I decided to talk about my views on Shueisha vs. Capcom and why I think it should happen. It's something I've always wanted to see for years and I just thought I'd share this.
As you know already, Shueisha is the company behind the Shonen Jump mangas, which includes Dragon Ball Z, Hokuto No Ken (Fist of the North Star), JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, One Piece and so on. Many of us are familiar with the anime adaptations these series. One good example is Dragon Ball Z. It aired on TV for years, even before it made it's way to Cartoon Network's Toonami. However, not too long after that, it became THE most popular action anime on the channel. It wasn't long before almost everyone knew what DragonBall Z was. Of course, it's not that popular now but fans still like it regardless.
This also went for video game fans, including those who play Street Fighter. They may or may not like DBZ (I still do by the way) but I'm pretty sure that someone from that fanbase have noticed some similarities that the two series have. One noticeable similarity is the fireballs, namely the Kamehameha and Hadouken. This was noticed even more when the Marvel vs. Capcom game came out when Ryu's Shinku Hadouken looked almost identical to the Kamehameha (which is usually performed by the series hero Goku). Of course, we know it doesn't look like that in the SF series but we know the reason why things changed for the Capcom side, in that they had to get suped up in order to compete with the more powerful Marvel cast, which required a super jump and beefed up specials and supers. This same thing always went for the recent Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.
However, this type of gameplay fits perfectly for Dragon Ball Z. The characters flying (something they all can do ) can work well as super jumps and they already have overpowered moves. And we know that the Capcom characters will have to be suped again so all that talk about "DBZ characters being too powerful" is useless, especially when Marvel is more powerful too. Plus, there's no storyline so who cares?
Now lets get on to something else that I believe SHOULD be pointed out: the influences and similarities to Street Fighter. This not only goes for DBZ, but also Hokuto No Ken and JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. I'll just list some of them:
Hokuto No Ken:
Kenshiro=Ryu
Shin=Ken
Gouda=Zangief
Raoh's background=Bison's original background (some speculation here)
Rei, Yuda, Nameless Shura=Vega
Dragon Ball Z:
Goku=Ryu (a little similarity)
Kamehameha=Hadouken
Zarbon=Vega
Master Roshi=Oro
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure:
Lisa Lisa=Rose
Of course, this is not all. This site and this one go into detail about the similarities.
Check these sites out for similarities on the SF games.
I must also point out these series are all pretty good in my opinion, especially HNK (which is actually the first series have fireball attacks, even before Dragon Ball) so if you haven't see it, give it a try. It may be an old anime but it's awesome.
The point is, Shueisha has at least three series that influenced one of Capcom's own and we still have yet to see a crossover. Capcom has crossed with Marvel (a company they did games for prior), SNK (one of their long time rivals), and Tatsunoko (an anime company that also inspired some of their franchises, namely Mega Man) so don't you think it would be interesting to see Capcom go against the series that also influenced their Street Fighter series?
