To be honest, I'm not the die hard RPG fantatic I once was.  The genre just got too stale.  Lately they have breathing new life into the genre and i'm looking forward what else Squarenix's  Team Ivalice and Tri-Ace, NamcoT, Camelot, NIS and the rest of em' have in store for us this comming year.

Dragon Quarter was pretty good game.  You just have to get past your initial reaction and understand what Capcom tried to do.  I really hope this rumor comes to be true, but I gotta say as long as I get a quality BOF game I'll be happy.

This thread needs to be made into a sticky like the Final Fight thread. AND we need a Breath of Fire 6. Why don't Capcom come out with another one? If they don't think it's gunna sell well, then come out with a downgraded version for the Wii, like they did with Megaman 9. So us "few" hard core fans can have another to play.

Another thing, it's nice that Camelot is helping make the new BOF but it would have been nice if they could buy back the Shining Force series from Atlus and SAVE the series from those butchers. Atlus SUCKS! The only games they got going for them are Persona and Orge battle. I absolutely resent the fact that they own the series now and have been turning one of my favorite RPGs into a pile of crap!

Nothing set in Stone yet, but Camelots wants and is willing to ressurect the franchise, but its somethin that Capcom would have to give the go on, but if it happens im 110% sure it'll be a DS installment which would be fine with me, and the sticky, im sure we could ask when it becomes more of hot topic, so keep postin to keep it alive.

You know, I posted a pretty lengthy blog about Breath of Fire on my Capcom-Unity blog, AND on this MB, but no one has said a thing. I've even posted it in a few different places, including dragon-tear.net. It's really sad how indifferent BoF fans are; I mean, hell, I wrote a 19 page paper on the series, and I absolutely despised three of them. Surely, the true fans of the series can do better?

I agree it dissapoints me that we have 11 members in the BOF group and nobody contributes, I went to Dragon-tear also( I used to be a regular there) and asked for there support, but no luck. I would like to keep this thread alive but as things look idk, If we were more persistent it could help BOF return....

breath of fire is my favorite jrpg series. obviously dragon quarter was a departure, but i enjoyed it. i grew up absolutely obsessed with BoF and BoF2. BoF3 was a major boost because it was a classic and altogether perfect for its time. BoF4 had the silkiest, most enjoyable animated sprites in the series. it was pretty much like Street Fighter 3 in terms of fluidity and frames. i didnt like the overworld map (which resembles Final Fantasy Tactics a lot), but thats my only complaint. it was alright but i like walking from place to place in a more traditional way. i imported BoF4 when it came out in 2000. it was my very first import (and a learning experience getting my PS1 to play it) and i played through it with over 150 hours. : / then after the stateside release, i played it even more. anyway, my point is, I LOVE BoF like almost no other game series, so i certainly hope another one is on the way.

i always knew they would make another BoF sometime, but the question for me has always been when. i would trust camelot to develop a new BoF, but i would rather see Capcom investing their own art department and developer talent to create BoF6. im not totally sure about what id like to see for the gameplay style, but i admit a totally tradtional turn-based rpg (as much as i DO love them) would be just a bit overdone by this point. so maybe they can integrate a turn-based variant of rpg gameplay, like with grandia since that was mentioned. or they could do something different, more action-oriented. they definitely need to bring back the old clans from the previous BoF games though, that's a must and also have more than 3 character like DQ had. : /

I have a strong opinion regarding the~ Breath of Fire~
series and its potential future.  Hence,
I have a massive post, which I hope officials at Capcom will take
constructively and serious. If a moderator will reply to this post, I would
feel more confidence voicing my opinion here at Capcom-Unity.

Dear Capcom,

I have supported your company since
I was old enough to read. I’ve spent hours looking for the ladder in Resident
Evil that never really existed. I managed to join the competitive fighting
scene with Street Fighter 3S. This taught me that Yun’s SAI gauge was too small
and Chun-li’s SAIII links off everything. *Lol*

Capcom has consistently brought
forth numerous characters and stories which inspire and enthuse.  Titles such as Street Fighter, Mega Man,
Resident Evil, and Devil May Cry remain to grow in popularity. Action titles
have been dominating the market for a while now. This is so prevalent that
classic genres are being converted. From a marketing perspective, this is
completely rational: supply and demand. Honestly, I don’t feel bad about losing
the survival horror aspect of the Resident Evil series. But, Breath of Fire V:
Dragon Quarter wasn’t ready to evolve in this direction.

I feel ecstatic to hear the ~Breath of Fire~ series will
continue… eventually.

Now, the newest BOF title has a gigantic reputation to
uphold. I’m certain Capcom is brainstorming possibilities. I’m here to address
the desires of devoted BOF gamers.

As the sixth installment, where do we start? I’d like to
address some positives and negatives concerning the older BOF titles than
finish with a summary. This way I can be very clear about what concepts are
successful and which are not working for the BOF series. Honestly, I want what
Capcom wants: a rich, successful, enlightening and refreshing BOFVI experience.

~Breath of Fire~

Great foundation: Great roster:  This game is one heck of a start for this
grand series. The music is memorable and Capcom delivered completely. The
graphics weren’t outstanding, and the art style needed to evolve.

~Breath of Fire II~

Amazing follow-up story. Untied ends which hints at a sequel
to the original. The roster increases and includes more uniqueness. Music is
just as memorable, and the characters are unforgettable. Character abilities
broaden as dragon becomes more accessible. Fishing evolves into something
better more enjoyable. The graphics look great and the art style moved exactly
where it needed to be. GREAT RPG!

~Breath of Fire III~

Man, where to start. Examine, enemy skills, masters,
apprentices, perfect roster, grand story which questions morals and encompasses
many beliefs/ideas, length was phenomenal, abilities broaden as dragon becomes
necessary and fun/unique, fishing evolved to be addicting and fun, dynamic
battlefields, more unforgettable characters, direct ties to the original BOF,
best music of any BOF, two distinct stages of story builds great character
development, 2D sprites and 3D background work well.  EPIC RPG!

~Breath of Fire IV~

Roster was amazing as character uniqueness and cameos gave
everyone something to cheer for. New battle system was refreshing and added a
new depth of strategy. Fishing was the best ever. Anime opening gave everyone
more eye candy. Yes, eye candy sells. Graphics and artistic style were to die
for. Music was good no complaints.  Masters and apprentices work, so we kept them NICE. Story was… different
in a bad way. Dragons were… different in a bad. A lack of direct ties to the
series is disappointing to the BOF fan base. Duality of Fou-lou wasn’t bad,
BUT, it wasn’t comparative to the two part feeling of BOFIII. Ending, was
rather lackluster honestly. Overall we have a descent sequel with an awesome
battle system.  =/

~Breath of Fire V~

Music was great and built lots of atmosphere. Art style was
different but in a good way. Although it still could have looked better: =P
Bonus dungeon was great but not diverse enough. The characters were unique
enough, but just too few, only 3… come on. Battle system was unique and worked
for the type of game play designed for an action/RPG/survival horror title.
But, it’s no relation to any of the past games. An evolution is one thing, but
we are missing a few steps here. I personally like DQ because of its extreme
difficulty, but, let’s share some honestly here. Extremely difficult games shy
away casual gamers. Which, I regret to add, consist the majority of the
consumer market. =/ The ending was VERY good, but it didn’t tie enough strings
to the BOF series… almost a recap of BOFII ending without anything direct.
Obviously, the SOL system wasn’t as effective as designed. Where is fishing? Or
hunting? Where are all the unique races? Where is the world map? Where are the
cameos? At what point does you D-counter become fun instead of a burden. For
plot and story this is an effective burden, but this burden only lowers game
play value. It’s awesome to turn into a dragon and flame enemies to death. It
sucks to have to feel guilty upon doing so. I felt so worried/concerned/guilty
about D-counter that I didn’t dragon. I missed out. WTF!

Now finally, ~ BOFVI~

This series is amazing; it has an enormously rich background
with possibilities beyond my imagination. This can become the greatest RPG of
all time.  In order to have a successful
BOF sequel these things need to be implemented.

-Unique roster with at least 8 diverse characters

-Amazing Music

-Better Graphics to appeal to the current generation of
gaming.

-Art Style should continue to evolve, enough to be different
from BOFIV

-Abilities broaden and become more accessible.

-Fishing and hunting keep their excitement and addictive
qualities.

-Grand story which questions morals and encompasses many
beliefs/ideas

-Length that rivals BOFIII & BOF IV: 50+ Hour RPG

-Dynamic/diverse battlefields

-Animation eye-candy for cinemas and opening/ending scene
such as: .the opening to BOFIV and the ending to BOFV.

-Dragons that look and intimidate like actual dragons. Not
elemental, land references for the dragons as in BOFIV. BOFV, did a wonderful
job depicting dragons and that should set a standard. They were fearful,
intimidating and completely awesome.

-A dynamic world map worth exploring just like Breath of
fire III.

- A system which doesn’t limit/sacrifice Dragon experience
for gamers

-Although I do appreciate a challenging RPG, the likes of
BOFV should not be forced

-Bonus Dungeon and replay value with options like new Game +
and level reset with same stats, as it would make the Master apprentice system
amazingly addicting upon replays.

-Cameos

-Deep Storyline ties to every BOF game. Filling holes in
each and adding new complex storyline elements

If these things are implemented into BOFVI I promise Capcom
will have an RPG strong enough to dominate the newest market. They will have
the title that scares Monolith and forces Square-Enix to look over their
shoulder.

Finally, I’ve addressed what needs to be done. Now, I would
like to share how I feel this can be accomplished with a few interesting
suggestions.

-Unique roster with at least 8 diverse characters. (Dragon,
Wyndian, Warren, plant,  Deia/Bleu, mole,
Bunyon, Bow of somekind, Momo)

-Amazing Music, easy, hire the guy who composed BOFIII.

-Graphics need to be High Definition 2D sprites or 3D models
on par with Eternal Sonata

-Art Style should continue to evolve, enough to be different
from BOFIV

-Abilities broaden and become more accessible. Like Dragon
and individual character skills, examine, masters/apprentice,

-Fishing and hunting keep their excitement and addictive
qualities.

-Grand story which questions morals and encompasses many
beliefs/ideas. Origin of life, abortion, racial tension, religious tension, dictatorship,
communions, terrorism, dirty government, riots

-Length that rivals BOFIII & BOF IV: 50+ Hour RPG

-Dynamic/diverse battlefield- Wheather alternations for
elemental strategies

-Animation eye-candy for cinemas and opening/ending scene,
such as: .the opening to BOFIV and the ending to BOFV. More animation in
general will appeal, possibly a popular theme song buy someone like Utada
HIkaru too.

-Dragons that look and intimidate like actual dragons. Not
elemental- land references for the dragons as in BOFIV. BOFV, did a wonderful
job depicting dragons and that should set a standard. They were fearful,
intimidating and completely awesome.

-A dynamic world map worth exploring just like Breath of
fire III.

- A system which doesn’t limit/sacrifice Dragon experience
for gamers. What if transforming benefited the payer but turning to was more
limited. =P

-Although I do appreciate a challenging RPG, the likes of
BOFV should not be forced. DIFFICULTY SETTINGS, this way everyone is happy.

-Mega bonus dungeon. Just do it Capcom. If you have
questions, ask tri-ace for an opinion, they’ve been adding this element to
titles since forever and it’s time you did the same, because this is a winning formula.
New game + options needed.

-Cameos, - See next suggestion-

-Deep Storyline ties to every BOF game. Filling holes in
each and adding new complex storyline elements.  Now we are faced with the plot and the tough ability to tie everything
together. This may seem ridiculous and unrealistic but I have the perfect idea
that is not a cop-out. I look at the storyline success within the Legacy of
Kain series, and the Valkyrie Profile series and see time travel as an
extremely interesting element. Having the newest edition of the BOF series go
through-out time would be the perfect way to fill old plot holes, show familiar
faces, add a depth to the game never seen before, and address the intense BOF
community with answers while adding new questions along the way. The casual
gamer would be become more involved than the DQ. From you Capcom would have a
completely revived, successful edition of the BOF series. This tactic would
also leave room to set-up for another title in the years to come. Please
Capcom, make this happen.

P.S.-

I have one more suggestion. Marketing: to continue the
series and build demand, consider BIF characters within Tatsunoko vs Capcom. =P

Sincerely,

Kyle~
