Hello everyone, welcome to my first blog post! I'm not much of a blogger, but to keep practicing my English (sorry for a sentence you don't understand or a grammatical error) I've decided to post my first blog today. The reason why I'm posting is becaus last Friday I bought the game Dead Rising Chop Till Tou Drop for Nintendo Wii. Dead Rising has the honor of being the 16th Capcom in my collection and the sixth game for the system. (It joins Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Resident Evil the Umbrella Chronicles, Zack & Wiki, Okami, We Love Golf!)
First of, I already played a bit of Dead Rising CTYD and thought it was far from bad. The game was heavily criticised because of the zombie count and how ugly the game looked, but after my first experience there is more to this game than you would realize. After buying it last Friday, I started out with Frank searching for the first survivors. While playing, its really weird at first that you are playing with the RE 4 Wii Engine. The gameplay is good don't get me wrong, but the main purpose of the 360 version was using items on Zombies. And killing them in the process. This Wii version focusses more on gunplay and while the RE 4 Wii Engine is fun, it takes a bit of the "drive" away to use the items. Why pick up an item, while zombies drop ammo like mad for your shotgun, handgun etc.? I have to say when you do pick up an item, it's fun. One of my favourite items is the soccerball. Zombies in the elevator and a soccerball? Maximum carnage. Attacking with unconventional weapons is fun.
What I didn't like about the game is several enemies who roam around. Dead Rising is a more comical version on the whole zombie universe (more so when compared to George A Romero's films) but the Wii version is a bit to comical. I mean, zombie poodles? Zombie parrots? That's just plain stupid. Annoying as well. The inclusion of Jo/Kent/Cliff zombies are a bit off. They don't fit in, just like the poodle/parrot ones. The other enemies, the mostly human Psychopaths are cool. People who go out of their mind like the Store Manager or the Butcher. Like them a lot.
Compared to the 360 version, the Wii version doesn't have a lot of zombies on screen. But the zombies who are there, are quite aggressive. They attack when you are close and they feel as a real threat. What I don't like, is the pop-up in the game. I mean, zombies just magicly appear most of the time. That's pretty weird to see and kind of destroys the illusion of zombies overtaking the Mall. On the other hand, escort missions get a bit easier. Talking about easier, I really like the way how the save system has been improved over the original. Multiple slots are great. Another thing I liked about the game are the Odd Jobs and Second Ammendment. These are quite hilarious, like Zombie soccer or I want to Ride My Bicycle. Awesome these kinds funny things.
In the end, everything you heard about CTYD isn't quite right. Yes, when looking at it objectively the 360 version is better. Still, I prefer the controls of the Wii version over those of the 360. I also like the new save system. A lot of consessions were made, but Dead Rising Wii isn't really Dead Rising like we know on the 360. It's Dead Rising: RE 4 Wii Engine Edition. Cramming the game into the RE 4 Wii engine is quite remarkable, but I still believe that Dead Rising was the wrong game to choose as a Wii game. I'd still pick Lost Planet or maybe Devil May Cry. Again, Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop isn't bad. It's fun, but its the definition of a quick snack. It's good to eat, but in the end you end up wanting more. Because of the awesome RE 4 Wii engine Dead Rising is worth a purchase. In other words, hopefully Capcom will consider more games with the RE 4 Wii Engine. But they will need a game that takes full advantage of it, not a game that uses a different engine on another platform.
In the end, the score for Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop is a 7.0/10.
Hope you liked reading my first blog, thanks and have a nice day!

Good read. I have the 360 version already, but I might check this one out as well.
