    Spyborgs - Big Apple Brawling

    Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 11:45 AM [General]

Yesterday was Day 1 of 2 on our New York press tour.  Last week we showed the game to LA press (and I owe you guys a blog about that).

It’s great to see various media outlets that focus on different parts of arts, media, and entertainment react favorably to their first time seeing Spyborgs.  You all being Unity fans, what you really want to know is what the GAMING sites think of Spyborgs, right?

Well, thanks to Stephen Totilo and Will Thompson of Kotaku and Infendo respectively, we already have two posts from the day of.  Driving Spyborgs news your way and a special thanks to them for being so quick to share their thoughts, here are their posts: (click on the site name to see the rest of the article)

    Kotaku
    - “Spyborgs, the impressively-rendered co-op brawler created by Bionic Games for the Wii, gives a good first impression. It looks better than most Wii games and plays well.”

    Infendo
    - “Daryl showed me the way of the Spyborgs, and made me believe that three dimensional beat ‘em ups still have some fight left in them.”

Spyborgs - Captivate '09 Demo in Action

    Monday, May 4, 2009, 09:10 PM [General]

You heard about the Spyborgs presentation at Captivate ‘09, now see it for yourself.

GameSpot stopped by and captured video of their personal hands-on presentation.  My co-op presenter at Captivate, Capcom Design Director Kraig Kujawa, provides the voice-over walkthrough.  The other player, with those mad skillz failing at motion moves, is none other than GameSpot’s own Ricardo Torres.  (In all fairness, by the end he's succeded at most of them, which nicely demonstrates how quickly players pick up the controls and get into the fun.)

Since this is raw footage of a pre-Alpha build (and I wasn’t there to present it to you :-) ), I feel compelled to share a few build notes with everyone:

As Kraig points out, this demo is constructed of polished pieces of different stages.  The actual stages play longer than what you see here and there are a few additional ones between each of those you see here.

Kraig also mentions how the Hero Upgrade Screen is not yet in place, so you’ll see us trigger a few upgrades via the Pause Menu.

Clandestine’s sword upgrade is a work in progress.  It’s in there to show an example of what we will do.  Get ready for the real thing coming soon!

The “Terminator Boosters” are difficult to see in this video.  We’ll go into details on our motion controls in the future, but imagine Kraig doing a two-fisted, overhead slam with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as he demonstrates Bouncer’s heavy attack combo after turning on that upgrade.

Music is placeholder.  We didn’t have all of it in time for Captivate.  It’s actually getting implemented this week.

HUD prompts and controls for the special moves have already improved since this build.

Our special, co-op Team Attack sequences are cutting off a second too soon in this demo; cutting off before the satisfying explosion of the enemy.  We’ve fixed that bug and we're in the process of enhancing the cameras, animations, and special effects for those sequences.

Last but not least, enjoy seeing more of the boss battle against Eighty-Six than we meant to reveal online after Captivate – a good bit of phase 1 and a tease of phase 2.  You hear Kraig comment on how he thinks it’ll fade out right away and then surprise as it continues.  I figured since this is already out on the net at GameSpot, I might as well share it with you all!

    Spyborgs - We're back!

    Wednesday, April 29, 2009, 05:05 AM [General]

That's right, remember that Wii excluive, that new co-op action IP that Capcom was developing for the Wii gamers?  Here it comes - bigger, better, and badder-@$$er than before.

click on the logo to go to the Spyborgs website and view the trailer, screens, and plenty more content coming soon

Thank you Captivate '09 for our (re)coming out party.  It's nice to talk details on Spyborgs again.  This is going to be fun.  The previews and comments are flooding in.  I'll regularly pick 'em off the net and post them here, respond to some of the questions and hot topics, and generally start blogging again about all the cool stuff we and Bionic Games are doing as we finish this project.

For now, Kotaku is the lucky one to kick things off thanks to randomly selecting one out of my inbox.

For those of you with the Xbox Live version of Age of Booty, you'll find yourself treated to an automatic title update the next time you launch the game.  One of the key features of this update is that Age of Booty now supports Avatars.

There's just nothing quite like watching your friends walk the plank after you've kicked their arses!

A couple other key upgrades to Age of Booty come with this update:

    * Party Chat support

    * Idle players get kicked out of matchmaking games and are replaced by AI opponents.

    * All those free DLC maps we released a while back are now part of the matchmaking rotation.  Trial players are also treated to all these DLC maps.

So sign yourself on, check out the Party Chat features, see your Avatar in the game, and enjoy the fresh map rotation now with twice as many maps as before!
