It's fairly okay in my opinion but many have found it redundant and repetitive in gameplay and especially the plot.

Don't let Devil Kings spoil it for you.  The SB games are great fun and stand apart from the DW games.  I'm not exactly sure what changes they made to the domestic version other then names and I think the pallet was darker but the import version is really good.  If you really don't like DW type games AT ALL then it aint for you.  If you DO like that formula, Id suggest you import SB Heroes 2 for Wii, SB1/2 for PS2, SB Battle Heroes for PSP should give you a proper taste of what it's all about.

Also, the fighting game is alot of fun casually and the Anime is airing in Japan right now and is up to Episode 4 at this time.  It's a perfect adaptation of the game series bundled with awesome fight scenes.

Check it out.

I liked Devil Kings (SB) a lot.  I always liked the concept of Dynasty Warriors, but the game itself was always missing something that I feel like DK was able to find.  Maybe it's just the Capcom character and level design, but I felt like it had everything that DW was (and still is) missing.  I didn't put as much time into it as I would've liked- there must've been a lot of good releases around that time- but I always intended to come back to it.  I hear the new PSP release is doing very well in Japan and I'm hoping for a US release soon.  I'd play the crap out of it on PSP, for sure...

*fingers crossed*

I'm a fan of dynasty warriors but I liked sengoku basara's style a lot more... haven't tried Devil Kings (NA) version but from what I hear it's really horrible compared to the JP version... which is qutie awsome!

In case anyone doubted the popularity of Sengoku Basara (Devil Kings) in Japan, here's a photo of the energy drink and Basara branded rice...

The game's fanbase is apparently made up of a lot of females, too.

As for the changes Devil Kings made, it made quite a few. Added Priming attacks (triangle button), changed the difficulty to make it harder, like our Easy is the Japanese normal, our Normal is the Japanese hard, etc. Some playable characters were cut out and made NPCs only. Some moves and their commands were changed around. Localization is almost completely unlike the original.

The game was actually edited for America by Capcom Japan. A producer there thought Sengoku Basara released as-is in the US would be called a Samurai Warriors clone, so they changed as much as they could about the storyline and characters, and some facets of gameplay like I listed above.

Pizza Hut in Japan is delivering specialty Basara pizza to commemorate the new SB anime being released on DVD the first of July... so says the box.

But it did not work.  People still relate it to samurai warriors.  Is that a bad thing?  I say no.  What wrong with people saying it's like samurai warriors?  In fact it's about time a company competes with koei and I think capcom has the product, talent, and ability with DEVIL KINGS.

Honestly, koei is pratically competing with themselves at the moment with the 30 plus titles of the series.
