    Top 10 Capcom Dreamcast Games

Wednesday, April 1, 2009, 04:17 AM EST [General]

Capcom was one of the most active publishers on Sega's amazing console, the Dreamcast. Old Capcom franchises received amazing updates and new franchises were born. Here is a list of my favorite 10 Capcom Dreamcast games.

    10. Vampire Chronicles - A great fighting game with a lot of options for different matches. You can have your character use the fighting system from any of the previous Darkstalkers games, making for some interesting maches. This game was only available in Japan.

9.Tech Romancer - This spiritual successor to Capcom's own Cyberbots, this game feature awesome giant robot action. Also, like many great Capcom Dreamcast games, Tech Romancer features a robust amount of unlockables to extend replay value. You could even download a mini-game to your VMU to unlock more points to buy content!

    8. Mars Matrix - Capcom published a lot of great shooters for the Dreamcast, including Giga Wing and Gunbird 2, but Mars Matrix shines as their finest shooter on the system. Intense difficulty and lots of unlockables will keep you coming back.

    7. Resident Evil: Code Veronica - This then-exclusive Dreamcast entry into the RE franchise pushed the series forward in terms of story and difficulty.

    6. Cannon Spike - A great shooter with loads of Capcom fan service. Take out wave after wave of enemies as Cammy, Mega Man, King Arthur and more. This classic begs for an update on XBLA/PSN.

    5. Capcom vs SNK - The presentation in this great game will make your forget all about the horrible copy and paste job Capcom did with the packaging (Literally just art from SFA3 and Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition tacked on the cover. What were they thinking?). Great match-ups and some of the best boss fights in a Capcom fighter. Also, you could link this game to Neo Geo Pocket Color's SNK vs Capcom. I know I'm one of like 10 people that actually did this, but it's awesome.

    4. Street Fighter III: Third Strike - I think that SFIII:TS is the greatest game ever made. I didn't get into in as much until after the Dreamcast, but the Dreamcast version was definitely a classic. The Dreamcast also saw a compilation of earlier versions of SFIII and a perfect port of Street Fighter Alpha 3.

    3. Marvel vs Capcom 2 - The lasting power of this novelty act is amazing. This game features a giant cast and loads of replay value to unlock everything.

    2. Project Justice - Capcom's best 3-D fighting game (until maybe, SFIV), Project Justice is incredible. This sequel to the classic, Rival Schools, feature a ton of story and unlockables on top of some truly great fighting action. It also features some of the best presentation of any Capcom game. A true classic.

    1. Power Stone 2 - The first Power Stone was incredible and put those four controller slots on the Dreamcast to work. The second installment added a ton of unlockables and great options for collecting and customizing items. Power Stone is incredible with 1-4 players. A better 4 person fighter has yet to come out. This is another game that would be a perfect fit for XBLA/PSN.

    SFII'HF 200/200 FINALLY

Tuesday, February 3, 2009, 04:11 PM EST [General]

    GAH! Finally!

I bought this game ages ago, and I finally got the last stupid achievement today.

You have to beat the entire game without losing a round. Unlike HDR, you can't set the game to one round, so you have to beat all of the world warriors 2 rounds each. Ken/Ryu are nightmares when the computer controls them.

It probably took me 75 tries over the course of year and a half.

    I used M. Bison.

I have 200/200 in SSF2THDR too, so now I'm all set to get 1000/1000 in SFIV!

    Gah!

    My Top 10 CAPCOM Games

Friday, January 30, 2009, 02:55 PM EST [General]

Here is a list of my personal favorite CAPCOM gems. What are yours?

10: Misadventures of Tron Bonne - Servebots rule and this super-fun, under appreciated classic proves it.

9: X-Men Vs. Street Fighter - My two biggest interests are comics and Street Fighter, so I nearly died when I saw this game at the movie theater when I was 11. I even loved the crummy PS1 port. I finally broke down and imported a Japanese Saturn system to enjoy this amazing game at home.

8: Mega Man 5 - Everyone rags on this game, but Gravity Man's stage rocks so hard. Plus it was my first Capcom game.

7: 1942: Joint Strike - I love Capcom shooters and I love all the support Capcom is giving to XBLA/PSN. The difficulty level is absolutely perfect and the achievements are fun. Plus I won free Capcom swag from a 1942 contest on this site!

6: Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo - Everything that rules about Tetris, now with mild animated violence. Absolutely addicting game that begs for a sequel with tons of new characters and fan service on XBLA/PSN

5: Resident Evil 4 - Easily the best game of the previous console generation, and the single greatest argument for the existence of wii's waggle controllers. Plus my girlfriend loves this game. Anything that gets your girlfriend excited about videogames is a plus in my book.

4: Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold - I have spent more time playing Alpha 2 than any other game ever made. I played the SNES port to death and when I finally got a PS1 this is the only game I played for ages. Gold added Cammy to the mix, which was awesome. One of Capcom's absolute finest games.

3: Cannon Spike - Gaming, as a whole, peaked for me on the Dreamcast. Sega and Capcom were making their best games in ages (maybe ever) and new Capcom titles were hitting stores every couple of months. It was the best time to be a Capcom fan (though now is starting to look really good too). This shooter is really fun and you can play as Cammy, Charlie, Mega Man, KING ARTHUR, BB Hood and more. This game NEEDS to hit XBLA/PSN with new controls (WOTB's 2 joystick system would be perfect).

2: Mega Man Legends - One of the finest pieces of escapism I've ever played. The world was alive with personality and everything had so much charm. The gameplay was really solid with fun boss fights.

1: Street Fighter III Third Strike - An absolutely perfect 1 on 1 gaming experience. Its steep learning curve and the poor handling of its US release may have turned off a lot of players, but this game has kept picking up steam since its release. The new characters are a blast to learn and the fighting system is perfect. Lazy shoto players had to learn new tricks because people could finally parry their tired fireball tactics. The player is given so many offensive and defensive options for every situation. This makes the guessing games between opponents endless. I really hope Capcom releases this for XBLA/PSN, HD Remixed or otherwise.
