I purchased the game from capcom site ( digital download ). When I click on the Flock_Digital_Download.exe file to start the installation, I get the Installshield popup select the language choice, At that point it gives error 1628:Failed to complete Installation.

Running Windows XP SP3 Tons of room on HD's

C:\10G freespace.

D:\Temp folder is located 15G freespace.

I cant even get the game to install.

That's really weird...  I suspect a corrupted download.  Try deleting that installer download, clear your internet cache, and redownload the install.  Disable any download accelerators or anything that might mess with the download.

same issues as others on this forum... NOWHERE did it say to disable flashget download manager..

It says I have downloaded it 23 times, maximum is 15. I havent even been able to get it installed ONCE!

BOTH times it gave that same error message 1628 Failure to complete install... Now I cant download a game I purchased and emailing digital river should be CAPCOM's ISSUE not someone else's...

Managed to FIX this on my own.

NOW REMEMBER this is a brand new clean install of XP with ALL updates including SP3, from MS.

Operating System:Windows XP w/SP3 and all drivers updated.

2 things I had to do:

From MS website d/l Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable make sure to get correct one for your OS!!

URL - www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx...

Control Panel ->Administrative Tools -> Component Services -> Restart Windows Installer Service AND set it to automatic, normally on manual, REBOOT PC.

This FINALLY allowed on a CLEAN INSTALL OF XP, the game to be installed properly.

What a joke !

For some poor smuck who doesnt know a thing about their OS, to have to go thru this to Install this purchased game !

Hi Pakrat, two things:

1)  You should really just uninstall flashget -- it works by draining server resources and stealing them away from other users (by starting dozens of concurrent downloads when one would suffice).  There's a warning on the download page not to use download accelerators, but I can understand you missing it as understandably you would just click download instead of reading the text on the download page -- I know I've been guilty of this myself in the past.  :)

2)  Thank you for posting the solution up here, it'll benefit any other users who stumble into this problem.

your welcome, and flashget is gone off my system for sure. Glad I was able to use an already downloaded file

that it wasnt corrupt and just a stupid MS MSI installer issue.

Now the ONLY issue is it won't uninstall, & I'll loose one of my activations. Just too many OS issues that have come up with corrupt files here and there. Prompting me to completely reinstall my OS after a reformat of the HD.

Actually, you don't have to worry about activations anymore.  You'll want to have your original installer files saved off somewhere before refomatting though

Edit:  Also, don't forget to back up your My Documents\Flock folder so you keep your progress and maps.  Actually, you probably want to back up your entire My Documents folder ;)

Thanks for verifying that ( activation thing ).. I always have my documents / cookies / favorites / temp folder etc moved from original location over to a strictly programs drive ( seperate partion ) that way IF i have to reinstall OS all my favorites etc are safe. I just reassign the location to them after a reformat / reinstall.

Keeps the OS drive smaller and that way The ONLY thing that goes onto the OS drive is what I cant tell it NOT to install there. ( windos updates etc ) Everything else goes onto the programs HD. Really keeps the system flying very smoothly.

Looks like i picked up a trojan of some kind that kaspersky didnt pick up on and it started really messing up my system drive. Oh well it was time for a fresh install to get rid of all the clutter that takes over a system after a few years.

thanks for the response.
