Will Capcom release a next gen Strider game? Strider 2 on the PS1 was cool. Bring the series to this gen! Bring a remake and a next gen version ala Bionic Commando, pleeeeease!

Great idea. And to release PS1 versions of Strider 1 and Strider 2 would be cool, too. |

We appreciate the vote of confidenceand as Inafune-san has indicated recently in his 1Up interview, we are thinking about it but there is no project of this sort in development at this time.

It's current gen, so call it that now, and I would love a new Strider game!

Alright. So Capcom's interested in making a new entry in the Strider series, but there isn't currently anything in development. In that case, I have a few questions. 1. Is there any truth to the third-hand rumor that Capcom and Moto Kikaku jointly own the Hiryu character, due to the 1988/89 collaboration that produced the manga and the NES game? 2. If there is, would this be an obstacle to producing a current-gen Strider? I'm thinking of the current legal morass surrounding the Superman character, due to the Siegels and the Shusters and their lawsuit with DC/WB and all the twisted problems concerning ownership of Superboy and the version of Superman introduced in the 1938 issue of Action Comics, and wondering if Moto Kikaku would throw up a similar roadblock. 3. Is there even a big enough fanbase to support a current-gen Strider? What kind of numbers did Strider 2 do, back in 1999? I know it didn't even go to a second printing in the US, because all the copies of the NTSC version I've ever come across were mislabeled. 4. Putting all of the above aside, would the theoretical current-gen Strider be reintroduced the same way Bionic Commando and Street Fighter are (revamping an older classic game with HD graphics, then the full-fledged sequel)? 5. Was Yoshihiro Sudo of Studio 6 actually interested in producing a Strider 3 back in 2002 before the studio got shut down, or was Spong.com making things up? |

As much as I love a lot of the older Capcom titles, there's no Capcom game that I would like to see get a modern sequel more than Strider. Strider was a technological triumph for both Capcom and the Genesis, and it would be a shame for Strider not to appear any time soon.

I can't comment on any potential roadblocks, but I think Strider has enough juice to merit a next-gen sequel.
Here's a question for you guys though: Could a Strider in 3D recapture that same magic? Would it have to invent new magic? I'd love to see the giant mechanical Ape, or the politburo that turns into a giant robotic centipede w/sickle in 3d, but a lot of the best mechanics of the fights were very 2d-centric. I can already think of cool ways you could recreate that in 3d, but what do you think as Strider fans? best, Seth
Ask me about my beard. Or don't. It's cool either way.
