Seems Compile Heart likes the NIS style of post/secret stage cut-scenes. Its a homage to them using Darkstalkers. The Darkstalkers as a note are very simular to Disgaea characters so it feels about the same.

The scene relates to a common post/secret stage gag in Disgaea and other NIS games where the characters argue over who is the main character, often with cameo characters from past games. These usually involve Overlord Laharl, Demon Lord Etna, and or the cameo only character Asagi. the Darkstalkers make a nice fill-in

That was amusing.  I haven't played Cross Edge yet due to my only having a Wii at this time, but its my radar once I get a PS3 early next year, if only for the Darkstalkers characters.  The best part was when Lilith said that Morrigan looked old, and everyone got the "!"s over their head (except for the one clueless person with the "?") and then they all started walking away (except for Jedah who just kinda disappeared...he didn't even make it a flashy disapearance :>)  The ensuing goodbyes, and Lilith's confusion as to why everyone is so serious were great too.

Yes I did see those! Donovan becomes greater and greater to me every time I see him :3

haha, told you people in the other thread that firebrand and tessa would fit pretty good in DS, such as how Cody and Guy fit in SF

and if we have another Darkstalkers game, I hope to see more scenes like the ones in cross edge :P
