Who Watched the Watchmen? Unfortunately I did!

Monday, November 23, 2009, 11:18 AM CST [General]

    What a load of GARBAGE!

I'm going to go deeper than attack the film, I'm going after the source material! The comic books of the same name! What makes up the Watchmen? You have a crummy dystopian H.G. Wells wannabe plot, coupled with the biggest assortment of blatantly plagiarized characters I have ever seen in my LIFE!

Anyone who has read comics for any length of time, especially DC(Or even followed recent cartoons like JLU) will understand what I'm getting at. I think the most intelligence insulting rip-off of a character was Rorschach, this guy is quite literally Steve Ditko's "The Question", with a fancier mask, and more severe mental health issues. How about Nite Owl II? Can you say "The Blue Beetle"? Sure you can! Just add the gadget of Batman's evil analogue "Owl Man" and there ya go! Ozymandias is a combination of Lex Luthor, the Flash, and just a hint of Booster Gold. I'm not going to list the rest of the characters, because we'll be here all day long, but you get the idea.

Now some will try to say "Well the setting, and writing style was original for the time! Comics were never so dark before Watchmen!" That is a load of...BULL! Go pick up an old pulp comic from the 1930s. What will you find? Lies, sex, murder, all the sorts of things you'll find in "underground" comics of the early 1980s.

Alan Moore may have created some impressive works, but Watchmen certainly isn't one of them.

Capcom didn't betray you. YOU betrayed you!

Darkside Chronicles looks like it's gonna be a hit. But of course a certain sector isn't happy with it. That sector splits into two groups.

    1. People who'd rather have a traditional RE game.
    2. People who felt like they were promised a traditional RE game.

The first group are, for the most part, of the "Oh well, I'll got play something else." mindset. The second group suffer from something I like to call "Final Fantasy VII Syndrome" It's a big scary disease, and there is no cure for it! The T-virus has nothing on this bad boy!

Let me explain. Before DSC was announced, Capcom said something along the lines of "CVX fans will be pleased". Despite a lack of evidence, some people swore that it would be a proper remake, then acted betrayed when it ended up being Darkside Chronicles. They blamed Capcom for getting their hopes up, when it was their own fault for jumping the gun and drawing half-baked conclusions. The "Give us RE2make!" crowd have it in their head that a remake of RE2 would be in production had DSC been cancelled, though once again they have nothing to back this claim up. Sadly, there is no cure for this disease! FFVII fanboys have suffered from it since the advent of the PS2.

Maybe I came off wrong, but I wasn't disagreeing with you. ^^; Even if Shinji Mikami denied it, Alone in the Dark's influences still show in Biohazard, due to AitD being the first survival horror game utilizing the standards we know today.

The influences from Sweet Home are very apparent as well, though. It's not too much of a stretch of the imagination that Mikami played Sweet Home first (he joined Capcom in 1990, a year after it came out) and was influenced by AitD sometime before '95/'96 before making Biohazard.

Sorry if there was a misunderstanding earlier. And thanks for the info. :)

But how can that be? Alone in the Dark came out in 1992 while Sweet Home came out in 1989? True that Alone in the Dark set the standard for the survival horror genre, but the parallels to Sweet Home are too plentiful to ignore. ;)

Maybe it'd be fair to say both evenly influenced it, right?
