MvC Origins – Shadow (Charlie)

Sep 25, 2012 // Yuri Araujo

In the lead up to Marvel vs. Capcom Origins , coming September 25th ( TODAY! ) to PlayStation Network and September 26th to Xbox Live Arcade , we at Capcom Unity (along with our pals at Marvel.com ) thought it’d be fun to run through the roster and highlight each of the unique, memorable and occasionally insane characters. Since MvCO includes both Marvel Super Heroes and the original Marvel vs Capcom, we’ve got a lot of ground to cover – we’re handling the Capcom characters, while Marvel has its own write-up right here .

Today we explore the dark  Psycho Power fueled side of  Charlie from the  Street Fighter Alpha series, who goes by the name of  Shadow in  Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.

SHADOW CHARLIE

First appearance:  Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter  (1997)

MvCO appearance:  Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes

Before we start talking about Shadow , let’s quickly recap Charlie ‘s backstory.

Charlie’s name is first mentioned in Guile ‘s ending on Street Fighter  II ; it was only mentioned in the Western versions though – not in the original Japanese text. A few years later (before, canonically) Charlie joined the main cast of fighters in  Street Fighter Alpha . His fighting style is strikingly similar to Guiles’s, and as it was revealed that Charlie is actually Guile’s supperior, it all started to make some sense… right?

Anyways, in  X-Men vs. Street Fighter , Charlie’s ending shows that he is captured by  M.Bison .

In Street Fighter: The Movie and cartoon TV series, Charlie then becomes  Blank a LOL!

Let’s forget that and go back to the crossover  Versus universe, shall we?

Thanks to this awesome fansite for the courtesy of providing screenshots of the assists!

I’ve got nothing against Blanka (except for misrepresenting my nationality) but Shadow seems like a better fate for Charlie. I mean, think about it: he already had a great moveset, and now it’s powered by the  Psycho Power ! What more could you want? He was actually playable in  Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter , but in MvCO he is a secret assist character in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.

Maybe he was demoted to assist character because he was too good? Anyways, let’s how good of an assist he really is   TODAY and  TOMORROW as Marvel vs. Capcom Origins  goes live on PSN and XBLA respectively!!
