The import gaming thread

Basically, where we talk about games we've imported. I've modded my (slim) PS2 so it can play JPN games & also imported some DS games (which, awesomely, doesn't need to be modded, so you can play JPN games on your US DS/DSi no problem). I'm thinking of importing a PSP game (again, no region-protection), but I need to read some reviews. Here's what I own:

PS2:

Beatmania IIDX 11: Red (though I have the US controller)

Beatmania IIDX 12: Happy Sky

Beatmania IIDX 13: DistorteD (that's how it's typed & shown in the game)

Beatmania IIDX 14: Gold

Beatmania IIDX 15: DJ Troopers

Pop'n Music 9

Guitar Freaks & Drummania Masterpiece Silver

Guitar Freaks & Drummania Masterpiece Gold

Guitar Freaks & Drummania V3

DS:

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!

Jump! Ultimate Stars

Moero! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2

So what games have you imported?

I recall Best Buy selling some imported DS games for a while (some Naruto game & Jump! Super Stars). I don't think they still do it now, though.

I buy my imports from a site called Play-Asia.com. They ship from Hong-Kong, but it usually takes a week for my stuff to arrive. Shipping cost for some controllers or bigger stuff can get expensive ($20 shipping for a controller I ordered from them, but came 2 days after I ordered), but it's only about $3-ish for normal, which is good. & you always get a $5 off next purchase coupon when you order from them, but it expires usually within 1 or 2 months.

I usually ask for an import when it's Xmas or my B-day (which, since it's coming in 3 months, I should check to see what I can get) since the games I get tend to cost more than just going to the store.

Play-Asia is cool, but man sometimes they can be a complete rip off. Unfortunately they're always getting the good and exclusives so it's one place to get em.

Most games I know are bound to come over here so I just wait, there has been a few I've wanted to import though. Some for collector's purposes and others that I know just won't come over here. I tend to go for more collectable items rather than games though, since they're less likely to come over here like art books.

Yeah, I tend to wait & see if it won't be brough over here until I import. For example, Jump! Ultimate Stars wasn't coming to the US due to licensing issues, so I decided to import that. Neat that the Wi-Fi works worldwide. & Konami/Bemani doesn't really bring over their music games aside from DDR (well, there was ONE IIDX game & a new Pop'n Music is coming to the Wii, but it's not going to use the special controller), so I decided to import those.

That NCSX store looks interesting. I'll have to check it out the next time I import something.

I was thinking of buying Kanji Nouryoku whatever the heck is at the end, since I really need Kanji practice :\ but I've never actually got an imported game before. The price doesnt mean its worth it to me sometimes :\ all though anything Darkstalkers is worth it for me :3

Some games are slightly more expensive than other places (nothing more than $10 difference, from what I've seen), but if it's a US game, then it might be, but considering they're shipping from Hong-Kong, what'd you expect? It's meant to be an import store for any country. Aside from the 3 controllers I ordered from them, every I bought from them was just games. No special editions that had extra stuff like posters & such. From what I heard on the other forum I visit, they'll ship Limited/Special Edition content in a seperate package (i.e the Beatmania games I mentioned above have Limited Editions that come w/ a poster that gets shipped seperatly for some reason).

I've never had any problems w/ them. Stuff gets to me on time, they always send me info after I order & when they ship my order, & they always keep track of my past orders on my account. I've been ordering from them for about 4-ish years & been completely happy w/ their service.
