    New York Fight Club!

Friday, October 23, 2009, 12:45 AM EST [General]

OK SO....the first rule of fight club is...no I'm not THAT cliche'

But seriously, I'm not gonna lie, I have no interest in Street Fighter or TVC or any fighting games, I simply went to be a part of the community and meet Snow in the flesh (I also saw RagingDemon, awesome dude!)

Here is Snow doing a silly face

And one of him talking to Brian (PR guy) another awesome guy from Capcom

SO, I arrived on the scene at around 7:15, it took roughly an hour to get there since I live in NJ and traffic sucks.  Me and my friend proceeded to the back of the line, which was several blocks away, being laughed and mocked at how we would never get in.  Then at 7:30, Snow called me and told me to come to the front of the line to be let in! (I made sure to mock those who mocked me)

I was greeted by Snow and Seth, quite the humbling experience and proceeded to be introduced to our very own RagingDemon!!  I was like, " ZOMG ITS RAGINGDEMON I KNOW'Z YOU!!!"  Me and Raging hung out for most of my time there (I needed to leave by 9:30 so I was only there for 2 hours)

The building would only hold 250 people at a time, and there were 2 floors, but it was still pretty damn claustrophobic.

This is the main floor, you can see there are TV's with TVC or MVC2 or SF4 hooked up, using either controller OR fightstick btw.

This is the basement, where there was a DJ and was generally very hot and smelly, it got so crowded down there that people weren't allowed to enter until more people came up

The walls were filled with artwork from Capcom games, here is a nifty poster on one of the walls.

and a drawing on one of the walls (sorry for low quality and bad positioning, but you try and take a decent shot while being shoved by 5 people eager to kick some ass in TVC)

There was also free pizza and drinks!

Even managed to catch Kotaku as they secretly moved about the crowd (kinda hard to tell but thats Crecente behind this dude)

Media was going back and forth constantly during the whole event, it was quite an experience.

What surprised me the most was people's attitude.  At things like this, especially with such closed quarters and very low moving space, I expect people to be moderately disgruntled at times, but everybody was great!  It was just an awesome time, if you needed to get through the crowd, you kinda just put your hand on someone's shoulder and said excuse me, and people would make room for you.

Here is a vid I took standing near the entrance to the basement, I basically couldn't move so I had to hold my phone above everybody to show you just how insane it was.  (Sorry for the weird noise, my phone can't handle so much stuff going on so it scrapped the audio)

Snow took pics with me and Raging so be sure to look out for em!

I was on the live stream for a couple seconds, I wrote out *Bastion* on a plate and held it up next to my face, dunno if anybody saw it.  I went on the Ustream chat afterwards to answer peoples questions, it was an awesome feeling, actually interacting with the community.  Stuff like this is why Capcom>all over game companies.

Can't wait for the next NY Capcom event!!!

    Box o' Swag

Thursday, July 23, 2009, 02:37 PM EST [General]

I just got my Box o' Swag from Snow, and man, I couldn't be happier.

    It was like Christmas yesterday.

I heard my dog barking like crazy, meaning somebody was at the door, so my dad got it, I figured it was just the normal mailman, then he came to me and said, we got a package addressed to a..."Bastion"?

I immediately grabbed the box and begun viciously tearing it open (not really, but man, Snow used like mega super glue or sumtin)

And I was rewarded with this!

    Yea, thats alot of stuff.

You can see the MHFU t-shirt.

    Cute lil watermelon poogie.

MHFU guide book, pamphlet and trading card.

    Thats the card.

Bionic Commando field guide and harvey birdman games for the Wii and PSP.

    SF4 soundtrack

    RE soundtrack

Some...dogtag, dunno what its for/from.  Still cool though!

And last, but CERTAINLY not least, the Onimusha essentials tripple boxset.

I've wanted to play Onimusha for years, but never got around to finding all the games, this was prolly the best out of them all.

Why am I showing you this?  To rub it in your face?  Certainly not, to show how great a company Capcom is.  No other company has this kind of generosity, not only to its moderators/employees, but also to its fans.

Let me take this moment to thank Snow for this, this is more than I ever could have asked for.  YOU RAWK!

    Farewell...

Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 08:09 PM EST [General]

It is to my misfortune that I share upon you a story of loss.

My PS3 at first wasn't given the attention it has gotten in the past year or so, mainly because when PS3 came out there was virtually nothing for it.  But in recent months I have played nothing else (besides my PSP)

I recently wanted to play Overlord (great game) for my 360...and upon turning it on...it returns to me the Red Ring of Death...after being repaired for it roughly a year and a half ago.

No matter, I can't stand my 360 anymore anyway so I just shrugged it off and went out and bought Overlord for the PS3 along with a shiny new dualshock 3 controller! ^^

I played Overlord with much joy...however...that joy did not last.  About 5 hours into it, the audio died and upon the next load screen, the game froze.  I figured it must have overheated...man was I wrong.

According to the error code that was displayed on the screen the next time I tried playing, the blu ray laser reader is now broken.  Out of the blue.  No reason.  Dead.

I thought to myself, " No...thats impossible, I clean my PS3 once every week and never dropped it or anything of the sort"  but alas, tis true.

Everything else works fine, PSN, PSN games, PS2 games, PS1 games, movies (not blu ray).  But anything blu ray won't be acknowledge anymore.

I promptly called Sony's repair hotline, where I was greeted with someone who clearly dislikes their job and has no regard for peoples cares or concerns.  Due to the fact that my PS3 is beyond warranty (1 year warranty? F*ck you Sony, this crap can't happen in under a year without provocation) I was then forced to cough up $150 for them to replace it.

Upon waiting several days, what I call, " the PS3 coffin" has arrived...even the look of it is discouraging, shaped like a skeleton...

I gave my PS3 one last play...for old times sake...and then I put it to rest...

    Farewell...

Official Capcom Adhoc Party Tutorial Blog

Friday, May 22, 2009, 05:13 PM EST [General]

This is a tutorial on how to set up a Japanese PSN account in order to download Adhoc Party

Please do *not* send me messages regarding this tutorial.  If you have questions, post them on the tutorial thread in the Monster Hunter Unite section of this website.

Any messages sent to me via this website or PSN won't be read.

Note: Before you start any of this, know that the PS3 MUST be hooked up to your router/modem in order to Adhoc Party to function, it CANNOT simply use the wifi for internet connection.  You may need to go into the network connection option on the PS3 main menu and manually toggle a direct connection.

Note: You do not need to use this account in order to use Adhoc Party, just to download it, once it is downloaded, you essentially never need to use it again for our purposes.

Note: Sorry in advance for some of the last few photos, I was moving as I took them : /

Step  1.  At the Playstation Main Menu, select “Create New User” It may be any name, it doesn’t matter, for this faq, I am naming it “Capcom Tutorial”.

**Notice the Monster Hunter theme? XD**

Step 2.  Log in to the new account and go over to the PSN icon and select “Sign up for Playstation Network”

Step 3. Select “Create a New Account (New Users)” at the bottom and then hit continue

Step 4.  At this screen, be sure to select “Japan” as the country of Residence

Note: From now on, the rest of the procedure will be in Japanese

Step 5.  don’t bother fiddling with the top options, just go to the bottom one (birthday) and select any date starting from 1990 and below so as to avoid parental control issues.  Hit Next

Note: At the very bottom of the screen, the button on the right will now be referred to as the “Next” button

Step 6.  A screen with a large wall of text should appear, this is the license agreement, simply hit Next

Step 7.  This is personal information page.  The first textbox is for email address.  It doesn’t have to be real, as long as it has an @ and a .com or .net it will be fine, for this FAQ I will use blahhblahblah@fake.com

The 2nd text box is for a password, you don’t need to memorize this, don’t make it completely random as you must retype this in about 5 seconds but it doesn’t matter, you wont need this for any future reference, but it MUST contain at least 6 characters, combined of both numbers and letters, cannot have 3 characters being repeated one after another, it must not be the same as your sign-in ID or online ID.

3rd text box is confirm password, just type the same thing you just typed for the previous one.

Make sure to check the checkbox, this will save the password

Next is the secret question, choose anything

Next is the answer, any random letters will do

    Hit Next

Step 8. This is for your online ID, or your  “PSN” tag.  This is what people will recognize you as.  As I said at the start of this faq, we are ONLY using this ID to download Adhoc Party.  Once it has been downloaded, you can use your regular online ID (PSN tag) to play.  For this FAQ, I am making it CapcomAdhoc

If the name hasn’t been taken already, you should get this screen.  Hit OK

If you got anything different, change the name as it has already been taken.

It will now simply show you the online ID, go to the bottom and hit Next

Step 9. The first textbox is for a first name, just type random letters

Second textbox is for last name, again, randomness

3rd textbox is for gender, which is optional, so do as you wish, and hit next

Step 10. You should now be at a screen that looks like this

For the first box, simply type in FIVE (5) numbers, doesn’t matter which ones

The next textbox will activate a drop down menu **IMPORTANT** choose the 2ND OPTION

For the rest of the textboxes, just input random letters, it doesn’t matter

Step 11. You should now be here **IMPORTANT** DO NOT CHECK THIS BOX,  it will make you have to confirm the *fake* email we provided earlier, simply skip this screen, hit Next

Step 12. Congrats! If you are here, we made it! XD this is the final page, simply confirming all of the information, scroll all the way down and hit Next

Step 13. If you followed my instructions before and checked the box to save your password, then it should already be written in, sign into the new account.  You should now be in the Japanese PSN store

Step 14. Go to the 2nd to last option

    Select Adhoc Party

Select the first one (the 2nd one is a video of adhoc in action, we don’t want that, we wanna use it!)

    And commence download!

    W0o0o0o0oo0o0o0o0o0o0!!!

Congrats guys, you now have Adhoc Party and can play your multiplayer PSP games (namely, Monster hunter) online via your PS3!\

BUT! we are not finished yet

Now some things for setting up Adhoc Party

Firstly, like many japanese games, the "Circle" button is now select and the "X" button is now cancel, so be mindful of that

(first make sure the WLAN switch on top of the PSP is switched into the on position)

Now in order to "pair" your PSP with Adhoc Party, select the 3rd option

It will now begin scanning for any PSPs in range that are utilizing a wifi connection

While it does this, simply access any form of internet with your PSP, for example, I load up MHF2 and go into the online guild hall, as it does that, it will find the PSP and show you it has found it (It will show you the PSP's name, in my case, it is Bastion)

Once it has found your PSP, back on the main menu of Adhoc Party, select the first option, you will now be greeted to large "wheels".  These are *universes*, L1 and R1 will cycle through them and the left analog stick will cycle between each *world* within the *universe*

The official Capcom Monster Hunter selection is J50, though it is often full (limit is 32 people per world) so it often overflows into J51.  Once in a world, you may join a room by simply selecting one with the analog stick, hit "Circle" and choose the 2nd option.

Alternatively, should you wish to create your own room, select a vacant space on the ground and hit "Circle" and, again, choose the 2nd option.  You will then be able to choose the room name, subtitle and other various options, once finished select the bottom left option and voila! You have made a room!

Happy Hunting! Hope to see many of my fellow hunters online soon

Now, one final note.  In order for this to work, you PS3 MUST BE CONNECTED TO YOUR ROUTER/MODEM, it CANNOT simply use wifi, otherwise adhoc won’t work.
