    Demon's Crest

    Thursday, September 17, 2009, 05:02 PM EST [Old-School Games]

Most of you should remember this game, Demon's Crest, a side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Capcom in 1994 for the Super NES video game console. The game is part of the Gargoyle's Quest sub-series of the Ghosts 'n Goblins franchise that followed in tradition with high degree of difficulty and tricky level design. And by difficult I mean, approaching the level of difficulty of Ghouls & Ghosts. You play a demon known as Firebrand and he is on a quest to collect all of the elemental Crests, magical stones which preside over their respective elements (Fire, Earth, Water, Air, Time, and Heaven).

Fans of the Ghouls & Ghosts series are going to feel right at home with this game. The music in Demon's Crest sounds alot like Ghouls. Most tracks sets the mood right for the game. Think Ghouls & Ghosts with a darker feel to the melodies.

As for the control system used in Demon's Crest is perfect for this game. You have full mid-air control of Firebrand, but you also have a hugh range of attacks and special moves. As well as the basic moves you would get in a side-scroller game like this. You have the ability to hover in mid-air, which allows you to avoiding some of the nasty obstacles. Just like Megaman, You can also grab onto walls and throw objects to break them open. Acquiring the Transformation Crests will allow you use special abilities like the ability to swim, cut vines, jump higher, and also cut the amount of damage you take from enemies in half.

This is truly an awesome game. Capcom created some of the best 16-bit games (including 8-bit games, but no need to discuss this now). There are alot of gameplay elements that made this game such a joy to play. For fans of the Ghouls & Ghosts series, this one is for you.

    An Update

Thursday, April 16, 2009, 12:02 AM EST [General]

Sorry for the lack of posting, folks, but here's a small update!. I've been working overtime for the pass few weeks. Even though I haven't been playing SF4 that often in the past few days, other activities like playing Monster Hunter Freedom 2 stole my attention. I probably shouldn't play while on overtime hours, but sometimes I need a break.
