with pretty much everything in the last three posts. Spyborgs has a ton of potential, but I don't see it as a game for me while it has that soft, overly-rounded look to it (I'm being vague on purpose here, as I really don't want to insult the team working on the game in any way).
It needs more detail. Saturday morning cartoon doesn't necessarily have to mean simple. Look at Biker Mice from Mars. Again, that comparison to Rachet and Clank is spot on.
