Maybe better but that doesn't mean you still cant create a fantastic
realistic looking game on the Wii, you can as RE4 has proven,

RE4 wasn't made on the Wii tech, it was done on the GC tech, thus that's not a good example of what the Wii can achieve as it wasn't made for the Wii, it was made for the previous Nintendo system so of course it can run on the current one, and it already looked good when it was first released and still looks good even in this next gen age, but that doesn't have anything to do with the Wii, because it's not like they completely redid the graphics for the Wii version or anything.

I dunno if it has been mentioned before on this thread. But base on what you guys are still talking about, I say it hasn't... So I would suggest that you peeps take a look at Fatal Frame's recent screencaps. Once you do, you'll agree with me that it's one of the games that will make good use of what the Wii has to offer in the graphix department.

It looks just as good as RE4 if not better...again, I'm talking about graphics here, not gameplay. But since SUDA 51 is involved in the project, I wouldn't worry too much about how it plays. Wink

the
problem is developers/publishers are too lazy/too cheap to invest the
time and effort to do so.

It's harder to make a good cartoony game then it is a realistic game. Realistic is really easy to do now with the Unreal 3 engine being used so much and so many games having the same look, thus everything has a standard now with realism, where as it's harder to do something really amazing with cartoony as there's no prefered style or set way of doing things and often times it's cartoony graphics that developers don't ever push far enough or get lazy with.

I agree with that. The director of Twilight Princess mentioned that it was harder to create the cartoony world seen in Wind Waker than the one they created in TP. Mainly because the graphics in WW were so stylized and unique looking.

E3 2009 in a nutshell: Motion Control is king (and has been since 2006)

"Next-Gen consoles (Xbox 360 & PS3) are simply that, what came "next". That is, they're merely a continuation of what came before. You play games the same old way, using a similar control scheme. New-Gen consoles (Wii) aren't required to use new technology to be new. They can use old technology but in a NEW way. And that's the difference between Next and New gen"--Meristation

I agree that art style has to be the primary consideration when making Wii games. Even Unreal Engine 3 is looking like crap these days with all the greasy surfaces, a Wii game would stand no chance.

It's things like Mario Galaxy, Zack and Wiki and Madworld that are held up as examples of good looking Wii games.

Stuff like Brawl and Diablo 3 can also work because of the sheer level of detail. They're not the most technically demanding games but they still look really nice

ps2 version was a little different, those graphics didn't look like gc and wii versions although gameplay was the same.

I really wanted to stay off these boards until E3 was over but I had to respond to these.

Compare the ratio of successful realistic GC games to successful cartoony GC games.

GC had a much better success rate then Wii in that regard, realistic games built from the ground up for the Wii aren't passing the grade yet.

Trying to use a game that was meant for the GC to support successful realistic Wii games doens't work due to not being originally intended for the Wii.

OK, you completely missed my point and went in an entirely different direction. I wasn't talking about the success of realistic/mature titles on the Wii but its ability to produce realistic games(tech wise)

RE4 wasn't made on the Wii tech, it was done on the GC tech, thus that's not a good example of what the Wii can achieve as it wasn't made for the Wii, it was made for the previous Nintendo system so of course it can run on the current one, and it already looked good when it was first released and still looks good even in this next gen age, but that doesn't have anything to do with the Wii, because it's not like they completely redid the graphics for the Wii version or anything..

You seemed to have missed my point as wellTongue out The point I was trying to get across in my reply to your initial post was that if the GC which has the same basic architecture as the Wii but weaker can produce a great looking realistic game like RE4 which still looks great even against current games ,the Wii should be able to do that and more.

BTW, I think REUC is a pretty good looking game as well Smile
