Who holds the rights to FF?

Not sure if Capcom USA holds the rights to FF

But seeing games like Bionic Command: Rearmed

So going by that would it be possible for Capcom to make Final Fight sequel/spinoff just like they did with Bionic Commando: Rearmed? Such a great 2.5D game and it has gotten the respect of many gamers and even game reviewers.

This digital downloadable games could be a huge thing for Capcom, specially since they don't have to spend years making a huge 3D game. Doesn't have to be a sequel, can be some kind of remake/spinoff with MANY extra features.

So would Capcom USA have to ask Capcom Japan to go ahead with such a project or what?

Final Fight is a property we own and control.

That said, believe it or not, these games do take a long time to make. BCR was a good long time in the making.

These games are not quick and easy.

By "we," do you mean Capcom, or Capcom USA?  I just ask because I'd heard some rumors once (that I think have since subsided) that Capcom USA got rights to basically be "the top" for certain properties or something.  Typing it out, it sounds kind of ridiculous, but I am sort of curious if there are any franchises in which Capcom USA can act on their own insofar as initiating development and the like, or does it all have to go through Japan first?

(I'm betting on the latter, but remain curious.)

Correct, like Street Fighter, the IP is held by Capcom USA. We control it in that we can do many things with it (like licensing activities) with no input or oversight from folks in Japan, within the bounds of legal use.

Seperate from that is the question of game development. Technically any and all game development projects (not just those that involve CJ or CEI IP) require board of director approval from CEI to proceed... which sounds like we're in complete control until you consider that about four or five  (members change from time to time) of the CEI board members also sit on the Capcom Co. LTD board of directors. Suffice to say, we work collaboratively to decide what to do with the IP we own. As you also might imagine, it's not in anyone's best interest to "go rogue" with millions of dollars in budgets.

Ok, so to be sure I have it straight: The games are always collaborations, but you guys have free reign over things like Street Fighter cartoons and Mega Man action figures and things of that nature, which are produced Stateside, or at least for the US?

Street Fighter cartoons, underwear, bedsheets, figures, comics, etc. yes.

Mega Man Action figures, Lunchboxes, controllers, hats, plushes, no. We don't own or control the MM IP so even while we have licensing rights in this territory for MM products, the actual implimentation requires approval from a slew of people in Japan.

Ah, interesting.  So why are you guys given more free reign on Street Fighter?

And while I'm at it, is there any licensed stuff that you wish CoA had more of a say in?

Understood!

Thank you Sven, so it isn't something Capcom Japan has to initiate, but more something you guys can go ahead on and present to them if you guys see it profitable/doable.

Cool cool, ah, so the digital games like BCR aren't as easy as we think they are to make...Wow I really thought they were easy. I'm sure it's easier than full out 3D but still takes a long time, eh?

I know you guys have a strategy from year to year, so I'm psyched to see what else you guys are cooking up. I really like this digital games idea, specially if it involves Capcom classics like Bionic Commando and the like.

You can now close this now, don't want people borbarding you with FF requests :D at least not in this thread.

They could use the street fighter IV engine to make Final Fight 4 a 2.5D game.If it was consider...I just hope that they don't make another final fight streetwise type of FF.
