Seeing as Darkstalkers is one of my top favorites.. I'd love to see a new polished Darkstalkers.. but I'm sorta afraid if it were done (especially in 3D) that it would not be done in a way that would satisfy my tastes.  Maybe I'm too picky but I think the art-design for a Darkstalkers 4 would require even more care, attention to detail and technical know-how than SF4.. it also requires some brilliant character design ability.  Are you up to the challenge, Ono/Capcom?  Anyone got Bengus' number?  I think you'd better give him a call.

I disagree with you there. With the outcome of SFIV, I'm very satisfy with the level of details that the artists and modelers have put in that game. With all the eyes poping graphics, from facial expressions  to all the muscles movements,  even tears rolling down from Dan's face. I think 3D graphics have come a long way since the EX series :).

I really have the confident in Ono, if he gets to be a producer on Darkstalkers, I'm sure he will do so many incredible stuff.

I'm very positive that Darkstalkers 4 will be even more polish than SFIV, because SFIV is the first game using the new engine, therefore, Ono and his team made some mistake along the process and learned from it. Second time is the charm :).

Capcom's still got a bunch of talented artists wokring for or with them. If not Ikeno (SFIII and IV) we can always get Shinkiro.

Besides, I'd love to see the Darkstalekrs aesthetic translated into 3D. It would be a graphical tour deforce as well as an awesome game.

I support a new (or remixed) Darkstalkers game!

I agree with what you're saying in terms of building on the experience of SFIV, however I still don't have confidence that they'd do it justice mainly in the character design department.  The new characters in SFIV don't appeal to me very much actually.  I may change my tune when I get to play SFIV for a while though.. so I'll reserve further judgement.

BTW- As far as I can tell there is no actual muscle flexing done in SFIV.  It's simple weighted meshes like usual.

Man I would boycott the game from day1 if Shinkiro was the main artist on it.  If Edayan is still there I'd hope he'd be involved since he's been on Darkstalkers for a while.  Bengus(CRMK) would be ideal but I think he left the game industry from rumors I've heard.  I think it could be done well.. I'm not sure if Ikeno would be the right guy for the job.. I think his character designs are somewhat weak, personally.. and that's one of the most important things in a fighting game, especially one like Darkstalkers.

The other thing on my mind is: How would this be better than Vampire Savior?  3D graphics don't automatically make it better.. and I'm someone who does 3D for a living.  If it's just a sequel.. then the added characters would have to be the main draw.. and maybe some revisions to the game system?  This game doesn't have the same purpose of reinvigorating fighting games or bringing the SFII hoard of fans back.. so I wondering what the draw would be?

Sorry I'm sorta playing devil's-advocate here... I would definitely buy a new Darkstalkers if it were well-done.

a thought just occured to me, a Darkstalkers 4 may be the only way to get Morrigan a new fighting game sprite/model. Other chances occured before for a new one, but were avoided, may just be coincidence.

SNK vs Capcom SVC chaos: unlike Capcom vs SNK, Morrigan wasn't in this game, instead it had Demitri, the sprites were all new, done for the SNK style I supppose, had she been in it she would have a new sprite.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom: a fully rendered sprite, but not really new.

only two games may not be enough for a pattern, but it is interesting.

strangest thing is though it seems the games arn't as popular as their characters in this franchise.

Wasn't her "sprite" in TvC an all new 3D model?

I heard they had fully rendered her old sprite, like drawing over it to make it look better kind of deal. But I can't say for certain, I know some of her attacks are done via new sprite/3-D animation.
