Resident Evil Outbreak Story: Desperation Part 4

    Tuesday, October 27, 2009, 09:01 PM [General]

Kevin and Alyssa entered their room of choice. The door was a little hard to open, but that just made Kevin only try a little harder to open it.

Kevin: Man, how old is this place?
    Alyssa: Don't ask me.

As they completely entered the room, they stopped to look around. Nothing was in the room, so they had no reason to suspect any lingering infected at the moment. Kevin shot his attention at a desk with a lamp in front of him.

Kevin: Hey, a lighter. This could prove handy somewhere down the line.
    Alyssa: Uh huh…

Alyssa watched as Kevin put the lighter in his pocket before she branched out and went further into the room. She spotted a lead pipe leaning on the wall and pointed at it.

Kevin: Yeah, yeah. I got it.

Kevin took the lead pipe and held it in his hand firmly as he kept an eye on Alyssa's movements from a few feet away. Alyssa's attention wasn't peaked until she spotted a cabinet. Her intuition told her something of value to their survival was in there, so she walked up to it without regard to her surroundings at the time. She put her hands on both handles and tried to pull the cabinet open.

    Alyssa: Damn!
    Kevin: What?
Alyssa: It's locked. I'll have to pick it.

Kevin smiled and approached Alyssa's side as she was searching her pocket for the lock pick. A loud crash was heard as Kevin bashed a hole in the cabinet with his fist. He pulled his fist out of the cabinet and waited for a response from Alyssa, while still smiling. Alyssa stopped looking for her lock pick and looked up to see Kevin's fist hole in the cabinet.

    Alyssa: Oh great, a hole.
Kevin: It's only step one, baby.

He placed his fingers in the hole and pulled outward. In a moment, he broke off the cabinet door, dropping it to the ground. The door wasn't made of thick wood and it seemed old, so it wasn't hard for Kevin to rip it off. The other door of the cabinet just creaked open slowly as Alyssa got a good look at what was inside.

Alyssa: That's one way of doing it. Brute man force, good one.
Kevin: If that's your way of thanking me, I'll accept that.

Alyssa took a serious look into the cabinet and a brown cloth covered an object. Alyssa reached in and pulled the cloth off slowly. She finally removed it completely and knew exactly what it was.

    Alyssa: Dibs.
Kevin: ****! And I grabbed the lead pipe…

Kevin threw the lead pipe to the ground because he didn't like it anyway. Alyssa grabbed the shotgun from the cabinet and held it with both arms. She turned around and walked away a few feet before turning to look at Kevin who followed her movements. Alyssa lightly launched the shotgun into the air and caught it in her hand while smiling at Kevin.

Alyssa: Sucks to be you right now.
Kevin: That's cool. I still have my baby.

Kevin pulled out his .45 and aimed it at the window next to him. He was displaying how he prefers the feel of his gun to any other weapon. He simulated a sound from his gun in a low tone.

    Kevin: Pow.

As soon as he said that, something slammed the window and cracked it.

    Alyssa: The hell?
    Kevin: What was that?

Something else slammed the window and broke through, but a big piece of glass pierced its body and it fell to the floor. Kevin aimed his gun at the window by instinct and Alyssa's eyes were locked on the entire event.

    Kevin: Is that a… crow?

Before Kevin got to investigate closer, four more crows poured in. One of them charged at Kevin as he dodged the crow. Alyssa was ducking down as the crows were hovering above her. Kevin took a shot at one of them and killed the crow. The other crows were all coming down towards Alyssa. Kevin made a jumping move to push Alyssa out of the way, knocking them to the ground. Alyssa spotted a canister of rat killing spray and took it quickly with her hand. The crows circled around and were planning on trying to attack again.

Alyssa: Give me your lighter! Right now!

Kevin searched in his pocket and pulled the lighter out. Alyssa snatched it from his hand and stood up.

    Kevin: What are you doing!

Alyssa lit up the lighter and placed it in front of the rat spray. The crows were getting much closer as she waited just a few seconds longer. Kevin quickly stood up and stood behind Alyssa aiming his gun at the birds.

Alyssa: Come on, you little bastards.

Alyssa sprayed the bug spray through the lighter and aimed the fire at the crows. Each one of them flew into the fire, but their burning bodies came flying at Kevin and Alyssa. Alyssa stopped spraying and quickly moved out of the way. Kevin also moved as quickly as he could. The crows hit the ground and were unable to fly anymore. They were burning. Alyssa and Kevin stood there looking at them.

    Kevin: Resourceful…
    Alyssa:  Thanks.
Kevin: I think it's safe to guess that the infection is not just limited to humans…
Alyssa: You think they were infected?
Kevin: I'm sure if they saw a dead corpse, they would eat at it. Damn birds eat anything.
Alyssa: All right then. We're done here. We should go before we make more crow friends.
    Kevin: Right.

Alyssa made her way to the exiting door. Kevin took one last look at the burnt crows. He smirked at their bodies.

    Kevin: They had it comin.

Cindy opened the door to the locker room and gently pushed the door open. The lights in the room illuminated everything enough for her to assume no threat was in there.

    Cindy: It looks safe…
    George: Let me enter first.
    Cindy: Okay…

George entered the locker room slowly and looked around. Cindy waited in the doorway while holding the door open with one hand.

George: It's fine. There is no visible threat.

Cindy let go of the door and entered the room. The door shut itself slowly but surely. Cindy stood still in the middle of the room and looked to the ground. George was checking to see which of the lockers were unlocked. The first few he tried wouldn't open. He glanced at Cindy as she was standing there looking at the floor. George stopped trying to open lockers for a moment and called to her.

George: Cindy, are you all right?
    Cindy: It's Will… I miss him…
George: Death of close friends and loved ones is never easy to push through. I'm sorry.

George walked over to Cindy and stood in front of her. He grabbed her hands in an attempt to help her through her grief. Cindy looked up at George and stared into his eyes with her damp eyes. She broke the contact of her hands with his gently, but continued to stare at George. She looked at his shoulders and just quickly hugged him. George was accommodating to her hug because he anticipated this.

    Cindy: I… still can't believe… he's… gone.
George: I know, but you must be strong for Will. He has passed, but I'm sure he would have wanted you to survive the terrible circumstance he has fallen prey to.

Cindy slowly broke the hug, as she lightly pulled away from George. Her eyes follow his tie up to his eyes before she smiled at George.

Cindy: You're right. Thank you for setting me straight.
George: You're welcome. Please, feel free to consult me at any time for anything else.
    Cindy: All right.

George turned his body a little so he could get a good look at the lockers he was trying to open. Cindy followed his movements and noticed her own locker in the spot George was looking.

Cindy: That's my locker over there.
George: Oh? Do you have anything useful in it?
Cindy: I'm not sure. Let me check.

Cindy walked past George and stood in front of her locker. She used the combination number she always remembered and removed the lock.

Part 5 will take some time, since I haven't started working on it yet. Thanks for reading this far.

Resident Evil Outbreak Story: Desperation Part 3.

    Friday, October 23, 2009, 11:05 PM [General]

Kevin and David exited out of the bar into the back area. It was dark, but the outside neon lights provided enough light for them to see the staircase leading up. They hurried up the stairs cautiously.

Kevin: By the way, I'm Kevin of the RPD.
    David: … David.

They quietly introduced one another while moving up slowly. Reaching the top of the stairs, they spot a body leaning on the wall to the right of them.

David: There are dead people back here too?
Kevin: At least he's not getting up. Let's keep going.
    David: I don't know…

Kevin and David walked through a doorway that led to where everyone was waiting. Everyone stopped talking amongst each other and stared at David and Kevin.

    Cindy: Will's dead… right?
Kevin: He was dead when he tried to attack us. We had no choice but to take him out.
Alyssa: What the hell is going on here?
George: Those reports… must have somehow become widespread. It's possible this is some sort of viral situation based on what has occurred in the bar.
Jim: This **** can't be happening!
Alyssa: Viral? Could this be an act of bio-terrorism?
    George: That's a possibility.
David: I say we look for a way out of this **** hole.
George: He's correct. We must escape before this city engulfs us further.

While everyone was still standing around for a moment, Mark was standing over Bob who was sitting on the ground next to the wall.

Mark: How are you feeling, Bob?
Bob: Not so good… I feel really… tired.
Mark: We'll escape this city with the others. Even if I have to support your weight the whole way.
    Bob: … Thanks.
Kevin: First and foremost, we must introduce ourselves to prevent confusion and better plan our escape.
George: Right. We've all introduced ourselves while in waiting, so to save time I will have to introduce everyone to you two.
Kevin: No objections? All right then.
George: I should start by naming myself. I am George. The two furthest away from us is Mark and Bob. Bob is sitting on the ground.
Kevin: I'm sure they can hear us.
George: Next is Alyssa, she is the "lock picking news reporter" according to your comment.
    Alyssa: Hey.
George: Cindy is standing beside me.
Cindy: (Noticeable reaction to her name)
George: Jim is standing behind me.
    Jim: What's up?
George: Yoko is standing next to Jim, wearing a backpack.
    Yoko: Right…
    Kevin: All right. I'm Kevin.

All of the introductions seemed to be finished, but one person didn't say anything through the entire introduction. Everyone stared at David and waited for him to say his name.

    David: (Says nothing)
    Alyssa: Uh…?
David: What are you all looking at?
    Kevin: … This is David.

No one responded and it made for some awkward silence, but everyone finally looked past the situation and Kevin took control of the planning. Mark lifted Bob and wrapped Bob's arm around the back of his neck. They both joined the others as the rest of the survivors were planning on what to do next.

Kevin: If we're going to experience any confrontations, I suggest finding and using weapons of any sort in this area. We'll split up and look for weapons in each room.
David: Right. I'm going to the room on the far end. I'll go alone.
Kevin: All right. Alyssa and I will search this room behind us. I suggest Yoko search this area we are currently in.
    Yoko: Okay.
Mark: Bob and I will wait here and watch over Yoko as she searches.
Jim: I'll keep an eye behind where we came from. Don't want no zombies creeping up on me!
George: Seems like we all know the simple classification of the infected, as I hear no objections to Jim's claim.
    Jim: Damn right.
Cindy: All right then. I'll search the locker room and get anything I can.
George: I'll come along to provide assistance.

Everyone went their separate ways as Yoko began searching around the area everyone else was in. There wasn't much ground to cover, so Yoko just picked one spot to focus on. She noted an object on a desk, walked over to it, and picked it up.

    Yoko: What's this?
    Mark: Be careful with that.

Just as Yoko looked toward Mark in confusion, she pulled the trigger of the object. It shot a nail directly into the desk. She jumped in alarm, as she wasn't expecting it to fire.

    Yoko: Oops. It's a nail gun…
Mark: Maybe you should leave weapon handling to us.
    Yoko: You're right...

Yoko placed the nail gun in her pack carefully and began searching around some more. She didn't find much else on the desk, so she turned her attention to an oddly placed refrigerator. Opening the refrigerator, she didn't find anything but a bottle of wine. She took it out and looked at it for a moment. As she was trying to figure out what uses it would have in combat, she noticed a perfectly placed newspaper on a table to her right.

    Yoko: This could work.

She walked over to the table with the wine in her hand. The wine top was already loose as she could easily pull it out to test her theory. Yoko grabbed the newspaper and stuffed it in the bottle.

Yoko: We just need a lighter, but I'm sure someone has one.

She took the paper out and placed the cork back into the wine bottle. She placed these items in her pack as she began her search again.

(These events all occur at the same time because it would extend the timeframe too far)

David entered his room of choice. He stood in front of the door and scoped out the area. Nothing looked too threatening as he finally decided to walk a bit. He noticed nothing that could be used as a weapon as he searched the desk and area. The only thing he did was grumble at the nice pictures on the wall.

    David: Useless.

David turned around to leave. As he walked to the door, he heard a loud drop coming from the patio of the room. He pulled out his pocketknife and approached the patio slowly.

David: Hey! Who the hell is there?

No one answered him, so he just kept walking slowly and ready for anything. David finally reached the patio and noticed a body face down on the ground. He knew this man couldn't be alive, but he had to be sure.

    David: Hey, you!

There was still no response. David approached the man and pushed his shoulder with his foot a few times. Nothing has changed. He was planning to turn and leave before he spotted a holster on the waist of the man. He recognized what it carried. Something he had left at home. It was a survival knife. David had no plans to leave that on the waist of the dead guy, so he wanted to take it. He was cautious, so he kicked over the man to see his face. The man was staring up at David with his death face, but he didn't care.

David: Looks like he knows his knives.

He crouched down and removed the holster from the man. The first thing he did was remove the survival knife from its holster and marveled the clean reflection it gave off. He put the survival knife back in the holster and attached it to his waist. David stood up, turned around, and took a few steps forward before stopping. The dead body he took the knife from had become reanimated. The zombie looked around while facing up in search of something or someone. David turned around to look at the zombie as they both locked eyes.

David: I couldn't think of a better way to break in this knife.

As David said that, he pulled out his new found survival knife. The zombie proceeded to get up slowly and faced in the wrong direction of David.

David: Over here, you rotten piece of ****.

The zombie quick turned to look at David at the cost of falling to the ground again. David took a ready position and waited for the zombie to make his move. It got up again and started shambling towards David's direction. It reached its arms towards David as it got closer and closer. David made a forward move to trick the zombie as he went behind and stabbed it quickly in the back of the head. David didn't give it a chance to react as he forced the zombie completely to the ground on its face. It didn't move anymore. David left the survival knife in its head for a moment as he stood up and looked at what he had done. David didn't care too much about it, so he put his foot on the back of its neck and pulled his survival knife out of the zombie's head. He cleaned the knife on the zombie's clothes before putting it back in the holster.

David: Sorry, pal. No hard feelings.

David stood up and made his way towards the exiting door of the room. The screams in the distance were enough to heed his attention, but not enough to stop him from walking. He knew there was nothing he could do about it. All of his attention had to go into the survival of himself and possibly the others if need be.

Part 4 will take some time, as it's currently in the works as Alyssa and Kevin explore their end of the searching. Patience is key.

No, I remember it clearly. The guy was trying to blow me up; I wrote his tag down just to make sure I wouldn't fall for that old barrel crap again (I'd just look at the name and get into the action of doing him in instead of him doing me in).

He sort of improved a bit since you last saw him, as he held fire on the grenades until I got down enough to get near a barrel (which would increase the likelyhood of me getting it).

They're worth checking out. They're an Australian band...very cool. I think their best album was Begins Here...just personally. The lead singer; Clint Boge, he has a really strong, beautiful voice.
