I'm excited about this.
Tekkaman Blade? Far out I would love to see those characters in a Capcom crossover.

I really feel like Street Fighter is coming back big now, not only with a sequel but with crossover and sidedish games also.. this is going to be great!

Hope the portraits are drawn with nice chunky 80's anime line art lol.

And what you think this project will be easy or something?

Because an anime studio doesn't produce games, thus you're not going to run into problems like the two companies not being able to decide who gets to publish the game in various regions, which was why Namco X Capcom wasn't released in the US (Namco and Capcom couldn't come to agreement) then when you deal with someone like Marvel or Disney (in the case of Kingdom Hearts) who have an image to uphold and want things done their way and also want a large chunk of the profits you run into alot of tension.

Take for example Kingdom Hearts. Even though it's developed by Square and all the original content for the game is created by Square, Disney owns the name "Kingdom Hearts" as well as any and all original content created for KH, meaning that characters like Sora, Riku, Kairi, etc, are all Disney characters. It also means that if Disney chose to, that Disney could give the franchise to another developer, and guy behind KH (Tetsuya Nomura) has talked about how difficult it can be dealing with Disney (who canceled the KH anime series just as it was begining production) and how much of a struggle it can be to something so simple. Like in the first KH game, Disney was very set against Nomura showing Mickey in the game at all, and after alot of back and fourth between the two they allowed Nomura to use him, but only in a single scene and even then there were arguements about how that should be handled.

I mean if they are gonna go for a big time Cross Over, why not finish Sammy vs Capcom or do another CFJ, Capcom vs SNK,
or something like that?

The Sammy Vs Capcom project fell through when Sammy merged with SEGA, and SNK wasn't happy with the end result of the VS series given that Capcom Vs SNK (1) originally started out as a joint development game of which there was alot of arguing between the two teams about how things should be done in terms of gameplay, and things got worse when SNK had to drop out of the development due to the bankrupcy of the company, leaving Capcom to finish the game the way they wanted to and no longer had to listen to any input from SNK. Then SNK got upset at Capcom for Capcom rushing/forcing them to do SVC: Chaos as SNK was legaly bound to do at the time, but considering how SNK had to rush through it to meet their contract deadline, they weren't exactly happy with the situation.

It doesn't come across to you how overly complicated these things can be, but they are and the bigger the companies the worse it is, not to mention I only touched on a couple aspects of what I talked about.

Another big manga/anime wise they could've did was Shonen Jump Vs Capcom. If that would've happen, sales would've went way WAYYY up when they released it on consoles.

^ Shonen Jump was the first Anime corporation I thought of. Shonen Jump vs Capcom probobly was something they considered but couldn't get. The thing is the name Tatsunoko is unknown probobly everywhere but Japan. This game most likely wont come out here.

The problem there is that one the Shonen fighting game rights are already owned by the developers of the (Shonen) Jump Superstars games, and two the game wouldn't be released in the US for the same reason the Jump Stars games weren't released in the US.

Just a point when it comes to distribution rights, this could be released outside Japan so long as all the distribution rights are held by Capcom of all included anime titles, considering I doubt a lot of them have been lisenced games with the exception of Speed Racer.

I'm not sure how it works though, Marvel games have been coming from EA and Activision at the same time, and EA has the rights to The Dark Knight while Midway are making MK VS DC...

Legal stuff is overly complicated...

Basically how that works is that Midway has the DC Fighting Game license, the way Capcom once had the Marvel Fighting Game license, which means they can use those characters, but only in a fighting game.

EA has the Batman movie license, meaning they can make Batman games as long as they are based solely on the current movie franchise.

And note while all that makes sense when put it out that way there are other bizzare legal complications, like with DC (not sure if this goes for Marvel as well) just because a company may have the rights to use Batman in something like a fighting game or Justice League type game/show doesn't mean said company can use Batman's villians (Joker, etc) as well. That's a whole other set of rights, or you need to have the Batman rights in whole in order to do that, and even then sometimes there are complications, like in The Batman (the current animated) series they weren't allowed to use Scarecrow or Ras Ah Ghul (sp?) as they were the villians in Batman Begins at the time.

Another interesting tidbit. The Shonen Jump (DS) games aren't allowed to use voices, music, or sound effects from the anime series in which those characters appear as all those aspects belong to the animation studio (so like in the case of Dragon Ball, all those aspects would be TOEI property) and speaking of that, TOEI and Madhouse would be great companies to have the rights in terms of game(s)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toei_Animation
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madhouse_%28company%29

So obviously things are a jumbled mess when it comes to legal rights.

I will not get my hopes up again. Just because there is art and talk doesn't necessarily mean its going to be.

There was talk of Sammy Vs Capcom because it was a officially announced game, however it was never reported that production of the game was stopped when SEGA and Sammy merged.

As for the artwork, it's fan art.

I hope Capitan Commando and Jin Saotome make it into the game. Both of them already act SO MUCH like Sentai / Mecha heroes that it'd be a shame not to see it. Casshern VS Jin would be so awesome! :) And an updated Captain Commando would also definately rock. I hope they are as imaginative as they where in the MvsC days, where even the odd character like the Legendary Wings girl (something Heart, right?), or Son Son, showed up...

This is exactly what I like to see. None of that "Lets see if the market wants fighters...." talk from before. They are taking some initiatve, by trying to pump energy into the market themselves.

And with the whole X Edge thing... it's great to see the massive character line-up of Capcom games being used.

Now if only they put a Bionic Commando chara in there, too...

(And you don't want me to go on a tangent about how AWESOME Tekkaman would be.... I'm holding back, really.)

There was an old 2D fighting of Tatsunoko in the PSone by Takara. It features the anime opening of the characters you select in the story mode.

There are now screenshots of the game on Famitsu.com.

Looks really good.

I actually happened to own Tatsunoko Fight for PS1 at one point; didn't like it that much. There weren't enough moves and characters in the game for me, but it was pretty cool as far as company-based games go.

Looks awsome! Love the MVC-style abilities the SF characters have. The 2.5D character models look more hand drawn than SFIV's. Whose developing the game?

That's a different situation. CFAS had immense backlash from the beginning. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is mostly getting praise right now (and occasional shocked remarks from those who still can't believe it's happening).

I haven't seen much disdain for the game so far except for those who don't like the Tatsunoko characters. :p The rest of the feedback has been pretty positive.

It would be funny if in the intro to the game they did something like what they did with Capcom vs. SNK. You know, the whole "everybody rumored, nobody believed, but it's true!" thing. Except put "nobody rumored, heck, nobody really thought about it, but it's happening anyway!"

:p

Regarding the Famitsu pics...

-Wow, the "Character Artwork" on the page, as far as I can tell, are actually the 3d renders. That's pretty impressive. Instant "you nailed the characters!" here, no problems with hands or proportions looking ugly, like with early SFIV.

- Man, Ryu's Shoryuken looks pretty ugly there, lol. Lack of dynamic cloth  makes the Shoryuken look bulky and odd. I don't like his hurricane kick either... All the other moves look pretty solid, however.

- Those longer bodies... I'm so used to the SFIV and SSFIITHDR art now, that seeing Ryu with legs that long is kinda... odd. Chun Li, though... no, no problems there:)

- The backgrounds look pretty basic, texture and polygon wise. Very... Dreamcast, really. (Which is no problem for me, personally. Almost a bonus!) Really makes you appreciate how great SFIV's BGs are.

- Casshern and Ken/G-Force guy look great! Tekkaman Blade and Jin next, please! XD
