So we all decided on 2-D. Now will it should be on Hi-res sprite like Odin Sphere, Another type of HD cel chading or BC Rearmed style? Oh and It will be a stage sequence just like Strider 2 was or a visit stage and collect like the Strider for the NES (Minor the gameplay of cource) and BC Rearmed? |

I'm glad to see there's more people interested in a new Strider installment than just me. It brings warm feelings to my heart. I'm still not hearing anything that completely rules out 3D, though. Wall jumps? Prince of Persia handled those pretty well: just go to a side-view angle whenever chimney-jumping. Imperfect camera angles? Again, see Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. The nostalgia factor? A Strider sequel will be welcomed with open arms, full stop, as long as it's not Strider Returns. (And no one need worry about that coming back because Capcom doesn't own the rights to it. U.S. Gold/Tiertex does.) I like the idea of a Marvel Ultimate Alliance-style game, with Capcom characters. That would kick ass. It would also kick ass to have Strider 2 released on XBLA/PSN, but that would take some doing, I think. See, the PSone home port included a level that wasn't in the arcade version: Mission 00, Guyana Guaykinima Falls. That level was programmed for the Playstation's limitations, so if you want the complete game and you want it arcade-perfect, that level would have to be redone to get it up to par. In any case, I hope Capcom preserves the same resucitation cycle for Strider that they've used for Bionic Commando and Street Fighter: upgrading an old classic with new graphics and play modes, followed by a full-fledged sequel that takes advantage of current-gen technology. I'd settle for just the former, but I really, really, REALLY hope we get BOTH.

I'm really wanting to see a remake and I was upset to see Strider 2 only in japanese when it was first released. So I'm hoping to see a HD Strider.

Huh? Strider 2 wasn't Japanese-only. It was released in the US, for the PSone.

Just so you know, I'm not ignoring the questions in this thread... there are a few though that are just soooo esoteric that I'm not sure I could even find anyone still in the company who knows some of the answers much less whether I'd be allowed to share them even if I did. :)

Oh nice... people agreeing on things on an internet forum. How unusual. =P I kid... Anyways, we can only ask for the game to made, really. I mean, who really demanded for MM9 to be 8 bit? I'm pretty sure most of the demands were for a Classic Megaman game. Turns out that Inafune-san's idea of a "Classic Megaman game" is an 8 bit one. I'm totally fine with that. I'm just pointing out that we don't make all the decisions. We just influence them. I would personally like to see something along the lines of HD sprites, like you mentioned with the Odin Sphere example. BUT, I believe there are other creative ways to display a game. For example, it could be an engine similar to Bionic Commando Rearmed, but closer to actual hand drawn sprites. Actually SF4 gets really close. Now, all they would need to do is rework the SF4 engine to display a different kind of art, models, effects, etc. My personal opinion is that 2.5 platforming games work great as remakes. (SF4 aside, because the backgrounds are smaller)... But I feel that original games should be either one way or another. 2D or 3D, in this case. dreams...
EDIT: I found an example of something almost close to what I actually wanted to see in the next Strider game. http://www.gametrailers.com/player/43570.html It's Prinny: Can I really be the Hero? It just looks like a really nicely done 2D sprite-work... until you see things moving. Then you realize everything is 3D. But it's still done in a way that sometimes I forgot it was 3D. Until I decided to jump and attack, when the whole camera shifted to an angle. Anyways, my point is mainly the first part: being 3D but looking like 2D. I think that can be done.

well i think 3d graphs on 2d gameplay is the way to go. unless there was a "magical" camera for a 3d gameplay that could handle hiryu's speed and slashing combos w/o losing any of the action and making us dizzy.... i truly hope that strider isn't sitting next to breath of fire in the developers' plans. u_u |

Haha! I figured as much. I bet that goes for the other thread, too. Oh well, it was worth a shot.
Quoted for truth. As I recall, there was a very vocal contingent over on the SRK boards that didn't want Street Fighter to go 3D either. And now SF4 looks like it's going to be an instant classic the moment it drops. I think it's more a matter of translating the spirit of the game rather than the look, but I've gone on about that enough in this thread already. I like your ideas, Dubindoh. I also agree that, if they were to use an engine similar to SF4 or Prinny (or even Okami, though Capcom doesn't seem to care much about the future of its Clover properties), it'd work really well in a Strider sequel. I actually really like the look of that Prinny game quite a bit.

Strider 2 was a fine game. I'm just surprised that Capcom didn't follow with another game after it came out. Strider 2 created an incredibly responsive control system that just felt natural and made you feel like you were still in control. I think it's safe to say that I want more of the same thing.
