Give Me What I Want or Else...
"Give me what I want or else" is a phrase I've been seeing a lot lately
here on Capcom Unity. Sure not in those exact words, but a lot of
game X is too hard so it "sucks" and the company "sucks" or game X is
not available in my region so this company sucks. Well I'm going to go
out on a limb here and say that a greater part of this community is
quite honestly annoyed by this attitude. Sure everyone has the right
to an opinion, but before you go and blurt out your thoughts think
about what you're saying. The lot of it is childish. Ask yourself what did
you do to deserve special treatment or attention for a product you did
not earn? A company, heck anyone does not HAVE to do anything for
you. No one is obligated to make or give you anything. Sure Capcom
has made several great series (I myself am a fan of a lump sum of
them), but they have every right to just make one title, they don't
have to make a franchise. Just because you really want something, they
don't have to give it to you, even if you bought their product. Just
because you tossed your money at a company doesn't mean you
deserve a piece of the company, you don't get any favor for it. In the
same respect, you bought a game and you didn't like it. Well that is
NOT the company's fault. You can't please everyone and the buyer
should research a product before purchasing. Every reviewer of
Monster Hunter games has clearly stated the game is hard. If you did
not heed the warning and know you don't do well with hard games,
that is your fault alone. It's a poor attitude to attack the heart and
sweat poured into a product because you could not handle the
difficulty. Just try harder or recognize you made a poor choice in
your purchase, don't rant and cry about it.
To those that have stated that Capcom does not care about it's fans.
You are wrong and have a misunderstanding of the corporate world.
Yes there are corporations that are only there to make money and will
screw the customer and favor the client. I know I've worked in such an
industry, but that industry is none-important to my point. A company is
what it is because of it's employees, the employees represent the
company and it's attitude, they are the company. I have not witnessed
any sour Capcom employees, I've only seen devoted people here.
People that enjoy their craft and do it for the love of it. It's quite
apparent that they're here because of the fans and the unknowing
soon to be fans. When you come on here and you say that Capcom
doesn't care, you are personally attacking them and their work. I hope
you can take this letter to the community not as an insult or attack,
but as an eye opener.
Someone on the forums stated that companies are in an
art/entertainment business, but just because one commissions a
producer does not mean the consumer will be able to comission the
producer again. I being an artist can tell you, you reject a lot of
commission requests because you simply don't want to do it or are
against the subject. In terms of how the industry really works and
how economics work though, the idea is not as fluffed as it may seem.
If company Z decides to enter the interactive-entertainment industry
the obligation is not to the consumer. No, as any corporation the
obligation is to the share holder. Despite how much I would like it to
be for the consumer it is not. The argument is that because the
consumer purchases a product from the producer, the producer is
obliged to continue to please the consumer. However, this can be
true for service industries this is not true for product industry. The
company can create product XY, profit and decide that in the NA region
sales worth converting the product into a franchise, but in an Asian
region sales are not justified so the the product will be cut and a new
product catering the market will be created. Though you buy a game,
you are only part of a statistic and if your statistic is low your
purchasing power is low. Therefor you have little say in a continuation
of the product.
My point here is not argue about the business model. My point is to
address the community with the issue of consumers acting childishly
towards their consumer/producer relationship.
Capcom, its employees, volunteers, and community I thank you for
your persistance in delivering a great product and supporting it.
Fan and supporter,
Colt Sven.

Great read man! It's so true. Anyone who says that Capcom doesn't care lives under a rock, considering that they made LP2 based off of fan input, they are bringing Monster Hunter Tri~ to North America, and they are always on the forums seeing what we want. I'm glad you brought this point up. Well done!
