4 legged fighter...  I used to draw a character I wanted to be in darkstalkers that was 4 legged.  An incubus like what the plot guide talked about, the kind with 4 legs.  Here's a sketch of him.

I don't  draw him anymore, since even if he could get into a new Darkstalkers, he's probably be too wide and just end up an  extremely easy crossup/infinty character like how Hauzer was in Capcom Fighting Evolution or Amingo in MvC2.  Oddly enough I never named him even through I made him up years ago.  I even made a moveset where he used his mouth on his stomach for bites/tounge lashes when he did light/medium kicks (heavy kicks used his tail) and spit acid from the mouth as a super like Iceman's artic attack.

Do you guys think the headless horseman from sleepy hollow a good candidate to add to the roaster?

The headless horseman is actually a British Isles fairy monster called a Dullahan.

a true Dullahan would be perfect, headless, carrying its head in its arms, using a spinal cord as a whip, and rides on a black horse or black carriage.

A spider-woman would be interesting, not sure on the centaur as people might accuse them of ripping of Motaro from Mortal Kombat.

So we do know four legged fighters exist.

The again the headless guy was done too by Battle Monsters (Headless Harn) but then again they also had a Frankenstein monster and some other generic freaks that didn't fit in any catagory, plus the game is pretty much forgotten now anyways.

I could see a Naga fighter (human torso, snake lower body), wouldn't have to have snake hair. Plus as a Naga it could give us a fighter from India.

Darkstalkers has stood out as having fighters from places others don't like Romania, Egypt, Australia, Canada, and Scotland *although Morrigan's backstory contradicts this origin unless she was born there but raised in Makai* and thinking about the same applies to Demitri, his bio says Romania but his backstory has him from Makai and banished to Romania.

and now the copy past I meant to put in this thread regarding game play elements.

do any of the fighters have a crouching dash?

if not there is a feature to add to a new game.

Darkstalkers always has been ahead of the game.

Air Projectiles (multiple angles), Air guards, guard revesals, pursuit moves, upwards projectiles, crouched walking, air dashes, super-jumps, flying, ect..

Surprised there would be no crouching dash for anyone.

Don't forget slasher-film villian (the last suitable standard human for a Darkstalkers game). They got plenty of new character types to work with.

Bishamon slashes a lot. If you want an American-styled slasher(Halloween, Friday 13th), I personally think Lord Raptor is pretty much that type of character.

From the movies I watched, the reason a Dullahan cut people's head was because he lost his head and want to take other's head to put back onto his neck. If a Dullahan is going to be in D4, his story may start with him starting his journey looking for his lost head. His winning post might has him cut off the loser's head, put in on his neck, doesn't feel right, throw the head away, move on to the next. If a Dullahan carries his head in his arm, the reason for him to attack people...? I don't know, maybe just for the fun.

There might be an easy way for capcom to create a centaur without making a whole new character. I remember in some of Huitzil's winning post, he stands with 4 legs. So maybe capcom only need to make a centaur mode for Huitzil.

For a naga, what is its different with a gorgon? In the myth, can a naga turns people into stones?

Crouching dash seems like a good idea, but for some characters(Lord Raptor and Rikuo), their normal dashes are already crouching dashes.

The greek equivalent to a Naga would be the lamia.

a gorgon was simply a hideous monster, Medusa in fact in the myths was humanoid, snakes for hair, tusk teeth, bulging eyes, discolored skin, and she even had golden angel like wings in many of the older traditions.

Medusa has multiple origin stories depending on the tradition, the more common one is she was one of three gorgon sisters, but Medusa was the only one that was mortal.

A Naga is a Hindu creature, upper torso of a human, lower body of a snake, often they were in fact demonic or divine messengers, beings greater than humans but less than gods and dragons. and no a Naga can't turn someone to stone, but they can control snakes, have incredible flexibility, and even fly in some cases with out wings, and very adept at the secrets of magic.

the Greek equivalent would be Lamia, and one other monster called the She-Demon. Lamia had the upper body of a woman, and the lower body of a snake, she ate human flesh, Hercules refused to take her to bed, so she attacked him, and he killed her (as I can recal off the the top of my head for that story).

Lamia would later for the greeks become the name for this type of monster in general, trade with India likely inspired them to expand on the story to make a race of monsters rather than one, or some may have viewed Lamia as one of these monsters.

Medusa with a Lamia/Naga body type we just have the movie (Clash of the Titans) to thank with it becoming commonly viewed that way today.

I think Darkstalkers fellows more a demonology than horror flick.  As I have never seen a bakeneko/nekomata (vaguely what those cat-women are based on), succubi or whatever pyron and jedah are in horror movies.  But then again the horror flick monsters were based on creatures in demonology.

But I don't see why he can make up his own monsters.

But I like to see a tengu (there is really only one japanese monster so far), A Nixe (pretty much a water spirit, like the yuki onna lured man to there deaths, like succubi but the nixe can change form) , banshee (we need a ghost in there lol), or a djinn (examples ifrit and marid)

not sure if the movie "Cat-people" or "Sleepwalkers" would count for cat-people in movies as they weren't bakeneko, one was were-leopards and the other hairless cat vampire things.

Also a succubus can change form, they become what you desire. In fact the most common thing for a succubus to do in folklore was to change genders. the succubus and the incubus according to some clergy who wrote those demonology books were one and the same, it would just change genders.

Also the succubus/incubus does have some horror movies, but they are mostly terrible b-movies, like "Succubus: Hell Bent" and the famouse one that was the only movie filmed in Esperonto "Incubus".

the succubus appears in a few horror based shows, only a brief mention on the show "Supernatural" which has the weakest monsters I have ever seen on any show about monsters. Buffy the Vampire Slayers mentioned a succubus once, but we never saw one,

we did see a Succubus on the show "Poletergeist the Legacy" one fell in love with a guy on the team and tried to abduct him and grant him eternal life, she was invincible apparently and the only way to stop her was with magic chains and trap her. Of course she was originally trapped in a cave by those chains, and at the end they just dropped her in a river...not sure how that was supposed to insure she never escaped again.

But in all the succubus is pretty rare to actually see, they get mentions often when refering to seductive women who use people, but seldom seen on screen.

I know of only three web-comics that have them (and not in a pornographic way), one is dead though "Succubus Justice"

succubus-justice.com/

the others are comedy as well, DMFA (AKA) Miss Mab: in which the main character Dan is an Incubus but he's also an Adventurer, its a weird furre world type of comic. the last is a new comic called Eerie cuties, which is monsters in school.

www.eeriecuties.com/

but yeah those last three things arn't really horror, horror.

I did mean more among the lines of a Amercian slasher film villian, but Lord Raptor doesn't really work too well in that mindset. I usually associate the slasher villian a usually being silent, calculating, and with abnormal abilities compaired to the human norm. I was thinking of the character as being one who does not get powers from supernatural means like Bishamon and Lord Raptor have.

I just figured Darkstalkers can support at least one more standard human type seeing how Baby Bonnie Hood covers the "dark anti-hero" role but we do not have a horror movie slasher villian who can fit it nicely(especially seeing how he can be a partly comedic character. We could see this character freaked out by encountering Darkstalkers for the fiirst time).

If there was a new sequel what would the story be like? Im guessing Jedah wants to possess the power of Morrigan+Lilith+Belial to rule the entirety of the universe. So instead of reviving the Majigen he decides to revive Belial. He of course needs more souls to revive Belial so he conjures up the usual Makai to help him along. If there is a new enemy (a new boss character) replace him with Jedah where applicable.

Morrigan/Lilith/Belial: Fighting to save their household and the Makai.

Demitri: Perhaps (like Boxer in SF4) he initially aids Jedah but then betrays him only to get closer to Morrigan.

Q Bee: The souls of the opponents she defeats are used to revive Belial and in turn for her assistance Jedah promises her the opportunity to populate the universe.

BB Hood: Jedah being the #1 most wanted demon has a huge bounty on his head.

Rikvo: His newly formed clan has seen mysterious disapperances likely due to Jedah's revival.

Sasquatch: To become the new elder of the Bigfoot tribe he must defeat Jedah.

Felicia/Lord Raptor: Jedah offers them a huge music career but he intends to use their popular music to hypnotize the Makai/Real World.

Donovan: After Anita's disapparance Donovan wonders the Earth searching for her. He believes Jedah/The Darkstalkers know her whereabouts.

Anita: Little-known to Donovan, Anita was killed by BB Hood when she tried to kill a group of demons. Seeing her purity and sacrifice God offfered her angel like powers. She has never tried to contact Donovan because she knows how he reacts (kills) to "Darkstalkers".

Phobos: His brother robots have come back to life but they quickly ran out of batteries/power. He intends to use the raw power of Belial to revive his brethren and return them to their home world.

Bishamon: His wife has come down with a terrible curse and has fallen ill. Though he is free from Hannya he wishes to use the power of the armor to erase her curse. He has heard of an amazing fallen angel that may help him out. His ending should involve him meeting up with Anita and her helping him.

Anakaris/Pyron: Wishes to defeat Jedah to become supreme ruler. They could use something nicer....

Marionette/Shadow: Jedah wishes to use their possession powers inorder to capture and control fused Morrigan. They also help Jedah collect souls. (Q Bee, Shadow and Marionette become the Boxer, Sagat, Claw type characters for Jedah)

Gallon/Hsien-ko/Victor: ? Kind of empty here.

Bishamon's wife falls ill? dude she's already dead, she's a ghost. Bishamon was kept "alive" for centuries by Hannya and Kien.

LoL.

Also Jedah wouldn't want to revive Belial, Belial would just Kill Jedah for poseing a threat to his Makai, which he views as part of his own body.

Likely stories:

Demitiri: After defeating Jedah Dohma, the other noble houses and his own hous have no choice but to accept Demitri back in Makai. Of course he wont be satisfied with that, and challenged Morrigan again, as he has been doing for some time. Maybe he'll sponser a tournament...although that might be stepping on Street Fighter toes a little for fans.

Jon Talbain: While in Jedah's realm, so close to Makai, he could sense other energies simular to his own, he sets out into Makai to find them. Likely cause some conflict if he encounters the Kreutz clan, the clan his father came from. Some nice backstory probabilities with that one.

Victor: Emily has revived Victor using some intense electrical energy, but Victor's memories are all messed up, and he sees Emily sleeping while she was waiting for him to come to. Mistakes her for still being dead, and heads out again to find a new power source to try and revive her. A funny ending probable for this one as he comes back empty handed, but is surprised to see her alive, and both are happy if abit confused.

Raptor: With both Ozom and Jedah out of the picture, he proclaims himself the head of the Dohma clan, but before the Dohma elders *maybe some little slime monsters* accept him he must prove his worthyness in combat against the other Darkstalkers.

Morrigan/Lilith: united as one, they have become so insanely powerful that Morrigan now finds all her battles boring, and has been reality hopping to try and find someone strong enough from another netherworld or human world to entertaine her. She's back and now and gets a brilliant idea, split with Lilith, and as two people enter Demitri's tournament, or what ever, just for fun.

Anakaris: The population in his kingdom is getting too big for it, so he needs to expand. Perhaps spread into that other dimension he found out about thanks to Jedah, and is now trying to conquer part of the demon world for himself.

Felicia: she's a nun now, and a singer, but while in Makai she felt more at home than she ever felt before, something about there felt familiar but she can't place it. So she goes back, and goes into the real Makai to find out what she can, maybe something connected to her mysterious past from when she was left at the monestary as a baby.

Bishamon: The armor and sword have once again broken free of the seal. Bishamon feels he must sacrifice himself to control it, and "dawns the armor once more, and defeat it from with-in" and homage to the OVA right there. Bishamon has also learned while doing this that the armor and sword once belonged to someone in Makai. Taurus Drey, and Bishamon wants to seek him out to learn what he can, anything that will help him stop Hannya and Kien for good.

Rikuo: While he was away, he learned the name of the one who destroyed his kingdom, Pyron. He feels its his duty to bring justice to this monster for the honor of all those who died. (set up a simular thing here that Guile had with Bison): As a note the original game's story had Rikuo after Pyron for this reason, but this conflict never came to anything.

Sasquatch: He once again has that world conquering ambition, and feels that the colder parts of Makai should become their paradise.

Huitzil: the robots have re-activated, all to protect Cecil, one unit however malfunctions as it sees the contradiction of trying to protect the local people, this specific person, and destroy anything else. The memories of the destroyed unit tell them the biggest threat is not from Earth but from Makai. They send the strongest unit, especially built for this mission, to conquer Makai so the people they choose from Earth will have a safe home.

Pyron: had dismissed the Earth, and Makai. But seeing Makai from high above, and how it looks like a giant fantastic eye, decides that this world would be gorgeous amongst his collection and seeks to defeat its greatist warriors. (a premise that could help bring the other nobles into the story to defend their homes)

Donovan & Anita: need to be older now. Donovan darker, more vampiric. and Anita older. Donovan has fled into Makai so he wont harm humans, and Anita gone after him to try and restore his humanity.

Hsien-Ko & Mei-ling: they have regained their memories of their past life. The curse on them effects the very soul, so they could be reborn a thousand times and always become Chiang-Shi. They learn their mother's soul is still in darkness, trapped in the shadow world beneath Makai. They transform once again to save her soul, and venture in Makai.

Jedah: he fakes his own defeat by Demitri. He realizes that his plan was faulty, something was amiss, the soul-bees couldn't be trusted, the head of the Aensland clan and her other half reuniting harms his chances, and for some reason the fetus of God has awakened on its own despite not having any souls in it that he put there and vanished. So he secretly heads to try and find it, as he needs a vessel if he is going to unite all the souls into one body.

BB Hood: she got stuck in Makai after the issue with Jedah. She is now a wanted serial killer who is collecting parts of her victims (to sell on the black market back on Earth) she is trying to find a way to open a door between the worlds as having access to Makai would give her an edge over her competition as a dark hunter. She knows that despite the stories of some un-passable gate that Morrigan and others come and go from Earth on a regular basis.

Q-Bee: Jedah is gone, the Dohma lands are in conflict. she feels her kind should be in charge, and swarm, and multiply over Makai, and Earth. Its an invasion of the soul bees.

Marionette: has a secret, she was just toying before, posseing dolls to fight. She is really a member of one of the major Makai clans, perhaps even Voshtal (honestly I suspect this for some reason), and with everyone fighting over control of Makai she wants to play too, and play with some deadlier toys and powers than dolls this time.

*In the end I suspect the likely plot would involve control over Makai, and focus in Makai. the scenarios I hypothesised above are based on past history, and easier ways to get the characters to confront one another and have reason to.
