I graduated high school January 2nd, 2003. On August 19th, 2009 I will be going back to school. w00t! Yesterday I went to the college and ordered my books (Holy $702 just on books!) and once I held them...it just became real. At 24 years old I am going back to school. I will be getting a degree in Computer Science and Networking Technology. I am really excited about it! I am also extremely nervous! I will be working full time and going to school full time, 17 credits this semester. My gaming time is going to be shot, lol!
I am looking into getting a laptop for school. Probably a Dell since I get discounts on them from both the school and my work. AlienWare is looking freaking awesome. (Yeah, that is a gaming laptop...I am going to need to work on my priorities, LOL) I am a bit in over my head though. Not sure exactly what OS I should go with. I have only heard bad reviews for Windows Vista, so I am thinking I might go with Linux...hmmm. (Any thoughts/suggestions on an OS? I am NOT getting a Mac...so yeah...)
Anyways, I am excited about school so I thought I would write about it! Hmmm, how to make this blog gaming related...OH I know!
I have been to various websites checking out MHFU reviews and reading forums. For once people are actually taking notice of a Monster Hunter game! However, this is both good and bad. While more and more people are discovering what a deep awesome game it is, some people just have to find some reason or another to complain. Here are the most common Monster Hunter complaints...and what I have to say about them.
**EDIT** So...I might have gotten a little carried away. LOL! What can I say? I love Monster Hunter! **END EDIT**
There is no health bar.Personally I prefer it this way. Monster Hunter has so many moments where the quest seems impossible. You've died twice, you are out of potions. You can only attack by running in, getting off one hit, then running away. Repeating that over and over. You get the "10 Mins left" in the quest message. You start to feel like you should just abandon, you get pissed and want to break your PSP...then you see it! The Monster limps! There is hope! A few more slashes and the monster is dead! It is so much more gratifying when you have NO idea how much HP the monster has. If you knew that it only had a few hundred HP left all that suspense would be gone.
There is no story.I love this about Monster Hunter as well. Having no story thrown in your face makes it so you can create your own. It also makes you feel like YOU are really doing something. When I play a game like Final Fantasy VII, my reaction is "Cloud just beat Sephiroth! YAY!" When I play Monster Hunter my reaction is "I just beat Rathalos! ME! I just did that!" That may be the reason people who love MH and are good at it come off as having a "Elitist" attitude. When you play MH you feel like YOU are really hunting the monsters. YOU made the weapon you are holding. You made your armor, and YOU are proud of everything you own, from your very first armor set, to your G Ranked armor set. YOU worked for it. It is not some random character in a story trying to save the world, it is just you trying to hunt monsters. It may sound insane, but you feel like you are your hunter. No other game has ever been able to have that feeling.
The camera/controls are crappy and there is no lock on.No. LOL! That is all I have to say to that. The camera takes some time to get used to, but it works for the game. After a while you don't even notice it. If you have trouble with the controls, that is more the person holding the PSP rather then the game itself. There are tons of weapon types to choose from. Find one that feels right to you, then stick with it. As for lock on. It would KILL the game. Where is the skill in holding R to lock on...then mashing x? Why does everyone want a game that plays itself? If you were really hunting a monster would you be able to just lock on? (Forget the part where you are holding a 500lb sword...LOL)
I think this game is just too deep for most gamers. They want games that are fast and flashy. Games that make you look like you have "awesome skills" when all you are doing is button mashing or locking on to something...whoopie. Monster Hunter can be intimidating because it really does require skill to play. You can only get that skill by playing it though, it cannot really be taught. Yes I can say, "When Ian turns slowly she is about to fireball and if she steps back, get the heck out of the way cause she is flipping!" but that is the extent of the help you can get.
Once you start to master Monster Hunter it becomes addicting. As your skills improve, the monsters get harder, you will get your ass kicked....and hopefully love every minute of it. It's the fact that you do get your ass kicked that makes it so much better when you kill something. To some though that just turns them away. They aren't pros at a game the second they turn it on...well that must mean the game sucks, it couldn't possibly be that they suck at the game.
Hehe, thanks. I wouldn't really dress like that, but I thought it was pretty funny. =D
Yeah, well, there def are some different quests in HR9. I think there are quite a few epic quests.
Yeah, I think all the Rathalos and Rathians are a pain. They like to constantly fly out of reach, which just eats up the time you could be spending beating them in the face. I still hate fighting Nargacugas and Tigrex, though. Just the way they move and stuff, really annoying.
Yama's not all that bad. You might've seen pictures of it. Looks like a big octopus or something. But when you learn it's moves, it's not really hard at all. The only attack that REALLY messes you up is it's Vortex attack. If you're smack'n at it while its eyes are yellow and do enough damage, it may start to make a whirlwind come out of it's mouth and it'll turn in one direction at a decent pace and try to suck you in. It just pulls you towards it's mouth and shoots you into the sky and you'll land, usually resulting in an instant kill. It's a much easier battle if you have someone with you, because if you do get sucked into the vortex and someone is there to help you, they can use a Lifepowder before you hit the ground and it'll save you from die'n.
Anyway, I guess Snow's going to be doing some more recordings today. He usually records us playing the new download quests on fridays so he can post them up on his blog. You could probably join in. =)
Heh, I really don't mind at all. But you say you're doing G rank missions now? That's not low. Am I missing something? =o
As far as G rank goes, there's only so much I've been able to do on my own. Vespoid Queen is nothing. I've beaten an Emerald Congalala and I've killed almost a dozen Nargacugas (which still take me 35-45 minutes by myself). Also can take on Yama Tsukami, who I think is a G*** Elder Dragon.
But, anyway, it's late. I'll probably see ya sometimes this week if you're on. Later! =D
I was pretty much the same when I started. Snow had been HR'n up with people before I had even begun to play, so he'd always take me on missions I wasn't even ready for in order to rank me up and get better materials. I'd usually end up having to stay away from whatever we were fighting cuz my armor sucked so bad that getting hit was usually fatal even at full health.
But, yeah, I don't mind doing lower level quests. It's always fun to help others out. Plus, it makes me look better when I can take something without much trouble. =P
We can definantly hunt whenever you want. Pretty sure Snow and whoever else I may be with wouldn't mind it, either. Just now you might hear Snow going crazy over stuff while playing Monster Hunter Tri. Past couple of days, he's been playing Tri and Unite at the same time with us. Pretty much rub'n it in our faces.
Anyway, like I said, we can hunt/farm for stuff whenever. Think you're cool enough. =)
Aww...yeah I didn't see his eyes. I love ATHF, though. Can I get the 5 points back? =P
And, yeah, it was fun. You're really good. I play around too much I think. But, I had started a female character to mainly solo with, so I'll see how far I can get with her.
Hehe, thanks. I wouldn't really dress like that, but I thought it was pretty funny. =D
