Producer Yoshiki Okamoto considers Final Fight as his company's take on the beat-em-up genre first popularized by Double Dragon, which he cites as an inspiration, and is considered to be a precursor to the numerous beat-em-ups that dominated the arcade and console market during the early 1990s, including some that were produced by Capcom themselves.
