Hence, in spirit. Didn't say it played exactly like it, but the game was what 3D platformers were like at the time, fetching stuff and the like, yet maintained a similar GnG play style even in that removed of a situation.
I borrowed a workmates PSP for two weeks just to play it. It's okay for a handheld job, albeit not on par with SGNG and DC. What the series needs is a full blown "Wario Land: Shake It!" style 2D installment on the Wii. Wario moved 700K units already. First, I'm very curious to know where you read that Wario moved that much. I'd figure if it sold that well, it wouldn't have been 20 bucks at Gamestop during that sale earlier in the year. Or maybe it moved quite a bit more when it dropped to that price? Second, Wario is a game made for all people, not just the hardcore... so any sales of that game I'd say you might be looking at half at best for a new 2D GnG. Third, Demon's Crest and GnG can't be compared. I'd be totally down for a new Demon's Crest... but as I said earlier... Fourth, the PSP game is great. I'm not sure why you would dismiss it so easily. Did you beat it? Because I know I didn't... got to the end and haven't (and mind you I've had it since it released) gone back for all of the parts to really beat the game. Even with that roadblock, I still loved the game, and it's really quite a spectacle on the PSP.If you didn't like it as much as you wanted to that still doesn't make it "not a proper sequel". It's not like it did to GnG what Streetwise did to Final Fight... Not to say a new GnG wouldn't be cool, but there are so many IPs that haven't had any sequel in the last 10 years, or any GOOD sequel in some time, such as Final Fight being the latter and Captain Commando being the former. |

If I could get a new Darkstalkers, and remakes of the classic Clock Tower games (wonder if Capcom got the rights to them when they purchased the series?), I would be a happy man.
Want: Darkstalkers to return in the not to distant future. Yeah, that would be great. Please?

Grinding and tiresome, yes - but that's not the G'n'G I grew up with though, which was rather enthralling and awesome
700K worldwide is the number that vgchartz is tracking.
Sounds good to me nevertheless.
That's like saying X-Wing and Tie-Fighter can't be compared. DC just switched the viewpoint to the side of the monster. Of course it plays different because Firebrand can hover and stuff, but it's the same kind of dedicated and pure genious game design.
There you are, same problem here. If you and I can't be bothered to go through it again in order to collect every missing bit, it can't be that good. I had no problem going through SGNG twice or complete DC up to the full end sequence...
That not, but I won't ever accept a handheld game as a proper sequel...
My, just different taste then. Personally I wouldn't mind if those never saw a sequel at all |

For Cybergoth (quotes seem to be broken or something) First off, Vgchartz is not in any way an official site to track anything with. Lot's of games sales data has been false from that site. I wonder how well a GnG game would sell on the 360/PS3 but from a sales standpoint... you have to look at what a company like Capcom would expect out of it. 350K still sounds like it might be pushing it, especially for a download only title. I get where you are going with Demon's Crest being similar to GnG because they are well made, but the games are still very different. It's like saying that Castlevania SOtN and Rondo of Blood are similar... and they aren't really despite being based on the same mythos and being designed by the same guy even. About the PSP Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins: I didn't beat it again because I was in school at the time and could barely be bothered to truly finish anything, and the endless wave of new games keeps coming out without much of a time to breath again.. it has nothing to do with the quality of the game, which I said, I loved. I will one day soon though. Not accepting a handheld game as a true sequel is just straight up ignorance. A good game is a good game regardless of what platform it is on, but in your ideal world I'd have you answer these questions. So New Super Mario Bros. isn't a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. series because it's on the DS? What is Contra 4? Is it NOT the sequel to Contra 3 despite the dev team going out of their way to go back to the old school sprites/weapons etc.? All of the new Castlevania games in the vain of SotN come out on the DS and the new one coming out on the 360/PS3 wasn't even branded a CV game until this past E3.. so that makes it more of a real sequel than the handheld ones because it's on a console? MGS Peacewalker isn't the next MGS game... even though Kojima said "consider it MGS 5"? Valkyria Chronicles 2 isn't the true sequel to the PS3 original? Chinatown wars is every bit the GTA game as any of the others. Metal Slug 7 anyone? Hell, to go back 15 years, Link's awakening on the Gameboy is a real sequel to A Link to the Past. Metroid 2 is canon and referenced in the intro to Super Metroid. Vice versa on the same system, Super Mario Bros. 2 wasn't even a Super Mario game until the characters were changed to Mario and his pals. Handheld doesn't mean the game has to be any less than it's console counterpart, especially when the consoles in general, the SNES/NES/Master System/Genesis/Arcade are far inferior (from a hardware perspective) to the current handhelds. The PSP is a mini Dreamcast, and the DS is a mini PSX/N64 hybrid. That's like saying Bionic Commando on the NES isn't a true Bionic Commando game because it didn't come out in the arcade, where the real one was. But yet a couple of decades later and the arcade game is not the game referenced for the "re-armed" edition. Same thing with Ninja Gaiden, where they altered the series dramatically on the Xbox from the NES counterpart, which is considered the true Ninja Gaiden anyway over it's arcade brother.

Well, true. There isn't any official site for such info though, so vgchartz is as good as it gets.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
... I think you're getting my point of view by now...
Handhelds are not the real thing. Their screens suck, their tiny buttons suck and they give me headaches and backaches. At best they're a temporary surrogate for long travels or good for a quick round of Tetris on the toilet...
Bionic Commando on the NES was a lot better than the Arcade. Don't get me started on download-only abominations though - as a video games collector I totally despise them. |

1. Clocktower A real Clocktower game. I mean Clocktower 3 was enjoyable and I liked it but I felt like it strayed away from what the original Clocktower games where. I mean where the hell did all the magic stuff come from? I mean the game was much more frightening when your character couldn't fight back. Also bring back the Scissorsman! Those two Scissor siblings can't compare to him. If they don't plan to continue the series then maybe a remake of the original Clocktower for PSN and XBLA? 2. Onimusha One of the few reasons I loved the PS2. Onimusha for me was a great adventure game with a great storyline and great gameplay. If it was brought back for the current gen then I can see it doing pretty well. They could do a direct sequal to 3. It could tell the storyline of what Samnosuke does right after 3. Though I know 3 was the suppose "last" part with Samanosuke as the main character it would great to play another game with him as the lead. 3. Rival Schools A fighting game that blew my mind away from PS1 all the way to Dreamcast. Rival Schools was like Street Fighter except with a whole bunch of teens fighting for their school. Though the storyline wasn't the best I would still like to know what happened to Kyosuke after Project Justice. Also playing Rival Schools with SFIV graphics would be a dream come true... for me at least :p 4. Dino Crisis A game like Resident Evil but with Dinosaurs? It did pretty well in my opinion until the dreaded DC3. If brought back they should use the over the shoulder gameplay like RE4/5. It would fit very well with Dino Crisis. Just don't take it into space again haha leave the dinosaur fighting on Earth. |
